I had my first recent appointment with my gender therapist. I had met with her once before about 3-4 years ago. Yes, I was dressed en femme as I am most of the time when I go out.

In a pre visit questionnaire I directly indicated the purpose for my visit was to obtain "The Letter." She is a lovely lady and so easy to talk to. We caught up on what was new in my life and then she asked my reasons for wanting to begin transition. I don't know what I said that made things go so right but out of the blue she says "Susan over the years I have counseled hundreds of girls such as you and I've never seen anyone that was any more ready to begin transition than you are.

We talked about some of the next steps and finally she produced a list of physicians. Included in the list were several endos. She recommended one she favored and suggested I make an appointment. After I make the appointment I am to call her and she will write a letter to the endo

It's like I am walking on a cloud. . I had to run a couple of errands on the way home and I moved with a totally different attitude. It's like this one little step made the whole world right. I can't believe how easy the process was. I tried to make the endo appointment when I got home, but the doctor's office was closed on Friday afternoons. Darn!! You know what I'll be doing early Monday morning!

Sorry if I sound a little giddy but I just had to share my excitement with the forum.. Now the work begins. So many things to do, Thanks for listening.

Seems like Instant Karma has come to get you

The instant kind just isn't as good as the kind you have to cook for 20 minutes.

First, congratulations!

Second, as a point of information: in Texas (I'm not sure if this is a per-state thing), it is no longer necessary that an MD have "The Letter" from a therapist before she can prescribe an HRT regimen to a transgender person. In Texas, "The Letter" has not been a requirement for several years now. This is according to my therapist. Also, the MD that's overseeing my HRT did not even mention "The Letter" let alone ask for one.

There are places that will still ask for "The Letter", but it's mostly to cover their asses, IMO.

annaaustintx - it does not have anything to do with the states, it is medical standards of care from WPATH. The current guidelines state :

"Initiation of hormone therapy may be undertaken after a psychosocial assessment has been
conducted and informed consent has been obtained by a qualified health professional, as outlined
in section VII of the SOC. A referral is required from the mental health professional who performed
the assessment, unless the assessment was done by a hormone provider who is also qualified in
this area."

Most medical professionals are going to follow the guidelines (but not all)

Tomorrow is the day. First appointment with my endo is tomorrow at 1:00 pm. I'm still very giddy about how rapidly things are progressing. It's like a dream come true I want to thank all you ladies who have chimed in with comments They mean so much. A new chapter in the book of Susan may be written tomorrow. And Jorja------when I dream I dream CCCCCCs not ZZZZZZs
