Yesterday, I took the first real step in transitioning. I had my first laser appointment. It was a powerful medical laser and hurt like hell with lots of burning hair. But 20 minutes of physical pain is nothing compared to 40+ years of emotional turmoil...

When my wife came home, she handed me a present: A book on finding one's style (for women, obviously) with a very loving inscription. My wife has been amazing; once the shock wore off, she has been loving and supportive. In fact, it's only now that we're finally confronted with my transgender issue in the open that we realize how grateful we are for one another.

I'm reading a book called "She's not There" by Jennifer Finney Boylan. It seems she managed to stay together with her spouse through her transition; that book is giving me hope. I know it won't be easy and the odds are against us sticking together, but I will do my best to make it work.

Dawn, You've got a treasure there. Treat her well.

Best Wishes to BOTH of you on your journey!

Oh my, don't use concrete for your steps! It hurts like all get out when you accidentally fall on them. :)

Who ever coined the phrase, "No pain, no gain" must have been going through permanent hair removal.

Just because you transition does not mean that you cannot stay together with your spouse. If handled correctly, if attitudes are good, if there is a close bond between partners, if.... so many other things fall in place, it is possible. Be the one! The one couple out of thousands that don't go through divorce to survive marriage in tact. Communication is the key.
