This was a really neat experience.

I was at a consignment store for the first time. I walked in wearing a skirt and blouse, nude hose, and flats. I was presenting male otherwise. The clerk in the store talked to me a little. She was very personable. I was feeling pretty good about my outfit, so I asked her for her opinion to make sure I wasn't missing something. She said, "I would lose the hose." I explained that I probably wouldn't crossdress if pantyhose were not involved.

I came back to the store later when I had time to shop more. I tried on a couple outfits. She found me some nice things to try on. Once again, she recommended that I reconsider the hose. Or at least not wear nude hose. She commented on how they are a bit too "Old Lady". I said that if she saw what my legs looked like without hose, she might change her mind. I decided to do something that I had never done before. I took off my pantyhose while I was in the dressing room and came out in my next outfit without the hose. She looked at my legs and her expression changed. Then she said, "I never thought I would ever say this, but I think I like the hose." She went on to say that my legs looked flawless in them. (Leggs Sheer Energy Active Support) She was amazed at how big a difference they made. She and the other clerk started saying that they should reconsider wearing pantyhose. The other clerk said, "I think I should start wearing pantyhose all the time!"

I think I have, somewhat accidentally, made the world a better place!

I have been saying something similar for years here. These non-pantyhose wearing young ladies will one day realize that pantyhose help beautify the legs, cover flaws that build up over the years. Thanks for sharing your story.

Good for you. I've never been able to understand why so many women don't take advantage of all the enhancements available to them. Why on earth would you want to present yourself as any less than the very best you can be?

Pantyhose seemed to be the antidote to all the flaws that i had never noticed until i shaved my legs for the first time. Swings and roundabouts i guess…

I think pantyhose just finish up the look. A must have. Even if your legs look great bare.

I love them everything about them - except how they make my feet slip around in my shoes. Especially heels. Arrgghh!

I have always said that if your bare legs look 100% without hose, why not go for 110% with them. I have very rarely seen any woman's legs that I didn't think would look better with hose than without. They also help the appearance of the feet also.

The number one complaints about pantyhose (that I have heard) are how they bind behind the knees or sag. I think that most of the women that hate hosiery because of this would actually like them if they had spent a little more money on a better pair rather than save a dollar or two by buying a cheap "everyday" pair or dollar store pantyhose.

My favorite part of any conversation about hosiery is when they say "if you like them so much, you wear them and you'll see what I am talking about". Little do they know ;)

I love Pantyhose as much as the next guy, but who am I to blow against the wind? Women have written them off, I saw a women wearing them on the red carpet recently, and she was mocked by the female announcer as looking like a little girl, after all women don't wear them anymore. Well except for old ladies with Varicose veins.

~Joanne~
03-09-2014, 10:37 AM
The only time I think a woman actually looks like a little girl is when she is wearing tights. I have always felt they were made for a really young crowd, not grown women, but a lot of them that say they hate pantyhose will wear tights in a minute. I never understood this because tights have less elastic to them and would sag and bind a lot faster than a good pair of pantyhose will. I think the same can be said about thigh highs also, yet they will wear them also.

I think the announcer was probably part of the crowd that personally hates them so she zeroed in on them just to have something to talk about. I find that a lot of women really do hate them and will bash the look just so they don't make a come back as they have been in recent times, then they may have to wear them themselves ;)

No one should wear whatever makes them feel uncomfortable though but for a lot of women, especially the newer generation, they have never worn a pair a day in their lives to actually make a judgement whether they like them or not. There are a lot of benefits to wearing hose other than smoothing the look of the legs. Grand mothers actually come from a wiser time in this life so maybe they should take note ;)

jjjjoanne proved to the SA's that maybe they have bought into a frame of mind that shouldn't exist. Of coarse though, this is just my opinion ;)

Well, as one ages the imperfections of life become more pronounced. My teenage granddaughter has terrific looking skin; face, legs, etc. Me? Pale, veins, etc. The same can be said of GG's my age (65+). Whether it be pantyhose or thigh high stockings (my preference) of a good quality it does wonders for one's legs, especially if you have the pale complexion of a northern European.

Next time go in wearing the knee highs that your grandma used to wear, lol. Once an SA told me my pantyhose were wrinkled… but I wasn't wearing any! OK, that was an old Rodney Dangerfield joke.

Bare legs kind of require some fake tan stuff.

Young celebs like Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and Katy Perry are making nude pantyhose more mainstream, I think. Fashion is like a pendulum; it will swing back to hose for a decade or two and we crossdressers can hopefully revel in all sorts of advertisements and TV commercials again!

Something most seem to forget is that pantyhose are simply a TOOL. One of many. Like any tool, they have their advantages and disadvantages. I agree that "nothing beats a great pair of legs" but see no reason to cover legs that look great without them. Just like makeup... Some ladies are already stunning w/o makeup. Pantyhose ARE a form of makeup. They just happen to feel good and support pantyhose offer additional benefits even if worn under clothing.

I think very few here realize how long Mantyhose have been around and/or just what a huge market there is for them? I doubt that very few here would wear them...

Pantyhose and/or heels allow many/most CDers to VISUALLY come closer to emulating FEmale legs. The easiest FEmale bodypart by far a man to "pull off". Little wonder they are the most popular CDing item by far and likely the item most started with.

Actually, no. This may have been true once, but 21st cent. technology has produced nude sheers that look and feel great without looking dowdy or old-ladyish. Just like others comments about women's attitudes about hosiery is based on hosiery of the past, so is this one. Try the new Hue sheers in 'natural' and you'll understand - not your grandmothers' hose!

Candice, you have gorgeous legs and certainly don't need hose to make them look good. But if I recall, you are either already living as a woman or are transitioning to live as one. So for you, the illicit thrill is likely gone, this is just who you are. I might feel the same way if I were in your shoes (pun intended). But for us plain old crossdressers, pantyhose, thigh highs or stockings enhance the feminine experience greatly. I'm with Wildaboutheels on this one.

You do look great, though, and I still love those shoes! Too bad they don't make them anymore!

Take care

I know what you mean, Johanne! My legs are a mass of scars from the knee down. I also have a lot of ugly spots caused by a medication I was on for a while. But pantyhose, even very sheer ones, make my legs look perfect. I'm definitely a "pantyhose for life" girl.

For me getting the right fit determines whether or not I like a pair of hose. If they don't fit right I am constantly fighting with them rolling at the top or they are sagging down along the legs. When they do fit right you can forget you are wearing them.

Let s all go to the Hanes store. Choice of stay ups, pantyhose, and all the colors possible. I love the stay ups. The trouble is sometimes they don't stay up unless your legs are shaved. Oh, great reason shave the legs. And yes, nothing beats a great pair of legs, maybe the great feeling.

Christen

If you've great legs, go bare for sure. But I find that sheer matt hose just smooth my legs out and they look better. But you can't go too high a denier and you've got to get the right shade for your skin. I love Levante Eclipse Natural as an everyday choice.
And yeah it's funny, I love wearing tights, my wife hates wearing them, but I do spend more on a pair that she tends to. I've not really been able to have this discussion with her, yet.
And ... fashion magazines are saying wearing nude hoisery is now very fashionable .. blame Kate Middleton.

I always wear hose. I work in a professional environment, and women who don't wear hose, look less professional, I also like wearing them so that my legs dont rub together. But... Those are just curvy girl problems.

I prefer hose though pretty much always. Unless you are going out and trying to look "sexy" then go ahead and wear hose.

I prefer stockings myself, I got that advice from a GG once. It was in an old thread on an Everquest message board, one of the women on there said "Pennihose is da debbil" and posted a complaint about pantyhose (we talked about everything on that board), and this other young lady responded that instead of pantyhose, get a set of garters and buy stockings, you'll never go back. I'm sure she didn't mean "me" as well but I tried it and I've loved stockings ever since.

In my life, I've only seen a couple of women who had legs that I honestly thought they looked awesome without some sort of hose, and almost everyone else who thinks their legs look ok are really deluding themselves (Candice? You're in the "awesome looking legs" group, which is very small - you do have awesome legs). To me, hose is more than just covering flaws, it's sort of a finishing touch. It's like waxing a Ferrari after washing it. Sure, washing it is fine but if you want that Italian Pony to really gleam you wax it - the finishing touch. It's also professional looking, in my humble opinion.

Anyway, my two copper's worth. My inbox is asbestos lined, so flame away.

I love wearing pantyhose , I love the look and the feel of them on my shaved legs , I also like touching my own hosiery whilst in a skirt , I also often wear a corselette and vintage nylons over the pantyhose . I don't feel dressed unless I at least have pantyhose on , and on the subject of them making you look like a mature lady , I actually seek that look and would love to be seen as such , I adore that mature woman style from the double layer nylon nightgown to the classic nylon blouse and skirt and medium heels , I aspire to be an older woman .

Unless you are going out and trying to look "sexy" then go ahead and wear hose.

Actually you can look sexy in hose too. Sexiness is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I like hosiery, whether it's pantyhose, stockings, or tights, and yes they do give your legs a finished look, and it's very professional to wear them.

In SoCal, I've seen plenty of women wearing black hosiery in the past few months, all the way from very sheer to very opaque, even 80 to 90 degree weather. Yes, we've had an abundance of 80 degree or warmer days this winter, which is unusually warm for this time of year, but it proves that hosiery can be warn in warm weather, even black hosiery. Although it's rare, I've seen women wear black hosiery in 100 degree heat. I knew a woman who wore black hosiery to work all 12 months of the year, and another woman who wore nude hosiery to work all 12 months of the year.

I personally don't judge you for what you wear, I believe you have to freedom to wear what you want. Some of us like hosiery, and some of us hate it. Our preferences do not make us a success or fail at being a cross-dresser, and our preferences do not make us a success or fail at being trans. My motto is be true to yourself, and that includes whether or not you choose to wear hose.

My wife's sister from out of town was recently visiting us and we had a function we were going to that evening. As I was going out for errands my wife asked me to get her a pair of black Silk Reflections pantyhose.

Her sister replied "PANTYHOSE?! Nobody does pantyhose anymore" My wife said, "Trust me sis, if you want to look complete, you need to wear pantyhose." So I wound up stopping at Macy's and getting two pair.

I keep my legs tanned most the time too(yes I know but skin cancer at my age is not my worry...) In the winter I have been "forced" to wear hose because it has been freaky' cold this year. Last year I don't think I wore any at all. This year leggings because suddenly I find many sweater dresses just a titch short. But over all I don't wear any hose unless I am planning "something" (which ain't happening recently). I get people feeling my thighs frequently and saying "You aren't wearing hose?"

Ah, pantyhose - if you don't love it, you must not be a CD! :bs:

Interesting that the people who think that legs must empirically look better with hose are the ones with a bit of a fetishistic attachment to it, eh?

If hose is the be--all, end-all of look-completion - why isn't it used to hide imperfections in other parts of the body? Why aren't more women wearing armyhose, or handyhose?

Might I suggest that the reason certain people are inclined to find pantyhosed legs so wonderful, is not so much a devotion to a perfect pair of legs, but instead an attraction to what pantyhosed legs look (feel/sound) like?

Don't take my questions with too much sensitivity - this is just a question of interest to me. I like pantyhose/nylons/stockings. I like the way they feel. I go absolutely weak in the knees at the site of a great pair of legs in hose.

Buuuut - I think of the days when hose and crossdressing were inextricably linked as sort of my junior scout days of dressing. I was just wearing hose because I could. I mean, under jeans - why?

Today, I think of hose as just a part of a wider palette of options. Legs can look fine bare, or in hose, or in tights, or in leggings - there isn't just one solution. What I'm attracted to are the legs, not just the clothing on them.

Lorileah

Gemina you have a point. I think one of the first things boys notice (at least when I was growing up) was the pantyhose...it was a signal that the girl was reaching the age of...well being datable. The bra thing wasn't s obvious until breasts were at a certain size, but the pantyhose were with any skirt. Now fast forward to the first date and your GF wanted to look her best. Pantyhose were required and if you got to second or third base...well you remember that feeling. It very well could become a part of a young man's fetish. In my generation women wore hose if they wore a dress or skirt even in summer. Certain actresses wore them with cutoffs (hello Mary Ann and Daisy) and when you are 13 you want those women. My wife wore pantyhose for the first 10 years we were together but ditched them for knee hi's and slacks (sort of a fake pantyhose look in slacks). My GF rarely wore them except to work or a special function. She is why I don't now. She had tons of influence on me as far as fashion and being a woman.

Pantyhose was the root of my dressing as a child. I would not wear anything without the foundation of hosiery. Just did not feel right. All that ended the first time I shaved my legs. Some of my best experiences out and about have been hoseless. Now I won't wear them unless called for. And it's mostly opaque tights in the winter now. Spring, summer I would not even think to ear them out.
And yes, Candice you have unbelievable legs, what kind of workout do you put them thru to keep them so taught?

Ria Lynn
03-13-2014, 04:04 PM
The biggest reasons why I don't wear hose are my cats, my nails, and my two year old. I ALWAYS end up with a run somehow. I do sort of need them though, I have dark hair and pale skin so even if I've just shaved it still looks like I have stubble. I've done cheap stockings before and it was hit and miss, hopefully now that my H is really diving into CDing it'll be easier to talk him into letting me get better quality stockings and a good garter belt. I'm not talking great stockings since I doubt they'll go long without getting a run, but ones that fit and look a bit better would be nice.

I have noticed women both young and old wearing panty hose with skirts and dresses over the past year or so. It appears that panty hose have become a fashion accessory instead of a mandatory covering for modesty. From my point of view some of the patterned hose look really awesome and add a dimension to an otherwise flat look.

As with some other posters, I am not in a position to shave so a nice pair of opaque stockings hide my hairy legs.

I normally love wearing pantyhose, and especially the soft, silky feeling against my legs, and the way that type of nylon hose seems to caress them.

That said, I had occasion to be en femme for 4 days in a row recently when my wife was out of town, and I wore pantyhose every day while I was out and about. To be honest, after a while the thrill of it wore off, and I think I understand now why GG's aren't as enraptured by pantyhose as most of us CDers are. Over time, the "caressing" feeling gave way to a sensation similar to one of my legs being encased in a sausage skin - and in much the same way as GG's have often described it.

I'm not suggesting that I am now a convert to the barelegged look - far from it. While that may still go well with a sun dress, shorts, or capris, to me, pantyhose remain a "must" in a professional setting, or to provide a more polished look when one is dressed up for a special occasion. :daydreaming:

All I am saying is that I am no longer worshipping unquestioningly at the altar of pantyhose the way I used to...

I'm not a big fan of pantyhose exactly, mainly because I'm not a big fan of the 'panty' part of them but I do enjoy wearing thigh highs pretty much all the time both to make my legs look great and the feeling of them. I may be odd in this but it's how I feel about it. To each their own though.

Pantyhose have been the only thing I ever tried out (until recently when start accepting myself for who I am). Being a kid, pantyhose were the only thing somehow available to me, taking them from the back of my moms drawers, making sure she wouldn't miss them wondering where they might have gone to.
I like the way they make your legs look smoother, more flawless, and I like the feel of it, although, as stated by others, you get used to it over time. I own a few pair now, different colours and denier, but love to have more.

All I can say is my legs never look better bare. Hose always makes them look better, evens out the flesh tones and smooths out imperfections. As long as they're not super thick, and have a nice finish to them, they don't look gramma-like.

Pantyhose is what started it all off for me as well and so I LOVE them and must wear them.

I can, however, see why most women don't wear them as they are quite an expensive addition and are easily worn down or have runs.

For me wearing pantyhose is a must as well as something that I love to wear. Not only are they the perfect finish to any outfit (and I totally get the bare legs argument) but, I feel so much more femme while wearing them.

As a "girl" of the 1950's-1960's I love hose, especially pantyhose, which became (somewhat) popular during the late 1960's. I wear hose well over 90% of the time, mainly pantyhose, nude, black, or red. The young women of today will someday regret that in there youth that they by-passed the hose opportunity and the benefits from indulging in this activity. Hose IMO is so feminine and alluring.

I can attest to the value of a nice pair of hose or stockings. My legs are full of scars and a multitude of other unsightly " battle wounds " and even the sheerest of hose diminish the appearance of them. I RARELY go public without nylons.

Yea, my crossdressing began with a pair of stockings I got from my friend's and thus pantyhose is a must for my CDing.
I'm seriously addicted to pantyhose and a day scarcely passes without wearing a pair.
Whether in drab mode or en femme, I always wear a pair under pants or short skirt.
I LOVE the sensation I feel when I rub my pantyhosed legs each other in short skirt and stiletto heels.
Watching my silky-smooth, hairless and flawless legs in pantyhose reflected in the mirror makes me feel so sensuous!

pantyhose all the way..thats where i started..well the tights that mum put on me..but the feeling of pantyhose..now when i see a girl wearing them..i know what shes feeling ..however some are better than others..different brands ive tried have no stimulation or feel..the silky voodoo brand are wonderful but expensive..wearing 2 pair is wonderful but a science to get the 2 pairs that work..the friction of the way they slide across each other can be felt more all over the leg..i have cheapie k mart 5 pack hose on..beige with black over top..they last a week and feel reasonably well.and with my boots rubbing up against them..luckily i,m not very hairy and i must say my legs are my best feature

Four pages of posts on why crossdressers and women should wear pantyhose!

Most GGs don't wear pantyhose unless they are otherwise "dressed up". That is, going out to dinner with a husband or date, going to a night club, or going to work in an office where women are expected to "dress up". Women who work in factories, stores (other than women's clothing stores), law enforcement, the military, etc. seldom wear pantyhose to work.

As crossdressers, we may feel that wearing pantyhose makes us more of a woman. A genetic woman wakes up every day knowing she is a woman. She doesn't need special clothing to make her feel like a woman.

If you're dressing to "pass" or "blend", pantyhose should be worn at appropriate times and to appropriate places. Doing otherwise will call unwanted attention to yourself.

When I was a teenager, I would wear black/barely black pantyhose all the time

Now I am a bit (!) older, I tend to favour shades which are closer to my actual skin colouring - nude, honey, tan etc

I accepted my desire to wear pantyhose long before I even acknowledged my desire to dress, so pantyhose are a staple for me. I have never understood all the complaints about pantyhose. If you buy the right size they feel great and you match them to your outfit it can only compliment your look.

I can't hack bear feet. Therefore I need some kind of of something... Occasionally in the summer I may opt for those little nylon footie things, but it's mostly pantyhose (or knee highs with slacks) for me!

Wearing pantyhose is one of lifes greatest pleasures , my favourites are genreally sheer to the waist , Tan

After a nice hot bath , I moisturise my legs and step into the gorgeous nylon , I never tired of this thrill and love seeing them over a nice pair of lace or cotton , pink white , or powder blue knickers / panties

The weather is quite cool now , and cold at night , wearing them in bed , snuggling up and feeling my soft nylon covered legs , brings me enormous pleasure and emotional comfort
Still plenty of women in Australia wearing pantyhose , and even more do in the UK , its America , where GGS seem to have ditched them mostly , very sad , I always think a Lady does not look properly dressed without them , especially for a day in the Office

I have only started crossdressing for a few months. A pair of pantyhose was one of the first things I bought. They were the L'eggs Sheer Energy Medium Support Leg. They were the most awesome thing until I found tights, especially Spanx Star Power high-waisted shaping tights.

I hate bare feet, but I was lazy with my cleaning, so I have gone out lately without any hosiery on. However, I had ordered SIX pairs of the Spanx tights from Macy's, and they arrived yesterday, so I am able to wear them again!

My own attitude towards pantyhose is starting to resemble a GG's. For cooler weather, or more "dressy" outfits, I'll definitely wear them (or tights, if it's on the chilly side). But in summer, under more "casual" outfits, I'll abandon them as quickly as a GG, and I'll just give my legs a good dose of Aveeno lotion before dressing. (Aveeno with SPF 15, if it's during the day!) There's something to be said for being able to feel the wind blow your skirt against your bare legs; I find it invigorating! Going bare-legged also allows me to wear sandals instead of full-on shoes, if I wish...and I have some cute sandals!

^.^

I need to get a few new pairs of them, and I usually wear 2x or 3x control tops,
usually in a nude color, but I would like to get some white ones to go along with
a sky-blue skirt I have.

Besides absolutely loving the feel of the nylon fabric against my legs, there are
a couple of health-related reasons for wearing them. First, my legs have taken
a beating over the past few years, since I ride a bike ... with all sorts of wrecks
and such, parts of my legs look like a war zone, so pantyhose tend to drown out
the blemishes somewhat.

More importantly, they are somewhat tight against the legs, which helps in circulation.
I actually started wearing nylons before cross-dressing, and one of the reasons is to
boost the circulation in my legs, especially since my job is at a computer desk.

Currently, I don't wear hose very often, but I may very well get back into them.

I love the feel of pantyhose and stocking, but in the summer it's way too hot for that. I spend May getting myself tan for the summer so my legs will look nice without hose. Still not 100% happy with the way they look, but it sure is cooler. If I opt for the hose in summer I will usually wear stockings and a garter belt because it's much cooler.

I really like lace top thigh highs with the rubber grip.Haven't ever tried pantyhose. No cheapies though and Victoria's secret are my favorites from the nineties. I do like my bare look somewhat as my legs are slender and foot size 10 makes it easy to find heels. Stockings are V.S. black and nude M from the nineties.

missVS,
You go girl. I adore your very sexy look.

Wearing pantyhose is a delight. Young woman today, IMO, don't know what they are missing by not wearing this amazing garment. As a great fashion fan of 1950's female garb I still favor the 1960s, ot later, pantyhose. But In the 1950's I did love to wear my mothers stockings.

I like to see all those who wear panty hose but I hate panty hose but hate bare legs. I only wear lace top thigh highs, couple of reasons but main one love the freedom with them, if I wear a short dress or skirt I have had the tops show depending on how I sit, or squat down when getting something off a low shelf.

I'm a pantyhose addict. Can't stand bare legs. Everyone knows my male side loves pantyhose and I've had a lot of women ask me why. Leg enhancement, imperfection tone down and over all evenness of tone. And then I throw in the fact that they'll get more looks. ;-)
I can't dress without pantyhose.

The consensus I've heard from women is that pantyhose are itchy and uncomfortable. The ones I've heard that from, I glance at the hose on their legs and notice they wear the cheap department/drug store variety (uneven color, lots of snags). Those kinds of pantyhose really do itch, if that's all they wear then I see why its not liked. I wish I could have recommended quality pantyhose to those ladies but that would have outed me ;)

There are some ladies who like to wear it. I overheard some at work talking about what brands they like at the department store -- and they were younger women too!

For me, pantyhose is the one item I wear with all my outfits. I simply love how they feel on my shaved legs and how they hide blemishes.

I love the way that they look and feel. I love to rub my hands over my pantyhose/tights-clad legs (especially just after shaving). I almost get turned on. I have only had 2 pairs of stockings. My first pair was a joke. I got the Sofia Vergara ones from Kmart. The first one went on fine. The second one ripped almost as soon as I tried it. So, I was without until I found some On the Go from Walmart. They were awesome. I just love pantyhose/tights better, so I hardly ever wear my stockings.

like most of us here, pantyhose was my first ‘discovery’ and is still my first love. i wear hose or thigh-highs regularly in the cooler months. hard to resist caressing one’s legs when smooth as silk skin is sheathed in shiny nylon. i have been enjoying them for a long time now and, unlike some ggs who complain about hose or only wear them for special occasions, i still get a thrill from them. just feels right, feels feminine and sensual.
i am glad to read hose might be making a coming-back. thank you kate... hose, heels, blouse, bra and skirt: the professional look i aspire to!

Regarding the pantyhose... I primarily go for the feeling I guess ? Because for the aesthetic on cloth-choosing I definitely is a newbie...

So so far I was loving for the feelings. But I think girls exhibit much more sex appealing after they out on those pantyhose.

Pantyhose were the second thing I ever tried on. A dress being the first. I just wanted my legs to look like the cheerleaders in football games. It turned out I liked the feel of them, too.

Now, I rarely wear pantyhose, it's always tights for me. They fit better and I like the feel of them more.

Still, I only go out in a skirt without hosiery if it's really hot and I am wearing a long skirt.

that's pretty damn cool. It's always a weird feeling when an actual girl takes advice from us as crossdressers. kinda makes you feel good about it. personally i kind of agree with the person at the shop. i can't stand the look of pantyhose, but maybe that's because I seem to be a lot younger than most people here. Good for you. I've never been able to understand why so many women don't take advantage of all the enhancements available to them. Why on earth would you want to present yourself as any less than the very best you can be?

My wife tells me that she does not wear skirts because it is a lot of needless work and expense and discomfort. When worn regularly and often, the cost can add up. (It is expensive enough for us occasional dressers.). Hose can make hot or cold weather seem more so. Heels can hurt a lot quicker if one is not accustomed to them or overweight. There are limits on behavior...knees together, be careful ascending stairs, beware of windy days, etc. Even makeup and jewelry and hair styling is different for many GGs when wearing hose. They will do it if the special occasion warrants, but being a beauty every day can get tiresome. If there is one thing that most women in American society do not need these days, it is more work. So they cut corners in the "enhancements" department.

I understand her point perhaps better than she realizes.

Look at my screen name - that should tell you how I feel. I do not dress without pantyhose/sheer tights or opaque tights (rare) - I even underdress with at least knee-highs when wearing pants as male. I wouldn't consider dressing without and love the look of ALL legs wearing vs. bare.

I was at Hooters last night. Two of the waitresses (who were roommates and didn't have any customers at the time) sat down at my table. One or both of them complained about wearing pantyhose. One of them called them "itchy-hose". I just smiled. I wanted to say something about it, but I didn't want to out myself (although in boy mode).

I know that, I was just having fun because your two mutually exclusive comments seemed to flow from one another.

L'eggs Sheer Energy Pantyhose were the first women's garment I ever slipped onto my 11 yro body. WOW! I had always loved them and they have been a part of me since then. My wife has a huge pantyhose fetish too, wears them everyday, and when i'm dressed and we role play, she insists that I wear them too- with everything else of course. I can't stand looking at lazy women who make up their face but leave their legs bare. Looks terrible. I don't dress without them. Sometimes I will wear 2 pair or black stockings over suntan pantyhose, so sexy! Shave your legs guys. If you don't you will never know how good they really feel and look. And sex, cut the cotton panel out with your SO and have fun. They make the lady and feel incredible rubbing against each other. WE LOVE PANTYHOSE!!!! :)

I prefer to wear dresses and skirts because they are more comfortable. Hoes are anything but comfortable and the way they dig into my belly fat is anything but attractive, nope, it's tights or bare for me. That being said if I were a carear woman I suppose I'd wear black hoes on occasion with a skirt just to mix it up but I'd be pealing them off as soon as I got home!

Pantyhose, Stockings, Tights are all must have items in my wardrobe. Black sheer or nude are the only colours for me. I do have a pair of fishnet stay ups but they don't have that electrifying feel of nylons, I can take them or leave them.
There is nothing quite like the look of nylons with heels nor the silken feel on my legs and the sensation of a skirt swishing past. I'm getting giddy just thinking about it.

Hose definitely finish an outfit. Not every outfit mind you. I do believe it is climate dependent. If it is hot and humid, you shouldn't and also setting; casual vs. business vs. formal. Wearing pantyhose is an exhilarating experience for me. When putting on my pantyhose, I'll first start by gathering up one leg of pantyhose. I'll then dip my foot slowly into the receiving leg and gently tug upward and repeat until my lower half is sensually covered. This process, I know is routine however, I simply enjoy the tantalizing sensation of my skin disappearing underneath the 15dn material that will ultimately be the foundation of my transformation.

I hate that pantyhose is thought of as too young and tights are thought of as too young. When I wear a dress, I usually go with tights as either a complement to the dress or to add a little fun to the outfit. I think they look and feel great. I have collected all the colors of the rainbow in an effort to coordinate with any outfits I have. I try to dress in a style that makes me feel good although I may not blend well if I were trying to pass out in public.

I'm 63 and I've worn pantyhose most of my life, even when en drabbe. I got rid of my crew socks many years ago and I've kept my legs shaved since the mid-Seventies. Not many people say anything about them at all. And when they do it's most likely a sibling. I look at this partly as a "my generation" thing; the females I grew up with all wore sheer nylons and I wanted to look female. Now it's a matter of comfort because I've gotten so used to them that I just don't feel like myself without them.

As far as their popularity among women, I see a minority of them wearing pantyhose here in the DC area -- but every day. I get the idea that wearing sheers is an art that requires lots of practice. It appears that too many women only grab a pair from the drugstore at the last minute for special occasions or a job interview. They got something cheap that's prone to snags, a shade that's too far from their skin color, and probably the wrong size. They put them on wrong, took them off wrong and then probably threw them in a drawer unwashed.

What would change this? Well, we saw a little change when Kate Middleton made a point of wearing them in public all the time. It appears that many women want to mimic the rich and the powerful. But that won't be enough. When sheers with short dresses became popular in the Twenties, they were a form of rebellion. I think it will take the same thing to bring them back. If you're interested, I recommend replying on websites pseudonymously as I sometimes do when some woman complains about wearing pantyhose. My reply goes something like this;

Now I am the rebel because I love pantyhose and wear them all the time. I know from experience that there is nothing more comfortable to wear or that makes your legs look better. And yes, I even wear them in summer.

Thigh-highs, or (seamed) stockings polish off the thrill of being dressed.

OK - here is a stupid question, which will have all my American sisters howling with amusement

What is the difference between 'pantyhose' and 'tights'?

In England, all hosiery (other than stockings and hold-up's) are classed as being 'tights'. We do not have 'pantyhose'!

I think it's down to the sheerness. If you can mostly see through it, it's pantyhose; if not, it's tights.

Hosiery makes all the difference in the world. I just hope GG's get the hint and start wearing them again, just like the 70s and 80s.

I wear pantyhose because I LIKE TO!!!!! I also wear them because they help when slipping into a pair of pants that are "a shade to tight" and also when I am wearing my heels. Like the American Express ad says " Never leave home without them"

Hey, you never know til you try... and it's worth revisiting old assumptions once in a while, but i totally agree with Johanne, hose make my legs look better. The male leg needs a little help, IMO, no matter how well it is shaved. Hose softens some of the bumps and bends. My wife sometimes questions me and how i can wear pantyhose so much (she would never wear them were it not de rigueur for dressier clothes.

Pantyhose (and to a lesser degree, (but still fun) thigh highs and traditional stockings) feel great on smooth legs, and since most women will never understand what hairy legs really feel like they might have some trouble understanding the novelty and the simple magnitude of the difference shaved legs feel like to a guy.

They help support the leg, many athletes and cyclists use support hose and tights for longer rides, I know it does help my legs feel better, and it's a bit of fun as well to add to the enjoyment of the ride. With cooler weather, I need to spend some time re familiarizing myself with the cool weather cycling gear, but an extra pair of opaque tights can add a good extra 5° F of cool weather tolerance to my legs, for less than $10. If you've checked out any cycling, or even generic exercise clothing gear prices lately, you know that is a heck of a bargain.

So for casual looks, yeah, it might be worth checking to see if the hose-less look might be a viable alternative, or perhaps a more flattering, complementary or neutral shade of hose... but for dressier looks, nothing beats a bit of shimmery lotion on a smoothly shaved leg, and sheer shiny or glossy hose clinging oh so relentlessly to those legs. Models do it, advertisements flaunt it.

Three cheers and fanfare for pantyhose!

Yeah for pantyhose!

If you buy the proper size and quality they are the most comfortable item of clothing I've ever worn. I wear pantyhose daily and love the constant reminder as I walk around the office as the silky nylon caresses my smooth shaved legs. I would not feel dressed without them.

Funny timing... Wife and I are selling our house (sold, actually - close on Friday) but have already moved. I went over this morning to vacuum one last time, and I couldn't resist the chance to do it fully dressed despite having a bit of stubble. I got a bit wound up and decided to stop in at Walgreens and pick up a couple more pairs of pantyhose. As I was checking out, the SA commented "Those are some expensive pantyhose.."

Without missing a beat, I said "Yeah, but they're worth every penny."

What is the difference between 'pantyhose' and 'tights'?

In England, all hosiery (other than stockings and hold-up's) are classed as being 'tights'. We do not have 'pantyhose'!

Yes, but when we North Americans go out shopping to purchase our "pantyhose", unlike you Brits we don't have to put petrol into our saloon car first, check to make sure we have enough room left in the boot to transport all our planned purchases, clean the grime off our windscreen, check under the bonnet to ensure that we don't need to top up the motor oil, and pray that we don't get a flat tyre on the way.

But if we do, some kind lorry driver who was following close behind is bound to stop and assist us, as long as long as we didn't make him cross enough to holler "Bloody H*ll" at us for inadvertently cutting him off while traversing the roundabout on our way to the local pub for a pint and some bangers and mash. ;)

There's just something about covering bare legs and feet with the sheer material, and slipping your feet inside smooth, sexy heels. Then there's the part about covering the rest of the lower body as well; everything is so smooth, and hidden under a skirt.

Also, from growing up in the 'days of yore', when women wearing pantyhose were everywhere. The younger people these days don't know what that's like, at least in the US. It had a huge influence on the upcoming male population, growing up through adolescence, and seeing attractive women wearing 'nylons', as they were most often called.

OK, I agree, 'pantyhose' and 'hose' are strange names for that, when you start to think about it. However, those names are ingrained in lots and lots of people to mean a certain thing...and that's not likely to change. I think I like 'tights' better myself, and if I was to rename them, I think I'd go with that name. It just seems like a more appropriate name. You know, something 'tight', and close to the skin. But, like I said, not likely to change the usage of the word 'pantyhose' in a heck of a lot of people.

Very clever Leslie but I very much doubt our lorry driver would 'holler' on this side of the pond. He would undoubtedly 'cry out loudly'. 😆

We do say tights here but it wasn't always so. My Father worked in a hosiery factory, there's a job for a hose/tights fan, and when tights arrived. They were labelled as panty hose on the packets. Tights took over at some point.

Pantyhose...tights - don't really mind which they are called - they are a delicious adornment to any pair of legs. I have relatively recently come back to wearing pantyhose after many years of only wearing stockings or hold-ups (thigh highs to our American colleagues) and I have to say I am enjoying them - especially without panties ;)

My own view, albeit (slightly!!!!!) biased, is that even the best legs in the world look better properly dressed in sheer nylon. It somehow enhances those gentle curves and just adds that finishing touch to any outfit, the choice of colours is there to work with whatever you are wearing.

In my case it also hides those veins that are beginning to show up all too clearly; Michelle would NEVER go out without hosiery of some sort and Stephen has then under his trousers EVERY day (glossy black pantyhose today....mmmm)

I'm glad that many women will wear pantyhose quite willingly as long as we agree to call them tights. The pantyhose doomsayers need to understand that leggs and Hanes are still making them so somebody beside the Cd community must be buying them.

pantyhose or whatever one wishes to call them are an essential part of my daily dressing. it was just crossdressing at first. the feeling of hosiery against freshly shaved legs was, and still, is heaven. then came the polished toes and i was happy for a long time underdressing and feeling girly like this. but as i progressed, shoes and skirts became (a private part) of that world too.

now that i am beyond crossdressing, when i want to feel sexy, i wear thigh-highs for obvious reasons but when i just want to dress like a woman, i revert back to simple hose. don’t know why but the feeling of being covered from waist to (red) toe in nude or tan nylon and slipping into 3” heels feels very womanly to me. it becomes my private world and no one can enter.

I was thinking of this topic this week. Funny thing happened along the way, as I enter my 4th month of transition and HRT, I could care less about 'hose. Sure I love tights for fashion colors, but I've lost all interest in 'hose over time.

Don't know how this happened! I was the biggest fan girl for Sheer Reflections Barely There. Season's Change?

As others (including the OP) have said, without pantyhose I may never have ever crossdressed. Pantyhose were and still are the catalyst that drives me to dress. I've tried to be a 'modern gurl' a few times, but just the feeling of squeezing my bare feet into a pair of pumps just doesn't feel right to me. It's almost like it's 'unnatural' to wear pumps or heels without hosiery. (LOL, as if the whole idea of a man wearing hose is 'natural').

I have been wearing pantyhose since I was 13, and in the past 40 years I have never grown tired of having them on my legs, nor on the legs of any woman. I miss those days of the 70's and 80's, when hosiery was an accessory for every outfit. They make every outfit look complete and more polished, IMO.

It's interesting to consider that the German word for "pants" or trousers is "die Hose" (feminine word/declension)...so all German men are wearing hose, even when their tanks are rolling through other countries. :o (Panties are das Höschen - neuter, but when did anyone claim that the German language was entirely logical? Unlike English, gender-based, but not logical)

Anyway, I prefer stay-ups or thigh highs. I find it difficult to pull up pantyhose without the legs getting twisted, and thus less comfortable, and then there's the dreaded pulling down or sagging in the crotch area. Also, if you get a run in one leg, the entire garment must be discarded. I can understand why the GGs really don't like them that much. You don't get those problems with thigh highs - and the answer to their tendency to slip down is a product called: "It Stays." And, with It Stays, they do, indeed, stay in place.

All that said, I suspect that the CD community is the current last bastian of hosiery sales. We're the true believers, holding the fort until hosiery returns as a fashion necessity - and trust me, it will.

Wearing sheer tights or opaques is a major part of my dressing , just love the sound and feel of them. Even freshly shaven , my tights cover imperfections and smooth everything out. First things I put on and last things I take off.
