I will start with my gp to see if he will handle my blood work and further needs for hormones. I was curious though is it better to seek a endo since they specialize in this stuff? I do understand to ask how much experience they have and that needs to help make my descion but still some thoughts would be great. I hate cold calling Dr's to see what they will handle.

As your GP to refer you to an endo, but make it clear you want an endo experienced with transexuals. No all endos have experience with gender transition.

Ask your therapist who is the most experienced in the area.

The non-profits sometimes also keep lists if you don't get anything from your therapist. I got a list of the four most common from my local pride center and was able to pick one out in the same health care system as my general practitioner. That should help him feel better about my care as he can immediately look up any notes, lab results, and prescriptions.

The best doc is one who has experience with TS patients. Endo is the "right specialist", but a regular GP with experience would be better than an Endo without such patients in the past. It might even be an Ob-Gyn ! After all, they are very familiar with the landscape and hormone issues ;)
