I didn't fall over dead form embarrassment and my Dr. never flinched! I had a Dr. appointment this morning. A follow up after a stress test and being place on BP meds. I`ll try and make this short. So, he came in, chatted a bit, checked ,y BP, listened to my heart, lungs, the usual. Mind you, I am completely shaved about the waist(doesn't bother me) but am letting the leg hair grow for the coming warmer weather. Doc then asked me to lie down on the table so he could check out the abdominal area. I never expected him to reach under my pant leg to check the pulse in both legs! :eek: Scared the s!@# out of me as I have only 2 weeks growth on the legs. As he finished the exam, he never even flinched or anything remotely close to suspecting anything. :whew!: SO, with that, as they say, it really is no big deal. :D

Doctors have been instructed not to mention it or say anything...as long as there are at least 14 days growth. It's right there in THE Crossdresser's Handbook. I'd say great timing and/or great Luck on your part.

Seriously, shaved bodies are a NON issue for medical professionals, the same as they are for "furry" folks. An hour spent on any park bench in Florida at almost any time of the year will easily verify this. Also check out any gym and you are likely to find at least 10 % of the men [if not higher] shaved somewhere.

As an aside, we Humans are slowly but surely losing our body hair...

Simply because we no longer need it.

And armpit and pubic hair?

This is absolutely a non issue. One of my local television stations during the local news hour gives the results of surveys on numerous topics. Not too long ago the survey dealt with body hair. The results of the survey indicated the majority of women prefer their male partners to be HAIRLESS. You're in vogue. Look at male models! Look a the movies and television. There must be some code against body hair. Frankly, if I were you, I'd make sure my body reflected either hair or hairless ALL over. Being "two toned" will draw more attention than being hairless all over.

Well, doctors have not seen me hairless apart for the time they asked me to shave for an operation I was having. That's not an issue for me though. I would be embarrassed if i was under dressing!

I think body hair went out with wool underwear. It is pretty common for males to shave more than just their faces. I would bet if you took a poll on 100 regular guys a good percent shave their body more than they do their faces.

I've read this from others here... and while I respect your right to have hairy legs in the summer, I'm bit confused as to any rationale behind this.

Let me explain... on the basis that presumably no-one would see them in the winter when they are shaved, when they pop out in the summer, or spring like a couple of groundhogs, who would be any the wiser that they didn't look shaved naturally...?? And then with a bit of a tan, wouldn't they just look natural...? Or do you have neighbours or family that keep photographic records of your legs from year to year, a bit like tracking the shrinking arctic ice cap... ? Actually, you could blame the hair loss on a diminishing ozone layer... Or just 'girl up', keep shaving and get on with it.. :D

Most medical personnel concentrate on more important issues, but may ask you "if there is anything you would like to discuss". That could be your opening, if you care to come out about enjoying your feminine side. As for male body shaving, a new campaign for Gillette Razors for guys "body sculpting" has hit the market. IMO it is the same style/type of razor that gals have been using - only NOT pink! Enjoy.

I think the only person that notices anything different is our own fears. We are so worried, that what we know "should" be there is not there or modified and it is screaming... "OMG HE CROSSDRESSES! OMG :eek::raisedeyebrow::wn::wn:"

When you work with the human bodies, you see all the variances, it all becomes pass se. It is like when I worked as a Bank Teller way back in the day, at first handling the money was " serious". While it certainly is, you become professional and treat the money as a tool of the trade.

I am not saying we as patients are not important, but the variances of our bodies are not anything significant to write an article for the New England Journal of Medicine.

Heh...I've been shaving/nairing legs, pits, and chest (and occasionally arms and backwaxing) for years even before I'd been CDing
Never had anything mentioned by my doc... (not even a compliment either by the nurse...dangit :))
It's really a non-issue to be honest.

I am not sure why but all the doctors I've seen have found intriguing why I have my whole body shaved and I am talking GP's and specialists from various medical areas I believe must be my ethnicity or age but all of them mentioned something or asked why I did it.

Natalie, no one cares about shaving legs. They really don't. Funny what we do to ourselves in our own heads, but when I started shaving my legs three years ago, no one noticed and certainly did not care. I don't even think about it any more. It just is. Relax. You can shave in summer time and NO ONE will say anything. The world doesn't end for me every day!

I shave everything from the ears on down year round. My doctor says nothing about it. I go to the beach and no one pays the slightest bit of attention. Think about it. Of the last 100 guys you've encountered on the beach, how many of them shaved their body hair? If you're like me, you haven't got the slightest idea, because you've never paid the slightest bit of attention. What makes you think you're any more memorable than all those other guys?

To put it simply, me being me, I could not get away with it. Some family would question it and I am only out to my wife(my mom may have some suspicions...and we will leave it at that). Professionally, no one would question it. No one in the work place would see my legs. I am also an outdoorsman. The group of guys that I hunt, fish and drink beer with are the usual bunch of manly men who would call me out for sure as to why I shave my legs. I am not ready for nor do I need the drama. Good enough? :)

Since joining here, I've noticed there's a whole lotta shavin' going on!

I shaved once years ago...and for the first time in years ended up with
a nurse answering questions...(pulled a muscle in my side badly)

The tiny little old lady looked up at me and said "ooo...are you gay?"
Nope, just did it for the heck of it.

It figured.

But it was an very itchy experience and time consuming to keep it up, so
I never did it again. Ingrown hairs and just a lot of work.

But, with so many doing it here and other places like it, I've given it more
thought...and it looks better for my pictures.

Luckily mine is fine and light colored, but it still shows in pix.

So...I found a $9 battery operated pet shaver at walmart. The thing
is fantastic. Very well made and high quality. Runs on 1 AA battery,
and does the same job as any barbers clipper.

So it shaves anywhere from about 1/32 to an 1/8 of an inch quickly
and there's enough left that it won't get ingrown and be all itchy.
Not a close shave, but it may do a finer job if someone took their
time. I didn't. I wanted it to just appear that I had naturally finer,
shorter hair on my arms and legs.

It won't take but minutes to keep it up and it seems to work very well
for me.

For $9 it's worth a try for anyone else, I'd guess. It'll at least trim most
hair away for a razor shave if someone wanted to go all the way. And
if nothing else, it'll trim up/down a beard for easier shaving as well. The thing
is really Nice!

So far, so good for me...so I thought I'd mention it.

Last October I had an appointment myself. I had already shaved everything from the ears down and had to sit there in a tiny little gown during my exam.
Doc never flinched, let alone said anything.
I hated to do it, but started growing it all back about a month ago. The next time he sees me, I'll be a hairball again. Bet he doesn't notice it then either.

Funny about the world not ending. I used to get the pulse up years ago when my Dr examined me when I had a very femme navel jewellery in and polished toe nails! He did not care one bit. I think that is why I had blood pressure back then. It is not worth the worry, trust the experiential advice you are getting from this site. Go out and have some fun.

There is a new commercial for a razor specifically designed for a male to shave his body. So, it must be becoming more and more common. I have seen it during some fairly mainstream shows.

Reminds me of a current McDonalds commercial running here. Can't find it on Youtube yet. But essentially a young guy joins his friends in McDonalds. He apologises for not being there earlier explaining that he was shaving his chest. One of his friends reacts contemptuously saying 'Did you hear that lads, he shaves his chest?' Then the punchline: 'Why don't you wax like the rest of us?'

The narrator (Chris O'Dowd) goes on to say something about how being a man has changed today and then tries to sell us a 'manly' burger.

The point being that shaving and waxing is now far more normal particularly among the younger generation who need it least. So no wonder the Doctor didn't react. For all you know he does it himself.
