View Full Version : Looking like women in your family, did it happen to you also?

One of the things that really touched me the first time I dressed was finding I looked really really like some women from my family.
In particular, my aunt and her daughter, they have a very similar hair to the wig I'm using, and I had never noticed how I looked like them. But enter the wig, make-up, certain angles and all of a sudden I realized how I had the same nose, eyes, face shape as them... which makes all the sense, but I had never realized before because I had never thought about it or seen me with make-up on.
I felt very emotional and also sad that I can't just go and show them. They would really freak out.
Has something similar happened to you, girls?
Love.

Oh yeah :)
3 out of 5 sisters for me. The resemblance is Extremely strong.
So much as to just switch our faces between the 4 of us.

Yep, and it's amazing at the tiniest little subtle details that
leaves many of us stuck looking like 'men' forever.
It's mesmerizing sometimes....

At my mother's funeral eight years ago, I displayed a picture of her taken when she was about 17 years old. One of my co-workers who saw it was convinced it was a picture of me, dressed up. On looking more closely I had to agree that the resemblance was remarkable. I hadn't noticed before how similar we looked, because I was only comparing myself to my older Mom, not as she had looked fifty or sixty years earlier.

Yes... it's a very special feeling I wish some day I can go and show them. It would mean a lot. I know I will, eventually.
By the way, I absolutely love that photo, your style, how you wear those glasses, the hair, everything! You are absolutely beautiful.

My parents divorced when I was young. Not so much on my mother's side, but on my father's side I see a resemblance to my half sisters and if I was younger with some of my nieces.

I've had the same thing. I did a french maid outfit for Halloween and my wife's sister took one look at me and said "Oh my god you look just like your mother". Other people who saw me or some pic's said the same, or a cross between my mom and my sister. Funny when my sister saw me she said "wow I wish my legs looked that good". She is five years older than me though.

Yes I do!
I have inherited many facial and physical features from my mother - there are specific similarities with teeth, nose, eye shape... she had good legs too, apparently... :o The one significant difference physically is that she was a dead black brunette, dad was blonde, and I ended up in between...
That's the reason I avoid very dark hair now - too many similarities...
Anyway - thank goodness I inherited my mother's looks and my father's brains - if it was the other way around I doubt I'd be sitting here today for all sorts of reasons... (bless them both :))
Thanks Diana - interesting perspective... :D

Hi Diana,
So your aunt and HER (oops !) daughter are stunning too ! You're doing very well with your English, you have a real mixed bag of English speakers here from around the World !
They do say that the daughter looks like the father and the son looks like the mother, in my family it's probably true in three generations.

Ooops Teresa, my mind betrayed me in a funny way, being this place of all... but it only has to do with my Spanish mind which doesn't differentiate genders in such words...
In my case, by looking at my own face in a new light with all the making up and setting myself free to pose and photograph myself in ways I had never done, I found that the upper part of my face, up and including the nose is very similar to that of women from my mum's part of the family, like my aunt and cousin.
And then the lower part which includes my mouth, jaw, chin is very prominent, square, manly I'd say. Just like my father's. That's the part I wish it was different :P

I think if you play around with makeup and see if strong or pastel lipstick changes the emphasis on you lower face, also see if chokers or neck wear make a difference.

My husband looks exactly like his sister when he dresses and he's commented on it himself. It was actually kinda creepy at one point. He had a wig a few years ago (we still have it but lost track of it during our latest move) that was almost identical to how she wore her hair at that point in time. When he'd get in full dress the only real difference was his voice.

In drab, I look like my father and was often confused for him on phone. But my wife, who has not seen me dressed, noted my very clean shaven face and discussing my CDing, thought I looked like my mother. I think I look closer to my aunt.

A few years ago, I looked enough like my mother that even I would get confused about whether it was her or me in one of our photos. A couple of people who have known my mother for decades also confused us in that picture.
My mother doesn't look very feminine these days, but still people know she is female. If I could trickle over our facial differences to the point where people know I am female too, then I will not have any difficulty in living as female.
My sister and I are visually related, people "see" without difficulty that we are at most cousins -- and yet we do not look all that similar. But both of us have the nose structure from my father's side of the family.

Depending on which wig I choose I can see one of my sisters in the mirror. It's close enough that I wonder what would happen if another family member or one of her friends saw me in that wig. Would they walk up and think they were talking to her?

Yes I look like my Mother. As confirmed when I let my hair grow long and blow dried it. Only for my five year old to exclaim: Nanny! and that was entirely as a man. I also look like one of my sisters. The best looking one. I'm pleased to say. The only downside is that my Mother is 87. But she was always a babe.
Over the holidays (thanksgiving and christmas) I saw my younger sister and commented that I was seeing a lot of our mother in her. I'm remembering our mother in her 70s thru her 90s. When I shaved my beard in January and looked at myself I was struck by how much I resembled my sister and my mother, I'm 73 and my sister is 69 so we are approching the age that I'm remembering my mother.
Wow, was that ever a shock!!!

I look exactly like my cousin Gail. In fact we have looked so much alike that many times we have been confused as twins. (Other than our difference in height - she's about 3 inches taller - the only other difference is our eye color. Her eyes are green and mine are blue.) My sister Janice has told me I also look like our mother when she was younger. She's also stated there's no doubt that we are sisters because she sees a bit if her and my other two sisters in my face as well. But of my three sisters, I most resemble the oldest of them.

As a kid growing up everyone always said that my brother and I looked just like our mother. The first time I had a wig and makeup sure enough there was a younger version of her looking back at me. It helped my confidence that I knew I actually looked like a woman.

I have 2 younger sisters. The older of the 2 I could always see a resemblance, even in drab mode.
The younger though I never thought we looked much alike until I dressed, looked in the mirror, and there she was.

Not with my first real wig but with my new one, I actually look a lot like my Mom. I saw it and my SO confirmed it. She told me the first time she saw me dressed with it on that she thought My Mom had came over while she was out. This leads to me to believe that I MAY be somewhat passable and that all my hiding behind closed doors may be for naught. then again I have never tested the waters and I may only be trying to trick myself into going out more lol ;)

She has black hair and with a black wig I look a lot like her when she was my age.
Very strange feeling when tried on black wig for first time. Now I use a brown one more like my own hair colour and don’t get the feeling that I look like her.
Don’t really want to try and look like other family members.
My sisters have blondish hair. Maybe would look like them if tried on blonde wig and try similar makeup but not done that.

Nope. I strongly resemble my dad, and my sister strongly resembles (much to her chagrin) my dad's mother. If I had been a girl, I would have wished to look like my mom's mother; a 1920's flapper, she was a knockout; must have been difficult for my mom and her sisters when growing up and realizing that they'd never be as attractive as their mother was; grandma was HOT when she was young; got married just at the end of the roaring 20's just about a month before the stock market crash.

Definitely! I look a lot like my Mom and darned if I didn't get her hips and thighs as well as her face! I was being fitted for a suit once and the seamstress stepped back and looked at me and said "you know, this would be SO much easier if you were a girl; your hips and thighs are just right for ladies attire." I actually look a lot like one of my sisters when I am not dressed, she doesn't wear makeup at all so when I put makeup on I guess I look like she would if she wore it !! The other thing I get when I am at her house and I answer the phone is - people just talk to me like I am my sister, everybody says we sound exactly alike.
