Hi could I as how I get a TV licence or how do I go about making one thank you xx

Seriously, Rachell...? :)

In the UK - the government keeps a database of all premises licenced for TVs - obviously I have to have one for my home... :)

If you don't have a licence, the government sends round men in vans who check your home for unlicensed TVs and if they find one, they take it away!

So glad this doesn't apply to CDs too... :hiding:

(I'll leave this bizarre thread for a while to see if anyone else gets it - then I'll punt it to the Lounge... :))

If u get your tv license you may need one for your computer monitor too. I have unregistered tvs so the gov doesnt know. Im kind of a rebel that way.

Good luck in your search though ;)

Apparently so, and I'm looking up the appropriate authorities in all your areas right now to blow the whistle :heehee:
My wife owns ALL the TVs in our house....me included.

Sheila stole my answer... LOL

I do know a little about CD licenses. They come in grades of A, B and C with class A being the most difficult to obtain.
The grades are based on gross weight, which I think has to do with the size of your purse.
I just wonder if a Hazardous Material certification is required for my makeup...

Darn! I have held several classes of radio license in the past and still have an active radio license today, but never got a TV one.

But I think the OP, Rachell, is asking a serious question and we may be a bit umfair with our answers.

Rachell, I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you mean a driver's license with your femme name and picture? Or do you mean the sort of "carry letter" that TG/TS people sometimes carry to show that they are under treatment for TG/TS?

Hugs,
Persephone.

If you mean one of those licences to be a TV, they were a little comedy thing on BeckysWeb which sadly closed a few years ago. You use to be able to add your pic and make up comedy endorsements and it was overlaid with "TV LICENCE".

Katey, this thread can't go into the Lounge since it discusses TV topics! :)

Persephone, your ham ticket covers ATV, all you have to add is money! That does lead to some interesting new ways of being outed. Be sure the transmitter is off before you walk in front of the camera pretty (or drab, depending upon the friends)!

Now, as far as TV receiver licenses, we don't have those here in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave and in fact the concept of paying for broadcasts is somewhat distasteful to us. "They can have my unregistered TV when they pry it out of my cold dead fingers!" :)

I was just recently told by someone who would definitely know, that
at least here in GA where I am, One can go to the DMV while dressed
and get a state ID card.

If one gets pulled over when dressed and they have that along
with their normal drivers license, it can explain why they look the way
they do.

I think it may also have something to do with legal protections...but I'm
not sure.

For info; the TV license funds the BBC. Not just the TV (BBC's 1, 2 ,3, 4 and a 24 hour news channel) but at least 6 national radio stations, god knows how many local stations, free catch up TV and radio via the iPlayer and a huge web content not to mention several world class orchestras. And the real beauty is, not a commercial in slight. We can watch a film, drama, documentary, news without being sold washing powder or junk food. Worth every penny!

It would be even better if the BBC showed anything worth watching!

Funny story re the men in vans! I belonged to a ham radio club that occupied a terraced house in the city. We had several antennas up including one that looked remarkably like a TV antenna (but wasn't). Anyway, we got a TV license demand addressed to "the Occupier". We ignored it because we had no TV receivers on the premises (plenty of monitors though!). Some weeks later we got a second demand, which we also ignored! Then we got the first threatening letter - pay up or we'll fine you and confiscate your TV. So we wrote back stating that we have no TV equipment on the premises and that all transmitting / receiving equipment was covered by our two ham radio licences (which were issued by them!). This they duly ignored and sent a second threatening letter, this time threatening to inspect the property and seize any unlicensed equipment. So we wrote back saying that we would welcome an inspection and would they like to arrange a mutually convenient time! Silence! We waited two weeks and resent the letter. Silence! That was several years ago and we're still awaiting a reply! The firm concerned have since lost the contract.

It is a criminal offence to not have a TV licence in the United Kingdom.
If you make one you could be put in gaol. In the states there is no jail sentence for anything like this.

An alternative here to corporal punishment is watching cable television. :)

Hey I guess you need to punt it and me to the lounge.... Lol I still haven't got the thread. Does one have to have a TV transmitter license to operate a TV in UK? So is it against the law to just occasionally glance at a TV? I could see if you were on the receiving end of a TV you might want a health license..... Somebody help......... Lol

Hi Rachel,
You've got me confused, if you live in the UK are you struggling to get a television licence as Rachel or does Rachel think she needs a TV licence to be Rachel ? The post office can help you with the first and there may be a download document on this forum for the second ! What a Cder needs a licence for I'm not sure not unless you get discount vouchers at some stores !

I had to get a TV licence, I was fed up with trying to avoid those TV detector vans that they send round the country, very clever as they can not only detect a TV but tell what the TV is showing........................

As applied to CD's...do you need a learner's permit if you only wear 1" heels? At what height do you need to get a full license?

Thankfully I don't have any TV's anymore...mine are all monitors...darn lizards are so hard to keep fed though.

We find it amusing to find that one of our favorite programs, Downton Abbey, is shown in the UK heavily laden with commercials and in the USA with none! Go figure!

I detect much sarcasm in the replies to this thread but I have had my TV license for years. While I have never used it, I understand it gets you special treatment when you flash it at venues such as sleazy biker bars, hate group rallies and porn book stores.

Helen_Highwater

Jaylyn,
In the UK if a household has a TV set(s) then a license is required to receive programs. One license covers the household. To transmit TV signals is a whole different kettle of fish. That's covered by all sorts of regulatory requirements.

Jaylyn

Thank you Helen. I really hope this doesn't get out here in the US as really can't afford another dang license. My bills are expensive enough. I guess even at my ripe old age one can still learn a lot. Lol who'd ever think of a TV License.
Hey Ally I love your TV License may have to get one to get into my sleazy bar and porn club....lol... Is there a test one has to take to obtain one?..... Lol

So, if I wasn't British and didn't know better - by now, I might be asking...

When you say a TV set, is that like having a Barbie, Office casual, Cowgirl, Sporty, Clubby ....? :)

And all in one place - and how do you know when you have the full set...?

Krisi that's the price we pay for no commercial breaks , most of the time I think it's worth it, and the BBC has given us all some of the best programs over the years.

Tv is something you watch when you are bored and a tranny is that thing that makes your car shift gears and go. They both cost money when they go out. As for us transgender and transexual folks. We dont need a license to be who we are. Maybe some guidance and some counseling but no permission slip.

In addition to the UK, in Norway you also have to pay a TV license if you own a box that can receive TV signals. Currently it is about $450 a year.

As Teresa says, most of the time it's worth it. It's less stressful not to be on guard to hit the mute button whenever a commercial abruptly starts.

I pay for my TV licence so that I can operate my LCD TV full time :)

When I was a student a TV licence inspector actually entered our student house and found a TV set. But since it was strategically disconnected from the mains and aerial socket we insisted that it was not in use and the "owner" of the set had moved out. The inspector left without doing anything.

Wait do I have to get a license if I have a tv but it's not plugged in? It's just an extra one lying around. Damn government always trying to get more of out money. :)

Beverley Sims
03-30-2014, 07:30 AM
You only need a licence if you "possess" a television set.

You can watch it for free as long as you don't loiter.

There is another law covering that. :)

Is there a test for the TV license? How many questions, and where do I study for it.
I just renewed my CDL, does that count for anything? There where 100 Questions on that test,
and I got a 98% on it. It takes a good 2 hours to take that test; + the driving test.

Again...there IS a such thing as as State issued ID card here in the U.S.

I was told by a very well known TS woman recently that I can go to my DMV office
and get an ID card with a picture of myself dressed however I please.

I have to use the same info on my drivers license (Real name), but the picture can
be whatever I want it to be.

She'd suggested it out of the blue, so I don't know much about it, but also I don't
have any reason to think she was kidding about it.

I'd heard of this before, but never checked into whatever reason someone may
have to do it. She did seem to say it wasn't any big deal to get it.
(assuming I have the nerve to go to a crowded DMV office dressed to the 9's...lol!)

So there's a legal state issued equivalent of a "CD/TV/TG license"...if someone wants
one.

(At least nobody is likely to attack us in a place full of State Troopers....)

Is this true? I believe so.

KaceyR
03-30-2014, 09:26 PM
That's true...but I believe availability varies per state.
I think MI doesn't allow for a second ID card if you already have your regular license.

I love how this thread has shifted all over based on people's interpretation of 'TV' :D
I think Japan also has collectors that go around communities collecting their version of TV license payments..
On topic...I remember someone else here doing up a license/ID card and had a pic of that.
Was going to make one of those myself..if I could find that sample again.

this thread made me smile!!!! I guess she was talking about an ID for dressed, which I think is a wonderfull idea...yet used the dreaded "TV' Rocky Horror term for us gals...LOL...Yea you can get a legal ID ant your local dmv dressed any way you like...the real question is will you go to the dmv dressed? I have yet to venture to such a fun place dressed yet.
