After 30 years of dressing in secret I finally told one of my best friends (who happens to be a GG). It was right before Halloween last year. I don't remember how it came up but I just told her, I felt it was time to tell someone. She was very accepting of it and had tons of questions. We talked for hours and she is super excited for me to take the next steps and has offered to help me out. It was an incredible and liberating experience. I truly hope that some out here will be able to experience the freedom I did! Just wanted to share this story!

Jenna,
Good for you. I know how it feels. Good to have a shopping buddy.

Good for you! I am still coming to terms with my SO's admission to CDing, but I do know it takes a lot of courage to "out" yourself to anyone. I am sure it is somewhat liberating for you. Congratulations and I am glad you have such a good friend.

I was in your same position 3 years ago, when there were two remaining close friends of my 'gang of 5' from college that i thought should know after knowing them 40+ years. It went very well, did'nt affect out friendship and we had an outing the following week as me dressed enfemme among my 4 closest friends obviuosly en drab and we all went out together to a Philharmonic concert then a drink afterwards. Acceptance Nirvana!

Good for you Jenna - it's a long time to keep anything under wraps... and I can imagine what the liberation and validation must feel like :)

I've often wondered about the possibility of telling a close male friend - but I think I'll just stick with you girls for now... more prudent...

I remember how good it felt the first few times and it still feels good telling people. I'm about 80% out now in the world and feel really great about it. Good for you, just take your time if you decide to tell others.

I am so glad it went well for you. The first time I told someone other than my wife, it was a close friend(GG), and she went ballistic. It took me another 25 years to tell anyone else.

When this happens I think of the advancement I can make.

The first time I told someone I was so nervous I could barely stop shaking, all it takes is mustering the courage to start and then you feel like you want to tell everyone. So happy for you.

Congrats to you! That was a giant step in a positive direction on the road to discovering your feminine side! May you have many more wonderful experiences. Enjoy.

I am hoping to go out fully dressed for the first time to the club this May (hopefully it'll warm up by then!). I asked if she would like to go with myself and another GG friend who knows about me as well (another friend I told who happens to be a proffesional makeup artist!) and she is super excited to go! I'll have two wing-women that night! Can't wait!:)

On this forum there are quite a few threads on the subject of disclosure. Some of them chronicle bad experiences, some of them good. It appears that the good ones outnumber the bad, and yours provides one more ray of sunshine to peek into a dark closet somewhere.

Thanks for posting that uplifting story.

Best wishes
