In the past month of so, I have been running into challenges in finding a gender therapist, but I finally found a person who was under my insurance. Unfortunatly I have to travel 40 miles to go see them. But after my first session last week and today's session, it is totally worth it and think I finally have found a good therapist. What is great is she was worked with several clients that have/are transitioning and her SO has transitioned as well.

During my first session I didn't know what to expect. I actually was planning on going as Billie and had pick out my outfit, got my wig, and makeup ( was planning on putting on my wig and makeup when I got there). But by the time I got there and being in public, I freaked out and walked in partially dressed. The session itself was great and I was able to address something's that I was going through, where I was, and my plans on what I wanted to do. By the end of my first session the therapist did being up that there was a gender health center near by and see knew the people that ran the clinic. She also said that I was more then welcome to come fully dressed.

Well for today's session, I decided to go as Billie and stick to it. But this time I put on my wig and some makeup before I walked out the door. While I walked around my apartment and drove around a couple times as Billie, today was the first time I was out in public; a downtown college city no less. It was nerve wrecking, but I did it and the therapist was excited to see me dressed as well. I think I just have gained a lot if confidence today in being myself.

Another thing that is exciting is that I was able to contact the gender center and scheduled an appointment to see someone about starting hormones. But since they see a lot if people, I have to wait till July August. Which is fine by me and actually works out perfectly.

Congratulations Billie. It sounds like your therapist may be located in Bizerkeley. That is also a great place to go have lunch, or dinner, or just walk around campus and the commercial areas to help you build up your confidence to take bigger steps out in the public. Once you do it enough times, I think that you will quickly see how much fun it is and makes that Real Life Experience stage seem much less difficult. Good luck and enjoy.
