It's finally happened and for some reason it doesn't bother me!

As I'm here finishing my nails to my transformation for the day I suddenly realized I needed something else to make my transition complete. It wasn't physical but totally a mental one.

Music!!! Specifically - Ballads.

I find myself listening to Celine Dion, J Lo, Sarah McLachlan and Enrique Iglesias. I'm just hoping it doesn't come to listening to Justin Beber. Ewww!!!

Fortunately the transference doesn't occur when I revert back to my male persona.

What a shame for you it doesn't stay all the time, Ilsa... I can definitely flip between what might be construed 'girly' and - normal.. but it happens regardless of how I'm dressed... but then you say you 'revert back' to your male persona, whereas I don't think I change... vive la difference, eh? :)

I can definitely go with Celine and especially Sarah McLachlan - 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' is a great album and one of my faves... maybe I'll try listening the next time Katey get's some down time...

I'll bet not everyone here goes for ballads...

Katey,

If it gets to the point that I'm listening to it all the time you can bet I'll be dressed as Ilsa forever!:surrender

I not only listen to them, I act them out and sing them. Keeps me young and out of trouble. ;):battingeyelashes::)

I leave the ballads to my wife. She listens to enough for the two of us. :)

I'm like Katie, my tastes don't change in either mode.

Hi Ilsa,

I normally listen to music when I am getting dressed and doing make-up but it varies across the spectrum everything from ABBA to Rob Zombie and all points in between. However I use the same mix of music if I am working on renovations "en boy".

Justin Beiber . . . Never. I would rather slide down a 50 foot razor blade and land in a pool of iodine then listen to that guy. That is one Canadian ex-pat who can stay where he is. :) Sorry to all my US sisters for that one. :heehee:

Hugs

The range of music I normally listen to is eclectic to say the least. It kind of depends on the situation of course. I love to make 'mixtapes' and this is my current 'party en femme' playlist:

Gossip – Move in the Right Direction
Baskerville – The Fuss
Marina and The Diamonds – Primadonna
Robyn with Kleerup – With Every Heartbeat
Annie – Heartbeat
The Knife – Heartbeats
Rihanna – Only Girl (In the World)
The Ting Tings – Shut Up and Let Me Go
Alexis Jordan – Happiness
Loreen – Euphoria
Little Boots – New in Town (Thanks to Adriana, thanks for that)
La Roux – In For The Kill
Lenka – Everything at Once
Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette – Hello
David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over
Florence + The Machine – You've Got The Love
Lorde – Team
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Heart Attack
Soulwax – NY Excuse

If ballads are your thing, try listening to Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen Macrea, Sarah Vaughn, Betty Carter and even Judy Garland if those are too advanced for you. No mellismas, actual harmonies and no cheating.

Thanks Zylia... :Angry3: I know who Rihanna is in that list and that's it... I guess that puts me in the 'old git' and out of touch category completely... ;)

Ilsa - get those ballads and a box of tissues ready - I need to weep for my long lost youth...

That's Okay Katey,

At least you don't admit to listening to Slim Whitman! Though I must admit I have a couple of Robert Goulet, Frank Sinatra and Steve and Edie albums that I got from my parents collection lying around waiting for the day that I can slip into a size 6 cocktail dress and be accompanied by 007 to Monte Carlo!

Ilsa, dressing does open the floodgates, I went through some of my old vinyls, I haven't played some of Elton John for years, started with " My Song " and worked through James Taylor and ended up with some heavy rock with Jethro Tull. Some of that stuff was good but it's the memories that came with it, some of those parties ! Oh boy !
Thanks Ilsa I'll go and play some more.

It's almost easier to say what I don't like - mostly anything contemporary. Most of my music collection is 16th thru 18th century music with an emphasis on German Baroque sacred music and Elizabethan consort music. I also have large collections of field recordings of Appalachian fiddlers and banjo players, early blues, early country and 50s-70s rock and R&B. The last year or so I've been listening to a lot of early jazz. To my ear, the music that sounds most feminine (or effeminate) are English lute songs and music from around the Rococo period (Couperin, Rameau, etc.) And yes, I love Slim Whitman whose music once saved the earth from conquest!

My male self is almost exclusively involved with classical music. Tina will pull out some rock from college days :)

I am a saloon singer, a crooner and have been accused of only singing ballads and love songs...but when I am getting ready I go R&B...old school Marvin Gaye and the Temps. Music really died in 1985. I agree with the above, listen to things that aren't enhanced in studio, no autotune, no electronic distortion. And support live musicians

I was just discussing the topic with my wife! Apparently the more I'm in touch with my female side the more acceptable I am with music, I never listen to pop and mainstream before Michelle started to be a bigger part of our lives. Now I can't get enough of Pink, Kathy P and Kesha, who knew!?

Eeek! Quite the opposite for me, as 1986 saw the advent of acid house etc. when the club scene that I love, started. I'm a Vocal Trance type, which is everything you listed above Lorileah. :heehee:

That said, outside of trying to turn my brain to jelly, I have always loved the Carpenters (Karen really was the greatest, our loss, heavens gain) and Fleetwood Mac. I loved live rock gigs years back, Zeppelin, Purple, Hawkwind and Judas Priest (just before they were destroyed by the music industry - 'The Ripper' live was the most amazing tune I heard in many a year at the Roundhouse).

I don't find that my tastes change at all. I have a very wide, varied taste whether or not I'm cross-dressed. I'm just as likely to listen to Amy Winehouse in guy mode as I am Pantera in girl mode. And I don't listen to Biebs in any mode. (:

Ballads are good. Think "Chicago." They have some great ballads.

First Chicago song that popped in my head was Saturday in the Park and then 25 or 6 to 4. You must be a post Peter Cetera fan ;) Of ourse there is the classic ballad sung by Terry Kath, Colour My World
