That is a good place to start looking for a therapist that is compatible with you

Thank you for the post Aimee20. I do believe i would need to see a Psychologist vs a Counselor to be able to start HRT. Am i correct on this.

Mostly what matters is the person you are working with knows and understands trans related care. The therapist won't be the one to prescribe HRT but will provide a letter of recommendation for a prescribing doctor.

I found a therapist and she offers a free 30 minute consultation. I will make an appointment so at least thats a start. I would like to know what steps i need to take to be able to start my transition and have hrt.

Seeing a specialized gender therapist is a very good idea. I urge you to share your feelings honestly and see where this is really going for you, as opposed to seeing a therapist because you want to "start HRT and start my way to womanhood."
I read a previous post you wrote a few days ago where you state "I would love to be a full TS and having the all the girly bits. Even though though i cross dress the desire to be a girl is to strong for me.”
Please share these thoughts and desires you have with your therapist because it will help them guide you correctly.

Today i was able to see a gender therapist for a consultation. I am very happy to have started this step as i have felt that i am a girl ever since childhood. I will be starting on a nee job this monday and will set an appointment for therapy as soon as i know my work schedules. Hoping to be able to have HRT which will take about 3 to 4 session in order to recommended and appointments with endocrinologists take about 3 months based on whom she recommends. I am so very excited with this new chapter in my life and realizing my dreams to be a woman.

You are on your way. Do your homework, say your prayers, and expect everything not to be what you have expected. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I saw my therapist today. And everything is moving forward. He first asked me if i would prefer to be called a he or she and i said she. Will have a more clinical session next week to follow WPATH and said that he would like to also discuss with me the effects and risks of HRT. He told me i do have gender dysphoria. I'm so happy and went shopping at for 2 dresses at H&M. Im planning on being dressed for our session next week.

I just came home from therapy and wore a red dress and heels. My therapist will now be drafting my recommendation letter! I'm so happy and excited to be able to start hormones! :)

I know right. From impatience to start hormones and waiting for the changes to occur and surgery.

If I ever get to make another trip to Colorado, I understand it is now legal to blaze up the 4:20. Mary Jane would be my therapist.

Hi Christina,
Your therapist diagnosing you with GD on your first visit and preparing your hormone treatment letter after only two visits sounds awfully fast. My advice is to seek out another therapist and get a second opinion, possibly from the other offers of recommendations.
Feeling good about pretty dresses and high heels is a very long way from permanently altering your body with drugs and surgery. You need to slow things down.

Simone, he is not giving it too me yet until a few more sessions. He said he was just drafting it. This week i believe we talk about hormones and it's effects both good and bad. How long does it usually take for therapists to issue the letter?

It varies from person to person, but the WPATH guidelines is a minimum six months of therapy. I sure hope you spend a good amount of time exploring your feelings of identity before heading down the rabbit hole. If wearing a red dress and high heels makes you feel good then enjoy doing that kind of thing for a few months before asking for hormones.
