Well, yesterday, iagain forot to remove my flash drive at the library a few blocks from where i live. I discovered i forgot it last night. Went there today, expecting to find it turned in. NOT!! It was removed by the person who used the computer next, but not turned in. I asked if the library could check the records to see who followed me, on it, but that is against privacy law. Oh, bummer! i put a note on the bulletin board, about it missing. What worries me, is this is a small town, and i live 2 blocks from the library, and there are THOUSANDS of pics of me dressed up, a small number of me in guy mode, pics of my unusual 1976 car, pics of the little house i rent. Hundreds of videos of me modeling dresses, lingerie, some very seductive. I do not know what kind of person has my flash drive, male or female, bigot, or tolerant. But, they will sure get their eyes full, and then some, maybe for days, before they see everything on their, including two pics of an admirer holding me (non porno). If they recognize me, as i am in their everyday, and know where i live, which is nearby, I suppose gosssip, and other problems could have me branded in town. I just hope the person forgot to turn it in, but that is unlikely. It bothers me that a person would take it, in a small town, and not turn it in. Maybe the person took some looks first, and decide this was hot stuff, and took it home. i only hope they will turn it in later. Scary.

Alice, that's awful - you have my sympathy... :hugs:

I would recommend to anyone who uses portable drives to use a basic security and encryption application if they have any personal data they move around... Stable door and horse in this case, I know, but worth reiterating...

Katey, Thanks for the advice. Also, i would have done better, to have it on my keys ring. This could become my worst nightmare, or nothing may happen. I hope i don't have trespassers, or vandalism, or exposure. Hopefully, little will happen. Again, this is scary.

I hope things go well with this for you Alice, Just another bump in the road I hope.
This is the reason for me to not keep anything I don't want revealed on any devices.
My memories are good enough.
Much Love,
Kristyn

Yep, too late now.......
Also I second Kathy's thought, though might want to expand them to include ALL desktops and laptops.
You just never know when some one might walk off with something of value. Or you just forget to log off and a friend happens to see your photos....
Sad to say I don't practice what I preach...... I guess I feel if they want to find out, then I will be outed also....

Hi Alice,

Ouch! I use a Kingston encrypted key, they are not cheap but luckily I work in the industry, so I got it from work for nothing. It really is a case of "there but for the grace of god go I", as I left my key in a computer at a far flung office a little while ago. Whoops, big style. Luckily, as it was encrypted, no one could access it before I got to go and retrieve it.

Most people will have a quick look at the contents and then format it to use for their own purposes. I hope this is the case for you.

I guess never put something on a device you might be sorry for.
Alice I hope it works out OK for you.

My guess is someone saw it and used it for themselves filling it with their own data. Who knows it could be full of Pics of men wearing lingerie just none of them you. :)

Oh, boy, Alice, I can certainly understand how worrisome that would be... how terrible. But, on the other hand, when nothing can be done, worry is pointless, isn't it? I really hope it ends up being nothing.

I highly recommend a free encryption software called Trucrypt, it uses industrial standard strong encryption algorithms. You can either create a container file which you mount as a virtual drive with its own drive letter, or encrypt the whole drive with it.

Did i mention it is free?!

You never know. This could turn out for the better and you find yourself with a handsome admirer or even better a gorgeous woman that would love to see more of your fem side ;)

Alice,
I agree it is awkwardto lose your identity like this.
Losing my computer with private stuff on it would put the cat amongst the pigeons.

I have any sensitive info encrypted and have to unscramble it to access the text file.

Pictures, none that would incriminate me.

At least your financial or health information hasn't been dumped out into the ether. That happens too often here, and I would be surprised if it didn't happen elsewhere.

Encryption software is available, but it may mean you won't be able to use your key at the library.

It still has not been turned in. I am resigned to let what happens happen, and maybe nothing will. I hope my pics and videos are not spread all over the web, though. Hoping the person looked, and was offended, and threw it into the waste basket, or, is going to use it for their storage. It bugs me that someone would steal it, though. The person may be totally turned on by the pics and videos, too. Who knows? I better just stop worrying about it.

This is why all of my CD related things stay on a pen drive that NEVER leaves the house. I won't even look at anything, this site included, on my phone or tablet. It's best to let it go till the other shoe falls. I don't think your ever going to see that pen drive again and you may be right, they may look at whatever, delete them, and use the drive for themselves.

More likely than not, if someone intentionally stole it they will just format the drive and use it for their own stuff.

I wouldn't worry about your secret identity getting out.... After finding no account numbers, they most likely formatted it, and put their own stuff on it.

Hi Alice, I'm sure that it's been reformatted by now or thrown away by now.

Dear Alice, Hopefully nothing bad happens. You just have to be really careful out in the world and try not to forget things. I'm always forgetting things, too. Hugs Jaymee

Alice

I hope whoever found it has decided to return it to you personally so no one else sees the pictures. you just never know if your luck is going to change.
