As I told every one in this thread : http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?213267-My-SO-s-three-shocks-in-a-day I went to the women's expo with my SO.
I decided to play it cautious and went in drab. The risk of running into the couple of co workers attending the show was too great. We actually did run into one, the other I didn't see but two others that I didn't know were going there actually did and we ran into them. Had I dressed, the last couple of days would have been hell on earth when it came to the workplace and we all know that unless we are transitioning or completely 100% comfortable with who we are, it's best not to bring your CD life into the workplace. Even if your not the one bringing it there.
I already knew I wasn't dressing for the expo itself but I did pack a few bags (3 to be exact, two different outfits, one pair of peep toed heels, one pair of wedges, wig, bra, enhancers, and my make up. what I forgot to pack was my makeup remover wipes and eye pads) so I could dress after we left.
The expo itself was a HUGE disappointment for both myself and my SO. None of the makeup companies even bothered to show and that was what we were hoping for. I personally hope to get some samples to see if I could match a better coverup to my skin tone but it wasn't meant to be. The one coworker that we did talk to said that last years show was 10x better and every company under the sun was there.
It felt like a huge flea market to me. Everything was way over priced and not very nice at all, especially clothing wise what little of it there was. They did have some nice jewelry vendors there but the prices again were a bit out there and we really didn't see anything that jumped at us. the one thing that every booth had though was a (slim) chance to win a shopping card and all you had to do was give them your name, address, and phone number.
I can imagine all the spam coming our way in email, mail box and phone calls. Our whole adventure there lasted about 2 hours to see everything that was there. At the end My SO said, let's go get Joanne and go to the mall. About 20 minutes away so I was actually going to go to the mall and go inside, the chances of running into anyone we knew there were drastically lower. Plus I wanted to get some pictures ;)
Well, as fate would have it, that didn't happen either. After we left the show, we drove to this mall and parked a bit out so I could change. It was a bit nippy this day so I decided to go with the jeans and wedges instead of the skirt and heels. It just made more sense.
I have already shaved, painted my toes, and had under dressed (panties and hosiery) since the beginning of the day so the makeup would take the most time. As I was dressing, it began pouring out. I mean, it was pouring buckets. We didn't even consider this so no coats, no umbrellas and I really didn't want to get my wig soaked let alone my feet so I changed right back and we headed home.
On our way, we were going to pass through a city that had a CW Price in it that had closed but reopened with what was suppose to be "better product". We both have been wanting to go there since they did and again, huge disappointment. Most of my unique heels came from this store and the new one had no shoe department to speak of. The clothes themselves were a lot worse quality wise and were from various countries that I didn't even know made products for sale. the only thing that said the same were the prices, even cheaper but there was nothing there to buy to actually save money other than to walk out empty handed.
Over all it was a very disappointing day. the expo failed to live up to it's hype, CW price failed on their end, and I didn't get to dress until I got home which I could have done from the beginning of the day. I don't want to sound whiny but I really looked forward to this day and it just shattered on all fronts.
My SO and I had a nice lunch though and spent some time together so it wasn't a total loss and she said "that's ok, there will be plenty of other chances to shine" which made everything seem a bit better in the end :D
