I think this is a different angle on some old posts I am reading. In Utah, I have to get a new passport and use that to change the gender marker on my driver's license. So I am planning out the court to passport to license time period with the rest of the name changes just falling in all around that.

But one of the things I am not sure I am seeing pluses or minuses on are when to change your name in relation to work. I am currently thinking that I will just start two to three months out (I won't mind) and then just not give them paperwork until I am ready to walk out the door for the last time under my current name.

Does anyone have any experiences that say there is an advantage or disadvantage one way or another?

you can tell the folks at work you are Sue (When the time comes) and from then on you are sue professionally and socially...it shouldn't be an issue if not legally...

but when that time comes you can then work with HR, insurance and payroll to get your legal docs in order so that you can get paid under the right name.. it's also helpful to let your bank know what you are doing because they will cash checks under your old name...in 2005 my car was robbed and the guy had to pay restitution...he was a career bad guy and never paid so the state just sent me $300 but its under my old name... my banks knows so they cash the check..

From the day I had my name change my bank would not allow me to cash checks made out to my old name.

Keep in mind the name change will not be finalized until maybe 3 months after filing.
That and you have to do all the footwork with changing it at banks, SS office, state ID, and pretty everything.

Get the notorized judge signed docs first, then SS office, and then everything else.
