I've been seriously crossdressing for about 18 months. I really want to start hormones, mainly for the fat redistribution effects. Breast growth and softer skin would also be good. What I'm worried about is being noticed by my close friends, NO ONE KNOWS I DRESS. Is it possible to take hormones and not be outed by their effects?

You may have been 'seriously cross-dressing' (whatever that means), but maybe you should take HRT somewhat seriously as well. It's not 'magic girl candy', it comes with serious effects and repercussions on your body and mind, some of which you really do not want if you're a closet dresser. If you want a better shape as a cross-dresser, buy a 'serious' corset and some pads, if you think you need HRT, visit a gender therapist.

I agree, this isn't a game where you can use them for certain things but not expect others. The changes you are desiring won't happen quickly (if at all). A therapist would be in order

Fat redistribution is one of the lesser effects, and may take years to start. The only fat redistribution I have noticed in my 2 1/4 years of HRT is that my face got a little rounder.

It's possible. Perhaps even likely.
I think you may be expecting a bit too much from the 'juice'. It works best if you're younger but some girls get very little out of it. My only advice would be to let a doctor manage your dosage.

My question to you is if you engage in HRT why are you concerned about being outed?
That is just another of the many side effects.
First HRT messes with your brain and you probably will not care bout being outed.

Hon, you do need to see a gender therapist first. In general you seem pretty conflicted - you want changes from HRT to your face, breasts and body. So you want visible changes and yet not have people notice? That just doesn't even begin to make sense!
Are you wanting to transition, but not live as a woman except in private? If you are transsexual and really need to transition, you aren't going to feel good about that choice.

My answer to the initial question is yes. Sooner or later your friends will surely notice. Allow a therapist to guide you to a decision of this magnitude. And don't try it without medical monitoring. Too much can go wrong with self medication. HRT is telling your body to go through puberty again, only 180 degrees different. I've been on HRT for only 8 months and there is noticeable changes, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Thank you everyone for your input. After some serious thought it looks like body shapers and makeup are the best way to go for now. No "magic girl candy".

I think that's a sensible choice Erica. Although not mentioned, estrogen, especially accompanied with spironactalone, has a couple of other side effects you probably don't want:
1. You'll have difficulty having erections after a while. (I've been on HRT for 9 months now - there is no lead in my pencil - which is a relief for me, really.)
2. They can cause large emotional changes. If you are transsexual, these changes tend to be quite positive - HRT saved my life. If you are not transsexual, you will NOT enjoy how HRT makes you feel.
So yeah, makeup is your friend.

As others have already said, it's best to determine what you really want to do before considering anything, especially female hormones. They are not to be taken lightly. There are various types of forms and shape wear as Zylia mentioned to simulate body fat.:)

Crossdressers don't take hormones. Easy. A Doctor won't give them to you, and self medicating is Russian roulette with all six bullets in the gun.
