I suspect that many of us are. Anybody care to try the test at http://psychcentral.com/cgi-bin/narcissisticquiz.cgi and report their results. I scored 12.

Ha Ha! I scored 12 too... :) Frankly I think I should probably score more (that's a bad thing...) but it's only a short test...
However - I have said before I think there is a touch of narcissism about what some of us do... photos and a lot of references to mirrors seem to confirm that for me. That said, I don't think it's something we should be beating ourselves up for - there are far worse traits out there than the propensity for a bit of a preening and self-admiration - and plenty of folk who'll queue up to metaphorically beat us up for a lot of other things we do...
Anyway - we couldn't look our best if we didn't spend so much time being self-analytical... could we?

Hi Amanda,
Narcissists . . . whoa boy . . . I work with a whole slew of them. BTW score 15 on the test so perhaps my leanings are a bit in that direction.
However the interesting take on this would be is the person a narcissist "en boy", "en femme" or both. I suspect both so .... the narcissistic CDer would have to be someone who when dressed sees herself as superior to other CDers even though she suffers from a huge lack of self esteem. Interesting question nonetheless though.

Amanda, I'm telling the whole truth 12. ! I think if they were on a sliding scale my score would have been higher ! I am still surprised being self employed for thirty years as a photographer, taking control of a situation you have to have some tricks up your sleeve and believe in what you're doing !

I don't bother with such tests even out of curiosity. I know who I am and don't particularly care about seeing what someone else thinks I am. :)

No, no way. I scored an 8. I am an introvert with a low self-esteem.
I understand that you have to score over 18 to be a narcissist.
Being a narcissist is more than our vanity It includes how you view yourself as a leader, your social confidence, being a show-off, and exploiting others.

7 here. I scored on authority and manipulativeness.
I think the score on manipulativeness is too low and should be higher, btw.

My 2 cents: A true narcissist cares too much about what people think about them, and wouldn't want to be seen as (or admit to being) manipulative, attention seeking, etc. Hence they would probably score low on that test, either on purpose or more likely due to sub-conscious affecting the answers they pick. Also, true narcissists don't even realize they are one, so again wouldn't pick things like "I am a born leader", even though at some deeper unconscious level they may think they are.

11...lol...zeros on self sufficiency and entitlement...II really am a mess...tee hee.
The trouble with tests like these is that if you have even a little smarts it is too easy to read through what they are asking, and manipulte the results. Fun though...:-)

I scored a 15. I think questions like these are odd though. If you know you are taking a test for something, aren't you going to read into the questions and on some level pick your answers accordingly?

Narcissistic?
I can't even spell the word.:)
I scored a 16, hmmmm! I do think that we tend to be a bit narcistic as we are trying to look like our vision of a GG.

29. I LOVE ME!. A lot of what they ask is more self confidence. I am in a profession where just being good isn't good enough. That holding back and being tentative can result in loss of life. I don't see that as narcissistic. I am a narcissist though, I have to be otherwise I might as well just stay home and wilt. Life is for living and you have to make it what you want.

Answered as a 54 year old female. 8 was my score. Final analysis was all traits scored as 1 except Exhibitionism was a 2.
I am a show off and I like attention at times but I vary between outgoing and introvert, so I think it was pretty accurate.

I scored a 9, High marks for self sufficiency, and vanity.
Guess I need to get some more tools, and mirrors. I have had my eye on
a new belt sander for a while now, oh, and a full length mirror would be wonderful!

I am so average I scored a 12. I read an article a while ago in "Psychology Today" about narcissistic behavior and realized I wasn't one then, but had thought I might be. So actually all I really know is that I'm confused. Hugs Jaymee

I don't need a test to tell me I'm a narcissist... I can also tell ya why to... My ugly side has/had absolutely NO self esteem, and I was bullied all though school.
But, when I would come out for events like Halloween, things changed.People responded to me differently. I got compliments, people wanted to interact with me. Then when I finally got the courage to "come out", more of the same. I feel like I go from zero to hero, just by being my real self.
I don't know, maybe people respond better to Wynonna over "ugly" because I feel more confident, and comfortable with who I am.

Between 12 and 15 is average.
Celebrities often score closer to 18.
Narcissists score over 20.

I think it's funny how "normal" is 12-15 and you think you're narcissistic...I scored a 24 being modest...although I have taken two test before with hundreds of questions to get to what I already new...24 is a bit too low.

OK, tried again and got a 16 with a very high score in superiority. So, I'm not narcissistic, I'm just netter than everybody else. :)
And for the record, I'll bet my lunch money that if a valid analysis were done across the crossdressing community, narcissism would be about as common here as the general population within a standard deviation or two.
Leslie Langford
05-19-2014, 07:16 PM
My "guy" side scored 14, but "Leslie" - being far more of an extrovert than "her" male alter ego - would likely have scored significantly higher on that spectrum.
It strikes me, though, that for those of us who exhibit what are typically considered narcissistic traits - feeling "special", taking on leadership roles, not taking criticism well, not "following the herd" etc. - birth order and/or status may play a major role here, and we are not simply the self-centered @ssholes that others might presume us to be.
In my case, I was an only child, and as a such, never had to compete with a sibling. But that also made me very independent and self-reliant, because when you're an only child, you learn at a very young age that if you don't do something yourself, it simply isn't going to get done. Furthermore, there's never a big brother or sister around to have your back when you need it or to help you fight your battles, nor a younger sibling to deflect the blame onto for your own personal screw-ups. You're the only game in town, and the proverbial passed buck ends up with you, and you alone. I suspect the same is often true of the oldest child in a family.
Maybe I come across as a bit of a narcissist to some - even in "boy" mode, but I think that this may be more reflective of my independent nature rather than a need to always be the center of attention that others painted with the same brush often exhibit...

Nope. I have dealt with real, certifiable narcissists. I'm not anywhere near it...no need for a test to prove it.

I scored a 17 and I agree with what Lorileah said about the survey largely measuring self confidence. It's required in my profession as well. I never consider myself narcissistic but then again if you don't like yourself you can't expect anyone else to.
Wonder what effect the gender selection question has on the survey results?

OK I scored a 12. I'm not an extreme narcissist although I have some symptoms. I was moreso when I was younger which is explained here:
http://psychcentral.com/disorders/narcissistic-personality-disorder-symptoms/
I like this website because I like psychology. But later in this article there's a blurb: How is Narcissistic Personality Disorder Diagnosed? The answer is by a trained mental health professional, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist. Doesn't this mean the self diagnosing test isn't very accurate? Self analysis can get one more confused sometimes IMHO. Pretty much everyone has some type of personalitly disorder, so normal is the minority?

I scored a 2.
It concerns me that being able to read people is considered evidence of exploitative behavior, as changing my answer to the relevant question reduced my score. The only other point I scored was in self-sufficiency. I couldn't find the relevant question for that one.
I don't know if I know how to throw such quizzes or if I answered honestly and was surprised by my low score.

63 year old female me scored 15. I was just thinking recently that I was narcissistic given the amount of time I spend on my femme photos - seemed to fit the definition. Still the results of the test show that after self-sufficiency, the next strongest trait was exhibitionism - makes sense to me.

I scored 13, which was about what I expected given some of the choices. I scored high on vanity which I would certainly hope I would given the amount of time I spend these days looking at myself in the mirror!
Nadine, tests like this are all derived from much larger tests like the MMPI which have questions that are designed to prevent the bias you suggest. This test has a couple but because it is really just derived from larger tests with many more questions. It does not have enough error correcting questions. Complex personality tests are fairly valid, as much as personality measurement is valid, which is arguable. This one is too simple to have much validity. People are always much more complicated than tests like this would suggest. This is more on the lines of a Facebook quiz (What Historical Figure Would You Be! Which Weird Alien from Star Wars Would You Be? etc., etc.) There's nothing wrong with these pastimes as long as you understand they are just entertainment and generally, a way to confirm what you already believe about yourself.
As far as the textbook DSM4 and 5 definitions for narcissistic personality goes most cross dressers are unlikely to be narcissists in the diagnostic sense. Narcissism is a trait where the narcissistic personality really does believe they are the very center of the universe, and that either other people don't really exist or that they are of so little importance that they might as well not exist. If cross dressers felt this way they would all be out in public, dressed and flamboyant and demanding attention and really pretty pissed off that they weren't getting it. Does this sound like most cross dressers on this forum?

I originally took this quiz En-Drab, with the mindset of the male me. Scored a 9.
Took it again a tonight (a few days later to somewhat forget the questions, and how I answered) still En-Drab, but registered as a somewhat younger female, and trying to answer as honestly as Kristyn would. Scored a 14. Gained points in superiority and a few other categories. Stayed steady in vanity, bit dropped in self sufficiency.
I guess the full length mirror now has priority over the belt sander!
Next test will be full dressed and really feeling it!
Damn, I need that sander too!

Their quizes are terrific; it's very easy to figure out which answers to give to get the results you want. If these are any indication of what genuine therapists use, it's no wonder the mental health field is such a failure.

I scored an 8, and was surprised. I would have thought that if any group of people would be narcissistic, CD's would! (How many of us DON'T like to look at ourselves in the mirror?) I thought that many of the questions had gender overtones -- e.g. leader vs non (active versus passive..) maybe my femme side took over here?
