Today was primary voting day in California. I'd been at a funeral this morning and then went over to the polling place so I was still in a skirt, hose, blouse, etc.
When I handed the poll official my booklet he looked at it, gave me a puzzled look and said, "Why does it say 'David?'"
In a soft voice I replied, "Because that's my name."
He shrugged and handed me the sheet to sign.
Pretty much made my day!

Persephone.

Glad it made your day, Barbara... :)
A shrug is a big statement of just accepting, but he could have been more complimentary to you...!
I guess the job probably wasn't the most stimulating for him...

Your thread reminded me of when I was trying to photograph small bridesmaids at a wedding, I always tried to remember their names but if I couldn't keep their attention I would jokingly call them by boy names. So when I arranged the groups I would call them by those names, it kept their attention because I was teasing them and it usually got a humorous response from the rest of the wedding party, resulting with a better picture.
I never once dared to call a page boy by a girl's name, no matter what he looked like ! Isn't our society strange !!

It is doubtful the poll official gets many classic looking women with a male name! Enjoy.

Aren't you glad that you are in Southern California rather than some other Southern ...?

Nice story. Here in Hemet (my area)it is vote by mail so no chance for that type of encounter.

Thank y'all!
I loved your story, Teresa!
A shrug is a big statement of just accepting, but he could have been more complimentary to you...!
The shrug seemed one of the "whatever" sort, but what I loved was his question -- it wasn't "So why are you dressed like that, David? It was "Why does a woman's booklet have some guy's name on it?"
That's really the part that made my day!

Persephone.

Barbara,
You are playing with their minds again. :)
My wife and I have separate addresses on the electoral roll.
That is a mind bender too when we go hand in hand.
