So I moved to a new area (closer to friends and accepting family) and got a new job with AT&T. I have worked for them in the past and have worked with half the people at that location. I even did my new hire training originally with the current manager 6 years ago along with working as a sales rep along side him at two different stores.

Well, somehow, he found out about me transitioning before I was even hired! I have no idea how he knew or found out. In my second day there, I approached the topic of my transition. That's when he told me that he already knew, that he had absolutely no problem with it and neither did anyone else at the store. He told me that he hired me because he knew I was right for the job and thought I would excel at it and didn't see why transitioning had anything to do with job performance. He also let me know that everyone at the store (15 people) also already knew, were 100% supportive, and have been educated on company policy regarding equal opportunity and diversity in the workplace. He let me know that AT&T has an internal social network similar to Facebook and that they also have support groups including LGBT, transgender, transsexual, and genderqueer circles I could join for support during my transition. He told me that whenever I wanted to go full time and legally change my name, he would get new name tags made, buy me all the female uniform clothing, and get everything changed in the system to support a smooth transition.

What more could a girl ask/hope for?!? Everyone has been totally wonderful and has treated me with full equality, kindness, and support. I am so happy to have found a place like that.

So for those of you transitioning and wondering if there are and trans friendly jobs out there, add AT&T to your list! They fully support diversity in the workplace on a company level and even participate in Pride events.

Thumbs up for good guy AT&T!

That is awesome news. Looking for a transition friendly job is about 4 or 5 down my list and it is good to know that At&T is open to that. I have considered moving to Atlanta since it is becoming more friendly for us girls. I might have to look you up and see if you can help me get a job at one of their other stores.

Enjoy the new job.

Sounds like a great supervisor and work environment. Maybe we should let multinational corporations run everything....seems they are a good deal more enlightened than many state legislatures here in the US.

Great, Eva!

I'm glad that you have a job like that. After I get out of the Navy, I have to decide what I will do. Since I plan to transition to becoming a woman, it is an important thing.

Congratulations Eva!
Having a reliable income and safe and friendly work environment are extremely important aspects to transitioning well. There may have been a little luck involved but I think it's more a result of you believing in yourself and getting on with living your life. Good for you :).

To be offered a position, when the hirer is "in the know" is an achievement to you but also a good indictment to the company that hired you. Congratulations to both parties :hugs:
