I'm a part time crossdresser, so you'll usually find me in male mode. Ok, sometimes there's a little underdressing, but only panties, never a bra.

I had a physical therapy appointment this morning. It was my first one, so I knew it was going to be an evaluation, so I didn't underdress in a panty, but I expected to keep my shoes or at least my shocks on.

Why is that important you ask. Because my socks are covering up my bright blue nail polish.

So the therapist (GM) calls me over to his table, and what do you think the first thing he says is? "Lets get started. Take off your shoes and socks." I was about to negotiate and see if I could keep my socks on, but I decided that it would just make it look like I wasn't ashamed of my nail polish. So, I took off my shoes and socks. The therapist kind of did a double take, but then just went on with his business.

The eval took about 30 minutes, and when he was done, he said just grab your shoes and socks and I'll turn you over to the guy who will work on your exercises. I thought he said to put on my shoes and socks, and I started doing just that. When he saw me putting on my socks, he said, "You don't have to do that. Just pick them up and bring them over here." And I did.

It's a very small office with the tables very close together. All the therapists must have seen my blue nails and most of the patients too. I usually like to be more in control of my exposures, but this time I just had to own it.

In restrospect, I wouldn't have done anything different. I didn't have either the time or the inclination to take off my nail polish. I knew I was taking a calculated risk, but there was not any problem, except overcoming my own "shame".

Many years ago I had an appointment with a specialist about my Migraines. I was expecting him to examine my head but of course he asked me to take off my shoes and socks. Which revealed my bright pink nail polish, lol. He didn't say anything but I could tell he was amused.

I had a similar event in a docors office some months ago. All you can do, as you say, is own it. In the end its usually a non event. Funny, I go out fully dressed without batting an eye. I push the boundaries of androgyny in drab. Yet I find it oddly disconcerting to be spotted in drab with a dead giveaway like colored nails. I will have to have some more coffee and ponder that...lol

Actually, looking at the positive, if you think about it, your experience is far preferable, than say, than if you would have had to expose your feet and toes that were unkempt, with overgrown, yellow toenails, ingrown nails, athletes foot or some other fungus, huge cracking callouses, etc. At least, it appears, that you take regular care of your feet.

We just never know when we will come face to face with reality. My very first time buying shoes in public, an SA just walked up as I was trying on a 5" clog and asked if they were for me...I was in male mode.

When we put ourselves in a position to be outed in some way, we need to be ready to own it, just as the OP says!

Not the first time I'm been caught by a doctor. The first time was my FP, and my nails were some shade of red. I knew she would ask me to take my shoes and socks off, and was ready for it.

The second time was right after Christmas. That time my nails were "candy cane", white with red diagonal stripes. It was the first time that particular doctor had me take my shoes off.

Neither of them know about my dual sided nature. But my Internest and Neuro-Psych know about both me and Steffi. The have both seen my painted toe nails, including the hot pink that I really love. I've even dressed for a couple of appointments with my neuro-psych. When I went for my appointment dressed a couple of weeks ago, I passed a note to the receptionist to call me Steffi, and they did.

Back in 2002 my wife and I went to Las Vegas for our first vacation where I would go out en femme. Before that we had a couple of other things planned, one of them being getting manicures and pedicures. I didn't get color on my finger nails but my toes were done up with OPI's "I'm really not a waitress" red. After that we had two other stops where my toes were exposed since I was wearing sandals. Not a problem, but I didn't want to take the polish off after the trip and planned to keep it for a couple of weeks. Shortly after we returned I had an appointment with a specialist who was going to look at my hand eczema. After looking at my hands he told me that it was common for the disease to show up on the feet as well and wanted to examine mine. Big sigh before I started to unlace my shoes and then I explained I'd just gotten back from Las Vegas and was saving the pedicure for Halloween. Neither the doctor or his assistant really cared, but I was a little out of sorts for a while.

Not the doctor, but my personal trainer. She had me take off my shoes and socks for a weigh in. Didn't say a word, even though my pedi looked way overdue for a new one.

Two days ago, I was doing some cross border crossdress shopping, for shoes, actually. Btw, I did really well! Three killer pairs for under $100. On my return, the female customs official asked me the usual types of questions. I told her I had been shopping.

"Why go all the way down there just to shop?"
"Well there isn't much selection in my size up here"
"What were you shopping for, anyway?"
"Shoes"
"What kind? Runners or what? "
At this point, I couldn't evade and they can smell a lie miles away, so it's time to own it.
"High heels, actually"
"Ok, goodbye."

Most people really don't take much notice, so why not get out there and have fun, right?
