I am a vietnam Veteran. I have been cleared to start hormones from my heart doctor and been approved by my shrink that I am a ready for transition M2F. Last time I met with my endo (ObGyn) she told me she would have to give me a complete physical.
For those that use the VA and maybe others, what does complete physical consists of in order to start HRT?

It will be first a medical history looking for any contraindications to HRT regardless of what the other doctors have said. That will be followed by a review of your general health system by system getting all your allergies, illnesses, surgeries, family history of illnesses etc. the physical exam will be HEENT, listening to lungs, heart, abdomen. Some degree of neurological exam. Palpation of abdomen and maybe genitalia. Not sure if there will be a rectal exam. Because you are in the VA system much of the first part of this will be in your record so may be just quickly reviewed with you. Good luck!

I'm going through the VA as well. The endocrinologist just listened to my heart and lungs. He had a letter from my cardiologist and THE letter from the psychiatrist.
Be sure to request a gender therapist upfront. I tried 3 non VA therapists and got nowhere. I'm now seeing one through the VA.
Hugs,
Leah

The VA cardiologist has cleared me and the VA psychiatrist (gender therapist specalist) has approved. All in my VA records.
I also need 2 cataracts fixed. I am having that done outside the VA as the VA is booked until next year; I got Medicare. Being as Medicare is suppose to start paying for gender surgery on a case by case basis maybe I could luck out.
