View Full Version : Evaluating a new home for dressing purposes...

My wife and I recently purchased a new home...our first in many years. As we were viewing the house and making our decision, we had a few funny moments where we had to discretely talk about our little "sacred secret" in such a way as to not tip off the real estate agent or our children:
Real Estate Agent: This home has a massive walk-in closet.
Wife: Yes, that is certainly a huge closet...it almost looks like it could accommodate two separate wardrobes. Does it have a power outlet inside?
Real Estate Agent: Notice the back yard, it has almost total privacy (surrounded by forest on three sides)
Wife: Yes, I love it. You could walk outside in a nightgown or less and no one would see you...(she turned to me and winked)
Real Estate Agent: This area is almost completely dark at night.
Me: Great, it should make coming and going very private. I love to take walks at night.
BTW, I was wearing a full-boned corset and stockings underneath my man clothes during the walk-thru...he he. Since moving in, we have converted a section of my wife's walk-in closet into Mandy's own little transformation studio... make-up table, good lighting, racks of lingerie and clothing, and a wig shelf...all secured by a lockable bedroom door and closet door. (always have two layers of security) The place also has a very private master bathroom near the closet...perfect for shaving, pre-dressing shower, etc. I have yet to use this space but am hoping for some girl time and a nice walk outside this weekend.

Very smart to take your CDing into consideration. It's just one of many factors to consider, but ignore it now and you may regret it later.

Our house has not one, but two huge walk-in closets. It's a CDs dream come true. It's still too easy to fill up all the available space, though. :)

Mandy I still have this bridge to cross ! My wife wishes to down size and thinks I'm being difficult for not discussing it, but I have to bring up the subject of where does Teresa fit in ? Maybe she thinks I will dump everything, she must realise the subject has to be talked through !

Great post! When we move, I will definitely keep these pointers in mind.

Interesting to read your post as I am currently house hunting. Closet space is certainly high on the list but my number 1 priority is a deck or patio that is not visible to neighbors.

Great place.... I'd then check the neighbors.... any race car mechanics or beer cans in the front yard? That'll make or break my sale.... it's still location, location, location and then the walk-in closet...
Then I try to check on the local officials to see if their crazy enough to put a supermarket behind me in the future or don't know how to balance a budget.... details...

There have been a number of instances of people buying homes for dressing purposes.
Some of the specifications have been quite original.
High fences, spas, large closets, isolation and privacy rank high.
I wonder why? :)

Wow, that sounds like an awesome house. I would totally go for it! Sounds like a very "CDing friendly" property!
Your post reminds me of a recent conversation with the homeowner next door to us. His renters just moved out and he's doing some remodeling inside and out and he says to my wife and me when we were doing some front yard work together, that he would like to take down or lower the current high fence between our driveways and would that be ok? My wife and I both looked at each other and both said .. "err no ... we both like the high fence between our properties". He didn't question why, but obviously from my point of view, and especially if his tenants are in their front yard all the time like the last ones were, me leaving our house, walking the driveway and getting is the car would be way better if there's a big fence to prevent people speaking or easily looking at me close up.

It was a major consideration when we bought our house. 7 acres
and nobody can even see my backyard...then there's 200 acres of woods
back here.
I can mow the lawn dressed up if i want to. And I Do sometimes! lol!

Aside for having space for private activities you are totally right. Always check out the neighbors and zoning codes and available space for future development. I would also recommend checking out the locale at different times of the day and different days. Crazies may be at work during the day. Had I know of the person who resided across from me before buying I would have never bought our house. Fortunately she moved, but, my wife's anxiety did not go away until her obituary appeared in the newspaper.

New house update:
Love the huge walk in closet...I finally had the chance to use my "studio" last night. However, because my kids stayed up later than usual, I had to confine myself to the closet and our master bedroom for about three hours while my wife fell asleep with then out on the couch about 20 steps outside the locked door. So, here I was, dressed to the nines, locked in our bedroom, staring at the walls. In the wee hours, I snuck out of my prison, passed all who were asleep in the living room adjacent to rhe master suite and went outside for a drink under the full moon. Finally made it back to the master bedroom and fell asleep in full femme mode with door locked (so I thought) sometime around dawn, I jumped out of bed to the sound of my youngest peaking at me through our door. I quickly pulled the covers over me and later sneaked to our master bath to get showered. BTW, this is the third time I have ever been caught by one of my children...I definitely need to be more carefull because I am running out of ways to explain to him what he saw...he bought my explanation a final time (he had not fully awaked yet and was still dreaming..;)
