Just curious to see how many are exservice or still serving
and how did you deal with your fem feelings during that time.
I'm ex Royal Navy and privacy while at sea is non existant.
still had the feelings just supressed them outwardly.
felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders after my 12 year stint.

probably felt like William Wallace crying FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM

Yep, unusually I have served in both the army and the navy..
Military police for seven years then navy diver for five.
Back then there was little or no compulsion to dress and I kept it easily surpressed.

I did three years in the army during the Vietnam war. Thankfully, I never left the United States. I considered making a career of it, but ultimately decided it wasn't for me. I shut down the girl inside, and quit listening to her. That's probably one of the things that caused me to go for a different career. Despite the testosterone rich environment, I still acted and felt more female than male. This made for some uncomfortable situations. But that was a long time ago.

Ex RNZAF (avionics tech), still remember fondly every nut, bolt and transistor on the old birds. Loved bush survival courses & combat drills (still do paint ball & airsoft with better than average kill rates) - really hated marching.
I often wore leotards & leggings (it was the early 80s after all and it looked good on Jane Fonda and the Aerobic Aussie Style girls) under my normal clothes.

Hi Willow

Did 25 years in the US Army, 4 years active and 21 years Reserve. I do believe serving repressed my urges. Early on I had a GF and we had a magical few weeks where she encouraged my dressing, but then she left. I was really hurt and thought for many years--incorrectly as I later learned--that the dressing was a root cause. Dabbled a bit over the next decade, including one time when I actually shaved my legs. This was a big deal because in the Army, Physical Training (PT) was routine and mostly done in shorts, no matter what the temperature. When I finally retired after 25 years, I do think the leg shaving thing led to a blossoming in my CD activities.

Thanks to all fellow members who have served.

I was Air Force during the Vietnam War. Didn't want to go in and was always only thinking about getting out, esp. when I learned the war was a racket. So I was pre-occupied for that one year seeking an out. Actually for half a year. It took the second half year to process out. I got out way early. (By the way, some call it the disservice. Si?).

Two years in the US Army during the Viet Nam War. Served in the infantry in Nam. Had an abbreviated tour courtesy of a booby trap (IED to you new guys). Had absolutely no cross dressing desires while in the military. Training (basic & AIT) and a tour left no time for thoughts of sex. Exhaustion ruled.

I was a reservist in the infantry for seven years. I never mixed dressing. If anything it was an attempt to suppress it. I was a poor soldier but then none of us were well particularly well trained. The regular army referred to us scathingly as 'sandbags'.

I had hoped for a career in the military, pilot or something in military aviation. But it was not to be and in truth I would probably have washed out assuming they were ever foolish enough to let me join!

20+ years US Navy, active and reserves. Yes, I wanted to dress but it was never an option on the ship. When I was at home was another matter but this was before the internet and information and clothing was hard to come by.

I do remember being very jealous of the women being able to wear skirts, heels & hose and I couldn't.

The only time I mixed the two was to under-dress on my very last day before retirement.

USAF stateside '73-'74, SAC ICBM (Minuteman II) support base. Medical Supply, and we handled the laundering of the nurse's uniforms. Sometimes they had their intimates mixed in, too.

In addition to uniforms, I had access to brassieres, panties, slips, and girdles. Purchased low-heeled white pumps and white panty hose to complete my look.

During locker inspections in our dorms, I was a tad nervous... but I'm pretty sure they just thought I was dating a co-worker! :battingeyelashes:

US. Army 2003-2011 with three tours to OIF. Dressed before I joined and after basic and my first phase of AIT, I slowly dressed (mainly underdressed when possible). Now that I'm out of the military, I dress when its possible.

The greatest moment in my time in the Army was when we returned from Iraq and landed for a layover in Bangor, Maine. The local VFW and American Legion were there to greet us. When I saw the vets with Vietnam hats, the tears started because I remember reading how they were treated. I made it a point to thank them for what they went through after coming home.

USMC 83-97. Now I am in the Air National Guard.

Up until about 7 years ago I cannot say I ever felt the desire to dress. I would look at and admire women for all of the obvious male reasons. Part of me though has always felt envious and I never really knew why. Then the realization dawned on me. I felt thrilled at the thought of dressing up. (Heels. My weakness is heels.) Once I started dressing it felt so natural and it has been quite a release over the past few years.

I would also like to say thank you for supporting your country, your people, and your communities. No matter where you are from.
You are all to be saluted. Nobody, and I mean nobody prays harder for peace than the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the world.

US Army Intel 65-69. Had urges throughout. Was stationed in Germany. For a short, brief, shining moment had a small flat "on the economy" and was able to CD - inside it, of course. However, my concern about an alert being called and one of the other members of the Dienststelle coming over to get me for the alert caused me not to enjoy it. I gave up the flat because of that concern and returned to our place.

Even today, CDing is not permitted in the military and would be cause for immediate discharge, general if you're lucky. I'm hoping the policy changes - since they now allow Ls and Gs - but am not hopeful of such a change any time soon. Unless, of course, someone convinces the Leader that a well-timed change in policy would be politically and financially beneficial to the Party. Then it could happen overnight - we all saw that movie in May 2012 when gay marriage was suddenly OK with him and the funds instantly poured in from the LGBT community. But we're just a tiny and near voiceless fraction tacked on to the a??end of that community. Not sanguine about change.

Are you sure, Jeninus? I haven't really heard much said about it recently, and I didn't think crossdressing would matter too much anymore. I know ts will get you discharged, though. Medical, I think?

Yes, Rose, I'm sure. Transgenderism is considered by the DOD to be a form of mental illness and was not covered by the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell in 2010. That is why I recommended last year to one of our members who wanted to CD very close to his base to be very, very cautious. The latest word is that on May 11, 2014 Chuck Hagel stated that he believes the military ban on TG service members should be reviewed. This followed a board study this Spring and their recommendation that TG no longer be considered a mental illness disqualifying service. It estimated that there are "approximately" 15,450 (more or less?) serving members who are TG and that only "about" 230 of them a year would seek SRS at $30,000 a pop. [Were do they get these precise figures?] They also mentioned that allowing TG members to serve without fear of discharge might prevent more Chelsea Mannings from emerging.

I'm using TG here as the umbrella term that encompasses CD and transvestic fetishism through TS - generally gender identity dysphoria. As far as I am aware, that is how the DOD sees it. The Hagel article is at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/11/chuck-hagel-military-transgender-ban_n_5305291.html The article about the study is at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/13/transgender-troop-ban_n_4956528.html

So, Hagel recommended review. We all know how long that will take unless Fearless Leader steps up.

It is odd how two countries so close to one another can have such opposing policy in the military. In Canada TG expression is protected by policy within the Canadian military.

Jeninus, I found current Navy policy documents that basically say that there is no official policy on crossdressing, as long as it isn't done in connection with the Navy (not seen leaving the ship in drag, or on social media where the person's affiliation with the Navy is shown alongside crossdressing photos, etc). I'm not sure what that means for the rest of the DoD. It might be commander's discretion. I do know that a whole group of guys went bar crawling in drag up here not long ago for laughs, and nothing came of it. Of course, they weren't regular crossdressers, just drunk guys screwing around.

Jeninus
08-13-2014, 01:09 PM
Rose, I think you may well be right that at the base level it could be commander's discretion. Take it from me though, as both ex-Intel and a lawyer, discretion is frightening power. All that's needed is command change or an incident arising that forces the commander not to look the other way. Regular CD/TG people in my opinion are on thin ice until DOD changes the regulations.

As an Intel guy, one small part of my duties involved doing background investigations of those requiring above Confidential clearance. It is probably still the rule that any person violative of the regulations regarding TG would be denied the clearance and that investigation would probably lead to a recommendation the subject be investigated further for discharge from the service. Again, I cannot emphasize enough that discretion is all-important until the regs change. Stay in the closet! I see that at least one other member was also Intel, and would like to see that person's opinion as this is important to our serving members. I was Army, bad enough, but ONI was even more strict in my time.

Here is a link to the book on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5CXCLY/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o07_?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Please allow me to share a profound moment from this afternoon. I am a child of the 60's & , back then , it seemed like all of the men were WW. II veterans. The world was a safer place because of their heroics. The number of WW II veterans has dramatically shrunk & with the demise in numbers, goes great strength. Today I happened upon a 92 year old man , escorted in his wheel chair , who proudly wore his Army infantry hat with dates of 1941--1945. We chatted for a while, he told me that he landed at Normandy in the second day assault & that his legs suffered serious shrapnel wounds. I listened to him with my ears & heart. My eyes watered in respect for this hero... And many of his colleagues. They were truly the greatest generation . I thank God for the honor of meeting this man & giving him a hug . Seeing him again reinforced how grateful we need to be for our freedom ; thanks to all of those who served in the military.

Retired Air Force 20 years. On very rare occasion did wear something after getting married. One time even got caught by the security police. Thought for sure my career was over but nothing happened. Got caught by my daughters when living in New York. After retiring took a position with the Army in the Atlanta area. After my divorce in 2000 (was not crossdressing no place to hide anything) I then started buying things. Between 2000 and 2004 purged everything twice but not again. Too much invested in everything. March 2004 found a Tri Ess support group in the Atlanta area and joined. Decided January 2014 that it was time to walk away from the support group. At times I do miss it but not enough to renew my membership. Both my daughters know as well as my sister. According to my youngest daughter my ex-wife suspects I am a crossdresser. My daughter's answer to her mother was "that is something you have to talk with dad about. I can't help you." Accepted this part of me and am content the way things are. Not going any further than going out crossdressed on occasion. I plan on visiting the hotel were the Southern Comfort Conference is being held this week in Atlanta. The Crown Plaza Ravina.

Only one year, training accident, then elected to go into the inactive reserves. No combat, thankfully, this was back in the 80's. Field artillery, FO. 8" Battalion. 3 battalion rounds (10-14 each) of these things on a site of 'extreme interest'- good grief! To my knowledge, the 8" rounds (203mm) are not even used anymore. Can't say i blame them for retiring them... seems like a bit of overkill, especially with the accuracy even back then...

A little rough for the TG in me, one of the few times i can honestly say i would not have preferred doing what i did as a female. it just didn't matter- you were out there going crazy between fear of calling the rounds in on yourself, and having a hell of a lot of fun when you knew you were okay...

my wife's friend was in ROTC when they were in college, he's retiring as an O-5 soon, real decent guy, mostly logistics, but still a little miffed that I (and my wife, who was never in, but would have been brilliant) can still out-PT, out-land-nav, out-(subject not allowed), him... but it's fun and friendly. He's always off somewhere, and he and his wife need a place they can come back to and relax, they come over for dinner and usually fall asleep watching tv: we cover them in blankets and let them sleep.

It's a little thing, but it feels good to support our military friends, and there is a significant connection/understanding, having shared the life, if only for a short time. It's a very good thing.

USNR served on board an ammo ship, in the pacific, running ammo to the fleet. Got out of service just before Nam went full blown so missed any war time service.
As far as dressing, of course not, I went into the service as a "cure" to cross dressing, I was going to be a man's man! Got out and with in a couple of years was back to dressing, maybe I should have stayed in, I thought the cure was working. Let's just say I've (probably) over-compensated just a wee bit for my T-Girl'ness.

I might be inclined to say more later if this thread is still going, after 0001hrs on 1 Feb 15, when my "federal sentence" of 27 yrs, 00 mo's and 10 days will have been completed.

So I am not an "Ex".........just yet.

My "getting out of jail" ceremony is only two weeks away, and now that I have finally "grown up" I need to figure out what heck I want to be for another 15 years or so, and try to find a way to have Sarah more apart of my life now. So nobody pls tell me (jokingly I know) why don't I try to now "Be All That I Can Be" in my next life.......however, the "Be All" is definatly something on Sarah's bucket list that I want to attend one year.

I've always been about the mission and my work coming first. So, any dressing for me has always been limited to my off time, and like many here have already said,.....our collective work is so busy & tiresome at times, that finding the time to even think about, let alone actually having the time/opportunity to dress often, while at work has been almost non-existent for me.

I've always lived on the economy, so privacy issues were never really much of a concern for me, and again, I purposely committed myself to never mixing business with pleasure during my career, except that I can say that due to my numerous "business trips" (I travel for work a lot!) and my travel per-diem savings, these situations have certainly provided Sarah with the opportunity to do lots of great shopping in many of our nation's, and some of the worlds, leading cities!

Seriously though, its been a wonderful adventure & life, and I have to this very day, no complaints about it.

U. S. Army 1963 - 1985 Two all expense paid vacations to Vietnam. (1966-67 and 1968-69) No place to keep things in the barracks, so it was thrift shop junk at a motel, then trash it all. Got married in 1975. Told my wife and have been in panties since. When the girls got married, I was in a dress right after I got home. Been married 39 years.

US Navy active duty 1986-88 and reserve 88-94. During that time I did not think of dressing. I went on a 20 year hiatus after my teen years. I was more into sailing (owned a small sailboat), drinking with buddies, and chasing women.

USN joined to try to find the man in me you know what's more manly than the military, sure were a lot men just like me. Just served to confuse me more.
But I am proud to have served my country.

1963-1967 U S Navy musician (piccolo/flute/tenor sax - MU-2
1967-1975 US Navy Reserves - Reenlistment and Retention petty officer (NRSD 5-5) and riot control sharpshooter TAD (SAM&R 5-3)-Did not reenlist in reserves in 1975 because they started messing up my pay when I was TAD with a SAM&R unit (for riot control training) and was not being credited for drill time, and passed the exam for E-6 the third time, but was passed over for advancement again because I was not active duty

Never thought about dressing until 2005, when I had to be an "over the top" drag queen as a musician in Cabaret. I guess I'm another late bloomer.

I am astounded at how many Vietnam-era people there are on here. Funny - I joined the Navy to avoid being shot at, but got to enjoy that privilege in downtown Baltimore when they decided to riot after MLK was assassinated.

My active duty retirement was effective at midnight last night, so I have only been a retiree for 12 hrs and 50 minutes. All together it has been 27 yrs. (with not even 1 single day of lost time at that) between being in two different branches of the U.S Armed Forces.

I had a few years active US Air Force and stationed in the UK. I was able to limit my dressing to weekends and off duty hours. After that I was US Army and Air Guard. Dressing wasn't an issue till an email I sent at my civilian job found its way to my 1st Sgt. His only question was "is my wife's underware drawer safe?" I never heard another word about it. I'm now retired after 22 years.

20 years USAF, with a six month TDY to Viet Nam '67-'68. Got home a few days before the TET offensive. No real interest in CD until perhaps '77, then sporadic afterwards. Now I wear pantyhose as an underlayer in cold weather, and my wife knows about it. I also regularly wear knee-highs as socks, because I have grown to hate thick socks and they are the thinnest I can find.

US Navy, enlisted as a data systems technician and petty officer, shortly after Vietnam. But I really didn't like living in close quarters with lots of guys, and got out again as soon as I possibly could. At the time I wasn't cross dressing at all, and didn't have any strong 'feminine' urges, but knew I had bisexual inclinations and I was trying very hard to deny my bisexuality and play it straight. Yet thinking back on it, my feelings at the time were almost what I would expect of a girl who was forced to live in close confines with a bunch of guys, while trying to masquerade as a guy and not get caught! I'd tried on women's clothes when younger, in secret, but wasn't doing that at all by the time I enlisted. But it just felt 'wrong' for me to be showering and undressing with other guys.

Navy, NROTC 73-77, Nuclear submarines, officer, 78-85.
300 days at sea or foreign ports the first year ... our fast attack boat had the newest stuff and we were the Lant fleet's new toy.
Be assured ... in those days if the bad guys had ever considered opening a missile hatch ... they never would have got one off.
How simple it was back then ... there were the bad guys and us guys. KaCfC.
And then we won the Cold War, I got out because I thought it was all over, and since then it has all gone to such a confusing place.
These days, I fear for our kids in uniform ... that what they do will not be wasted. It is such a sacrifice ... sometimes the ultimate.
Someone said they sweated clearances ... I can relate. I had to dress occasionally, but it was always in fear and under immense control to be sure I could not be found out.

My first post here. Hello everyone! USAF '75 to'81 didn't dare to dress while on active duty. Things my be different now. Anything different was very much frowned upon back then. (if you know what i mean!)

P.S. Love this site!!

US Marine Infantry Veteran. 1982 to 1986. Went cold turkey in boot camp for 4 straight years. It was "Don't tell, Don't tell," not even "Don't ask, Don't tell." The absolute *LAST* thing you would want is that info getting out. The only thing worse was a child molester. Well, actually, it was about equal hate towards both.

US Army 05-09, didn't dress at all and held it in until I got a place off post, then I only had my underwear stash that I would wear when my roommate was away for the weekend.

US Airforce, jet engine repair technician. Dressed when I could, that's why I got out. In the 1980's you would be imprisoned for such behavior. Today different story, let's say they did not ask so I did not tell.
