I decided to venture out of my hotel room and see the world as Harriet.

I got on the elevator to go to the parking garage and on the next floor an elderly couple gets on and the woman complements my hair. I think she wanted a response but I was too nervous to speak.

I drove to the mall and walked through JC Penney and Macys. No one noticed!

That was enough excitement for one day.

Maybe an other time...

Well Harriet it's a start and I'm sure took a lot of courage to do that! Glad you were able to do that.

I too used to have a difficult time in responding to people. I was afraid of my voice. I got over though and now interact quite normally with people.

Good for you for venturing out!

Thanks for all of the good comments. I will need to do this again at some point.

Hello Harriet, congrats on your venture into the public. Very nice presentation!
I never did enjoy being confined in a hotel room, so out I went! (and the economy didn't collapse)

We compliment each other. Men slam each other.
I have been in the same situation as you were in. Last time it was a middle age couple at Rio Vegas, in an elevator. She said that my mild-heeled open toe sandals looked very cool and comfy. I replied and we engaged in a conversation about wearing heels at work and everywhere. We continued all the way into the lobby. Her husband stepped away and we continued chatting. They were looking for a place to eat, I recommended several venues. She thanked me and rejoined her hubby.
She was very friendly, I was calm and comfortable about my presentation.
I think I was more amused at watching men eyes and how fast they looked us over as they passed us. Busted! lol!
I enjoy that minor self-conscious "do I look okay" feeling that brings on.

So Harriet, next time just softly say 'thank you'. It's easier than you think.

Hi Harriet,

Congrats on your first outing. You have learned what many have . . . for the most part our outings are a big non event. It only gets easier each time.

Hugs

Isha

Congratulations! That first step takes a lot of courage. A few years ago, I had a comedy of errors with a hotel outing. The "highlight" was as soon as my hotel door shut behind me, I realized I had forgotten my car keys. But my room key had chosen to demagnetize at just that moment, so I couldn't get back in the room. I had to walk down to the front desk en femme and ask them to fix the key. Of course, they needed to see a photo id before they would do it, so not only was I "outed" but the clerk knew exactly who I was. Fortunately, he didn't make a big deal of it. But, if they gave out Medals of Valor for crossdressing, I think I would have earned one that day.

congratulations on your first trip. I remember the first time I went out it was down by Indy I was going to my doctor anyway to get a check up to check that the mones were working And my levels were okay, anyway I went dressed with my wife and everything was fine.. Believe it or not it seems like no one was even looking at me, they were more interested everything that they were doing,, I soon relaxed and it was until I had to use the restroom kind of nervous going into the ladies room at the mall I couldn't believe the lines and was extremely nervous that I would get caught, all I can see is I was going to make the evening paper as some weirdo hiding out in the ladies room. Of course it went fine and then we were on our way home. It was like I just took my first big girl steps

Harriet, you look so pretty; I'm not surprised that your venture went well. I always enjoy my outings. One of my favorite times was trying on and buying several pairs of shoes. I think that the sales associate may have read me when she asked for my telephone number as I was checking out. She was still friendly towards me, so it only heightened my fun!
Love, Sabina

Thanks for the kind words. Getting out the door to where you know you will be seen was hard but I am glad I did.
