View Full Version : Just how long?

I know that this subject has been broached on here before but I want to put a bit of a spin on it. Many of us here are senior citizens and we love to CD. My question is just how long do we intend to do this? At 67 I still look fairly decent en femme (makeup works wonders :heehee:) and especially enjoy it when I go to the club to socialize and dance dressed up.We even have a few members who are 70 and beyond. I have wondered, however, if there will come a time when circumstances or health may limit or even eliminate my opportunity to dress en femme. Not that I constantly concern myself with it but I do wonder about it from time to time.
In view of that I had worked hard the last 15 or so years to get in touch will all of my feelings and make them mine. This has made it possible for me to express those feelings regardless of mode and I've also realized that my Rich side is appreciated and loved(especially by family) for who he is as a man. Funny, I used to fight those "male" feelings but now I welcome them as being part of who I am as a full spectrum person. What this means is I can enjoy being myself in either mode and it's totally my choice how I want to present at any given time. That being the case if the time does ever come to curtail my dressing it won't be a big deal or a huge shock and won't depress me. That is my "nest egg" for the future. At least I have a plan. Until that time comes, however, it's business as usual for Kate and I will be here for my friends as long as possible. :battingeyelashes::)

As I age, I'm buying more mature clothes and yes I am concerned about how long it will go on. Don't have an answer.

This is a question that I have pondered often. I have come to the conclusion that I will dress for as long as I can and for as long as I continue to enjoy it.

I like the way you think, Kate. I intend to keep dressing however I like for as long as I can. Someone please stop me if you see me go senile and start buying ugly clothes. LOL!

How long? That's a rather personal question, isn't it? Oh wait. I've been watching too much Python recently. :D
How long will I CD? As long as i can get away with it. If diagnosed with an incurable disease, after my goodbyes, i intend to trek out into a wilderness (badlands, banff, the Sierras, etc) in a safari type cotton blouse and skirt or dress and end my time going back to the earth, but dressed as i would like to be.
if I just get old, well, crossdressing has kept me in pretty good shape so far, i intend to keep it up as long as i can stand to look at myself in the mirror. if i die alone I'll probably be found crossdressed. C'est la vie, so to speak. Or perhaps c'est la morte?

How long is a piece of string?
I simply cannot predict where this will develop. I enjoy it very much and what happens down the road is Future Amanda's problem.

Only reading the title of this thread and not wanting to read the actual question, I wanted to reply: About 4 inches, sometimes a year or two.

Kate,
I love your philosophy and I share your feelings. The older I get, the more I feel in touch with me. As some elder Canadian friends of ours once said, "When you're over the hill you pick up speed!" I'd like to think that I'll make the most of the time I've got -- whether in male or female presentation. We've had other "elder" threads before, and I quite enjoy being treated as an older woman. I won't kid myself -- I'm probably past the bar and dance scene -- but there is so much else to enjoy while we can!

I know someone in their 90s and still enjoying the life. I reckon she'll continue even if they have to dress her should she ever end up in a 'home'.

Hi Kate,
As Isha is part of my identity I believe I will continue until I am too senile to know the difference and there is no family left to allow me to explore that side of me.
How long is a piece of string?
Hi Amanda . . . LOL as this brought back a memory when I was in Basic Training. My Drill Sergeant asked me that exact question "Private X . . . How long is a piece of string?" Being a bit of a smart a$$ I responded back "That's easy . . . twice as long as half of it" Needless to say he failed to get my sense of humour and I did a lot of pack parade that weekend. :)

Adriana . . . . LOL . . . Love it.

I just turned 65 a month or so back and I'm still buying new things to try on. So it's not anytime soon for me. I thought about your question for a little bit and tried to think of what kinds of events would make me stop dressing. Being in a body cast was the first one that came to mind. Being dead was the other one. Maybe if I went to prison or was hosptialized for an extended period I'd have to cut back some. But everything I came up with was something extreme and none of it had to do with age. Check with me when I'm 80 and I'll let you know how I'm doing.

I have a ways to go till retirement from work. But I do not foresee ever giving up on my need to dress. In fact, I hope to go something very close to full time once retired.

The older I get the less I dress.
I think it's where I live that has a lot to do with it, though.
That said, when I do get the chance to dress and go out on the town I enjoy it very much.
Cheryl is inside of me all of the time, anyway, so there's not a pressing need to "be seen" as it was when I first started to go out.
But if I lived in a different place I'd dress all of the time, I think.
Life is too short not to make the most of it.

Hi Kate, I'll be 72 in three months and dress at least once a day and have no problems with 4.5" heels.
There are a couple ladies here in their upper 80s' I hope to be one of them in a few years.
I may be in an old folks home someday wearing support hose, orthopedic shoes wearing my forms down around my waist.:daydreaming:

My question is just how long do we intend to do this?
Probably until either I find another girlfriend, or die. I don't go out, so I don't have to worry about how I will look to anyone else as I get older. AFter all, I'm over 50 and still dress like a girl in her early teens, so apparently appearance isn't a big concern, it's more I dress to feel comfortable in my own skin than anything else. So yeah, probably until I die. I'll probably drop dead in a cute cheerleader outfit, having a heart attack while watching a cheerleading competition.

At 66 I am still going strong, but parkinsons has limited the wearing of heels. It just takes me longer to dress, but it can be done if you are determined.

A few years ago, at one of the support group meetings in Amsterdam.. I met a crossdresser.. around 75 years old. She looked good and happy, she said she felt good... and she said that whatever it was that made her put on a dress early in her life.. it was still there. And she was still having fun doing it. :)
I hope that's where I'll be.. when I'm in that age category.. still having fun!
So probably (because nobody can predict the future).. I'll be doing this my whole life as it not some thing "you can get too old for"!

Somehow I had visions of myself sitting in a rocking chair with my purple hair in a bun knitting. I suppose there are a lot worse things. Thanks everyone for your comments and observations. I really learned a lot with this thread as I usually do. :battingeyelashes::)

Having just celebrated my 30th Annual 39th birthday a couple of weeks ago, I will try to be as concise as possible as there may not be much time left:
1. I am and always have been, me.
2. I like being me.
3. I intend to continue being me as long as I exist.

Although I very very infrequently see stylish old men I see stylish old women much more often. My SO is 70 and she dresses beautifully. I already look more like her younger sister than her husband and I expect, as I get older, to be wearing more dresses and more feminine clothes than I do now, if for no other reason than simple vanity. Until they develop high couture for old men (I'm looking at you, Giorgio) and I can afford it I'll dress fashionably in women's clothes. The way old men dress, if it were possible, is even worse than middle aged men dress. I won't even let them dress me like that when I'm dead.

When the group "Roxette" came out with their debut album in the 80's entitled "Look Sharp", there was a song on it entitled "Dress for success". I guess I more or less took that song to heart and here I am today. Music is a powerful mover. ;):)

I suppose that as long as I can breathe, walk on my own and take care of myself I'll just keep on being me.
That will be me too. It definately was my dad.
I'm pretty sure he didn't know I knew he dressed, but there were unmistakeable signs.
It appeared he continued to dress until he had a small stroke. The stroke only slightly affected his speech, but he fell and his neck was very sore, so the doctor had him on some pain meds for a couple weeks. The doctor made him use a walker because of the pain meds. My sisters looking after him wouldn't leave him alone after that even though he didn't need the walker after a couple weeks or anyone being there all the time. He passed away last winter at 104.
So your quote above exactly described my father until he was 102.

The way I figure it, Kate, makeup technology will just get better with time so I hope to keep it going for the foreseeable future, and the more things go south, the more creams/support wear will improve LOL!
