Hey ,

I have not started HRT but hopefully will soon. I am just wondering what was going through your mind when you took your first pill. Was it shock, relief, happiness? I am really curious as what mine will be like.

Curious

Took mine yesterday. Started crying...finally my journey had begun. Good luck on yours.

My first feelings were fear and relief.

I felt fear because I take very few medications, and I've never been on a long-term medication regiment like this before. I am scared of medicine and medical procedures.

I felt relief because finally I was going to start making my body congruent with my mind.

Just before starting on Estradiol patches I was reading Joy Ladin's book, Through the Door of Life: A Jewish Journey Between Genders.

She wrote, "Every day I say a blessing in Hebrew over my medication: "Blessed are You, O Lord our God, who has kept us, preserved us, and brought to this time." That blessing is traditionally said at the beginnings of holidays, on the eating of new kinds of fruit, and at any joyous occcasion at which Jews want to heighten their sense of gratitude by becoming mindful of the singularity of the moment and the precariousness of the lives that have brought us to it."

I was deeply moved by what she wrote and so, as I placed my own first patch, I followed her example and recited the same Blessing.

Then I thought, "Wow! Sticking something onto your body is a weird way to feminize!"

Hugs,
Persephone.

As I was preparing to put my very first patch of Sammy Davis's song went through my head," I gotta be me, I gotta be me". Put a big smile on my face and slapped the very first on my body with no fan fare, just a lot of joy.

Mine was the the Beatles " I'll get by with a little help from my friends". I do vividly remember the first time I didn't have a drink handy to IMMEDIATELY wash down the spironolactone....YUCK! :puke: And I view my weekly EV shot as one little "prick" to make another "prick" little. :heehee:

All in a milli-second, I asked myself if this was right, and answered correctly, 'Yes'. I wasn't scared, or elated, it was more like 'Finally!'.

It was happiness for me. I knew what my path needed to be and this was a step that was taking me that way.

Angela, we know taste comes from taste buds on the tongue and the sense of smell which you get through the roof of your mouth. The patch goes on the inside of your cheek to avoid these. It makes it easier to lick an ice cream cone if it isn't on your tongue also.

I see. They gave me suppositories once, and they were huge damn hard to swallow.

And for all the good they did i could have been sticking them up my rear.

Then I thought, "Wow! Sticking something onto your body is a weird way to feminize!"

You mean like shapewear, heels, push-up bras, nail color, fashionable clothing, and jewelry?

Remember to hide the elf ears that HRT will give you.

I had almost no reaction at all. It was already a done deal by the time I got the meds.

Angela, you probably didn't think of this, but you can stick those suppositories up your nose or in your ear, too. Now I suppose if you stick one in your ear you can tell people it is some sort of earpiece for your phone or something. If you stick it in your nose, people will just have to think you're a little ... odd or something ...

Maybe they need to come up with the vapor version of the meds for the e-cigarette smoking types? You could have a lot of stealth fun with the "second hand vapor," too!
