Sometimes old memories just pop up, and here's a recent one

A few weeks ago, I spent most of the day out and about in Alexandria, Virginia, fully en femme, with two friends, a CD and her SO.

We wandered around Old Town, went shopping, had two meals out, took pictures, etc.

We also went shopping at a wig store, and we tried on some wigs.

What I remembered, is that I first discovered that wig store in the fall of 2003. I remember exactly, because as a requirement of my M.S. in electrical engineering, I had to make a presentation to a group of professors in lieu of a thesis. I had taken the Metro down, and walked from the Metro station to the school, right past the wig shop. At that time, I was afraid to even stop at the wig shop and look through the window, afraid that someone would see me and figure out what was going on in my head. The most I could do was a couple of side-wards glances.

And now, 11 years later, I'm going in en femme to try on and possibly buy a wig. Who'd of thunk it! It just makes me so happy that I've been able to come so far. It's a wonderful life!

Ye we do get bolder as time goes on. Many of us hit a wall though at some point. That wall may be self impose or imposed by family wishes. I told myself a long time ago that it doesn't matter what people think of me as long as they don't know me personally.

What a nice way to chart progress, Steffi - probably true for most of us just in different ways and different rates of progress...

I think it'd be shoe shops for me...

It's funny, how sometimes our progress is so slow, that we forget about just how far we've come. I'm happy that you had that realization moment!!! shopping for wigs is a blast, and I've only done it in male-mode, most recently with my wife when she wanted to turn me into a blonde for my birthday:-)

I see that you're in the DC area. Before I left there in 2009, I had found a CD/Trans support group through "Yahoo Groups". I don't know if they're still going, but you might want to try to look them up....At that time, we had a monthly get together in, I think in Fairfax, maybe Vienna? at a gay bar during their Drag Show night. T'was a hoot, and was great to spend an evening in total comfort and in the safety of numbers.

Best

Hi Steffi,

Not to promote tobacco products, but "You've come a long way. Baby!" Sounds like a wonderful day. I've found that the owners of wig shops are most considerate and helpful to us. You must show us what style you finally went with!

Hugs,

Claire

Congrats Steffi!! Nice to hear how far you have come, I'm sure just a little at a time. I think over time you take so many little steps that you don't even realize you are moving. Of course there are the giant steps that we all focus on, such as your first time outside or revealing your femme side to family or friends. Sometimes I think we forget the little steps, whether it be leg shaving, pedicure or practicing makeup technique behind closed doors, that add up and bring us to the big steps.

Sorry Jaye, just saw your post and didn't realize you already said the same thing.

Jaye

I was in a yahoo group around that time, and did go out with them occasionally, but it had to be when they were going out and my wife was out of town on a weekend, kind of a rare alignment of the stars.

That yahoo group was disbanded and supplanted by a meetup group. We used to meet at someone's house, but we outgrew her house. Last Saturday we met at a pretty empty hotel lounge. I didn't get an accurate count, but there were about 50 girls there, including a spouse or 2 and 4 GG's that just like hanging out with us.

Pretty amazing to be out in the local area with sooo many girls.
