Hi all, hopefully I'm ok posting this here, as it seems the right place for my question. I identify myself as a crossdresser at the moment but still somewhat skeptical on whether I am a TS or not. But anyway, my question is this. When you did make the transition to either RLE or got surgery and everything, did you still continue to use your birth last name? I'm assuming you came up with a name more fitting of your gender status, just was curious to everyone in here if you changed your last name as well or kept your birth name?

I wanted a clean break and also wanted to be discrete about my transition - especially in the early days - so I changed all of my names.

Unfortunately for me, the discretion only lasted until someone saw me coming out of the town hall and called the press. I was then pages 1, 3, 5 & 7 in the local paper. They sold the story to a scum tabloid and after that it went viral on the net.

I changed both. Mostly to avoid family issues, but yeah also to have a clean break and new beginning. Besides the old last name didn't go well with my new first and middle names.

I only changed my first name, and middle names. My transition was quite public, so I had no reason to hide. For unknown reasons, I never really thought about changing my last name. It has suited me well over the years, even tho' nobody can spell it.

I am transitioning in place with a lot of family support. It didn't make sense to change it for me nor did I want to.

My original first name is sometimes given to women, but I wanted a name that was unambiguously female. I chose a new first name, bumped my original first name to the middle, dropped my original middle name as it was unforgivingly male, and kept my last name.

Changing a last name is not possible where I live, unless your life is in danger.

I did not even change my first name legally until after SRS. I used an initial whenever I signed anything.

Also, people don't have middle names in my culture. There was only thing to change.

I have not legally made the change yet but------ I will be keeping the same first name that I have been using en femme for several years -----will be adding a middle name that is an old family name on my mothers side and keeping the same last name. I feel very comfortable with this arrangement.

Changed all, new first middle and last. I changed my last so my family had a buffer.

I changed all my names for personal reasons, nothing more to it. I did keep a small connection to my original family name with my new name, again for personal reasons.

I started hormones 14 months ago and about 4 months ago began to slowly move into RLE. I live as myself about 70% of the time and I'm quickly beginning to live full time into those remaining areas of my life. It gets easier after a while. I came out on my Facebook page today and was surprised by the support I got. I'm aiming for surgery in about a year. At first I thought of changing only my first name, but that did not feel right. So I've decided to change all of my names, and had the petition notarized yesterday. I want new names to reflect my new life. Good luck on your quest for self-understanding, Aubrey. Take your time.
