Last night I had a full on cross dressing dream. Until now my dreams about cross dressing were of the "anxiety" kind, such as visiting with friends and relatives and looking down and realising that you are only dressed in your feminine lingerie.

This one was quite different. I was out in public at a quirky book and music store. I was well dressed and feeling very comfortable. Strangely, after paying for something I dropped some change and on bending to pick it up I noticed that the change was in UK pence and not US cents. I put the change in my black purse and climbed the stairs to the book department only to find a very pleasant bar with a few customers. I decided that perhaps a drink would be good to have and was about to order when I awoke.

I'm sure that this is commonplace for many of you but for me it was a first. What was so memorable was that in my dream state I was completely relaxed and just going about my life normally but dressed. I was interacting comfortably with sales assistants and some ladies standing next to me at the counter.

Why is this the first time that I have dreamt like this? Freud, where are you?

I think you have just reached a point where you are comfortable.

In my case, I am a lucid dreamer - usually when I dream I am aware that it is a dream, and sometimes I take control of the dream. So when I find myself in a cross-dressing dream, I start off with a sense of anxiety and then tell myself that no one will notice, and then no one seems to notice. Then my anxiety leaves me.

I think dreaming dressed is part of our process. As Confusius mentioned.

Altho, I don't have coherent dreams. (They jump all over the place!) I never used to dream of dressing at all. Stressful or other wise. Now, I commonly find I'm dressed in dreams. What's odd is that no one else seems to notice. I suddenly notice it myself. It's more like a curiousity. "Oh, I'm wearing a dress." Then, the dream moves off in other directions.

I know but I'm not too sure of the symbolism yet. My subconscious is telling me something.

I'm crossdressed in all of my dreams. The other night I dreamed I was going someplace where I absolutely had to wear hot pants with fishnet stockings. But I couldn't find my fishnets anywhere, and spent most of the dream looking for them. The meaning of this dream is clear: keep your fishnets handy, because you never know when you'll need them!

I can't say as I ever dream of me dressed. However, the dreams I do remember are chaotic at best. I usually start out somewhere with someone I know and end up going elsewhere. Suddenly I am in a strange place, often alone, with no idea how I got there or how to get back to the people I somehow lost along the way. Oh well.

I have crossdressing dreams often. They usually involve friends who don't know.

Consuelo - can I say first of all I feel on honoured on behalf of the UK that you are dreaming about us, or at least our currency... :)

Dreams are often triggered by subliminal or subconscious connections that we're not aware of... visual things (like movies) can be very influential, and a number of movies do seem to feature the UK as a place of quirky book stores, pleasant bars and romance... 'Notting Hill' and '84 Charing Cross Road' to name a couple - perhaps you have seen something like this and this has come together with you feeling more comfortable and complete with a full presentation so much that you can imagine a less anxious situation...?

Being in the UK is a long way from home (safe from being recognised...) so would also be a comfort factor... You should just get over here, have that drink and finish the dream... you may even come across Hugh Grant in a book store... :)

I'm a casual, private cross dresser, but I've had a number of dreams where I'm out and about fully dressed and made up and beyond passable- I'm completely gorgeous. No idea if it means anything.

Dreams can be a very powerful "stimulate", as I've had several CD dreams where it took a few days for the experience to wear off. They felt so real that I woke up thinking that it happened. Even though I realize right away that it was a dream.

The "key" to your dream is what you "bought and paid for...." If you can think back, and come up with that detail.... perhaps some of us, on this site, can help you understand it better....

I was born in the UK and I worked a lot in London from 2001 to 2007. My favourite bookstore is Daunt's on Marylebone High Street. So that explains some of the ambiance of the dream.
Also I found the cross dressing scene in London to be very, very lively and open. Also, shopping in the Oxford Street and Regent Street stores for lovely feminine things was pure joy.

The part that surprised me is that for the first time in a dream I was fully dressed, quite relaxed and interacting with others with no sense of fear or embarrassment. Up until now, my cross dressing dreams always involved public embarrassment.

Your suggestion to take a trip is a good one. I think that being a cross dresser in the UK is easier than here in the US. Lots of support groups, clubs etc. I have come across many cross dressers in public there who are calmly going about their business in coffee shops, stores and airports. I know of no place in the US like the Canal Quarter in Manchester that caters for gays and cross dressers. One pub I visited there was full of cross dressers and upstairs the dance floor was crowded with cross dressers and partners dancing away. Everyone was very friendly too. Then there is the Philbeach Hotel in west London. Don't know if it is still there but I had some very adventuresome nights at the old "Phil",

Oopps! I think I have sown the seed of a new thread

Some people believe that every dream has an important meaning, others, not so much. I'm one of those in the middle; sometimes they're meaningful, sometimes, just random. But knowing which is which is another subject entirely!

I don't think dreams have a meaning but they seem to have a cause, but I don't know the cause (stress?). I wonder if non-crossdressers ever dream about crossdressing??? That would be strange. I have had many (6-8 that I can recall) dreams about crossdressing. In every case, something was amiss (pun intended): the door wouldn't lock, too many people around, no privacy, etc. In dreams without a crossdressing element, I often experience circular problems: problem A is solved by solution A, but introduces problem B which is solved by solution B, which re-introduces problem A, etc.
I have done many construction projects. I can't count the number of nails I've driven in my sleep. What have I got against sheep?

I often have dreams in which I am cross-dressed and nobody seems to be remotely bothered. It's usually me who is worried about it. But on reflection I realise there was no need to worry. These dreams I enjoy really and the good feeling lasts for a day or so.

More frequently I have dreams in which I cannot find my way back to somewhere, or to someone I have recently come from, e.g. my parked car or a particular room in a building or some address. So there is always a feeling of loss. This is quite distressing and I would like to know what it means, it's been happening in one form or another for many years. Like others, I sometimes realise that I am dreaming and if I am not happy or don't like the way it is going I am able to change my dream into a more
pleasant one. Weird eh?

Hugs

We crossdressers are all about change, aren't we? UK and US... so nearly the same, yet so totally different- can't spend either in the other country. The black purse could be the unconscious part of you where feelings are kept...

I know exactly what you experienced. I had one some time ago and one of the replies I got was that I had experienced an astral projection. While most of my dreams are when I dress up for bed (forms, night gown, etc) this one was one for the ages.

I had gone back in time and was looking in the makeup mirror. Looking back at me was a high school girl. From the next room I heard my mom calling me saying "honey, you're going to be late for school". I replied "mom, I'm almost done with my makeup". With my books in hand, I gave my long hair a final brush, a quick glance in the mirror to see that my outfit was just right and off we went........

That was a great dream.....

I agree. Dreams can be very meaningful or just an extension of conscious issues - indigestion, fears, whatever.
an example: an x of mine, contemplating breast feeding our baby, had a recurring dream of her mother, chasing her around the bed beating her with her own bra. Funny I'll grant but probably just means she was unsure of her ability to breast feed.

btw: she had no problem in that area.

renne: a most interesting dream to be sure.

What you need is a dreamy specialist.
That question is harder than "Why do I cross dress?"

Some of my dreams involve friends or family members (always females) helping me or encouraging me to dress up. Or just interacting with them while dressed. I am usually embarrassed in the dream that they know, but their acceptance in the dream is comforting.

Studies have shown that the majority of dreams that the general population have involves "anxiety" about something in their life and I guess we are not different in that respect .

Personally, there was period when I would have this recurring dream that I was" dressed" and discovered by some people but, they always acted like there nothing was out of the ordinary to see me in female clothes.
I would them be very elated .
However, a few minutes later, suddenly, I would always feel extremely self conscious and had to put on male clothes.

I have not had that dream in years though .

I had a dream one time where I got married to a beautiful woman, and when we met with friends afterward she introduced me as her wife. I actually woke up in an afterglow, and with the most intense feeling of love.

I have dreamt of shopping and dancing in girl mode on several occasions. Each dream was wonderful and left me wanting more each time I awoke.

Hmm I don't guess I have ever had a dream about dressing. Or at least I don't remember if I did. And that would be something I would remember. Lol

I've had quite a few dreams involving crossdressing and one very intense one where I was going through the process of transitioning. Most recently (2-3 weeks ago) I dreamed I was dressed in a white top, white skirt, heels and makeup and I was entering an office building. I don't pass and I guess I knew that in the dream as well. Anyway, I was about to go in when I realized I should enter through another door and possibly NOT meet anyone. Well, I went in and, of course, there were several people in the lobby and elevator. I guess I threw caution to the wind and walked in anyway. That's where the dream ended. Usually I remember dreams in fragments, but I this one I remembered mostly in full.
You're right. Where is Freud when we need him?

Countless times, though dreaming directly that I am a woman seems to come much more easily to me. Petticoated and/or silk dresses are a very common occurrence for me though. And then the next morning I check my hair and am pretty surprised.

It happened again last night. Toward the end of a very confused and complex dream I was standing in front of what appeared to be a bench in front of lockers at a changing room. I put on my white knickers and then pulled a very pretty and lacy white slip over my head. A man standing next to me complimented me on my choice and made a comment that while it was not everyone's choice, I showed good taste. Then he left. Weird!

I had a great crossdressing dream earlier this year when I was dressed completely as a Woman in front of some of my friends. I felt great and really confident as a Woman until I went to the ladies and I saw that my makeup was a little bit of a mess. Still a great dream though. Would love to go out dressed as a girl
