A few weeks ago someone told me that there is a drop down icon on your facebook settings that says "people that look like you".
She then said she was on her female FB page at the time and clicked on this apparent icon and her male FB picture came up as a match to her female picture. She said you have to search to find this icon but it is there. Could this be true? I have looked around on my page but can't find anything like this.
When I see her again I will ask more about this.

Perhaps it's an urban legend.

Perhaps it's an urban legend.

Yeah lets hope so, I'm sure its possible that it could be a monster that might be brought to life one day for everyday facebook use. I'm thinking if it is true you would need 2 close face shots so the computer could judge the distance between your eyes etc etc.. Then again if it happens or is true I won't be too shocked or amazed.

Well, there's this feature: https://www.facebook.com/help/187272841323203

I don't think you're supposed to see a 'tag suggestion' (i.e. a facial recognition match) of your male self for a picture of your female self (or vice versa) unless the one who's tagging is 'friends' with that particular profile, but that's something you can turn off apparently.

While Facial and voice recognition software has come a long way in the last few years, I doubt we are there yet. Not even at the NSA.

However I am still very conservative about letting pictures of myself out on the web. Someday facial recognition will probably get good enough to were even a bad photo can be enhanced enough to narrow down possible matches which could potentially lead to??? Probably nothing.......I agree with Beverley's comment why would anyone on there want to look at me????......... But I still play it conservatively........Until I retire from my day job anyway.....

Facebook is the one place I am not out, I never let a Jackie photo appear there if I canhelp it and I kill the tags if someone else posts a shot I am in. That's because my grandchildren are on Facebook and so far I am not out to them. I don't think anyway. They are so much into their own friends I doubt they would notice but I do have an agreement with my kids their parents to not shove Jackie into the grandchildren's faces.

I have posted group photos on facebook and had facebook automatically tag some of the people in the photos. That's a little wierd so it's possible they do have some sort of facial recognition software. Usually the people in the group are also "friends" so that narrows it down quite a bit.

FB's facial recognition algorithm is pretty good, but it's far from perfect. It regularly tags my daughter as my sister-in-law. It's based on basic bone structure points. If you've seen CSI you've seen the concept in action.
