View Full Version : So I Was At The Doctor...

So, I was at the doctor's office and I decided to ask about crossdressers. I was in all drab and they don't know I am a crossdresser. I said to the nurse, "I have heard it said that 1 in 10 men in the emergency room are wearing women's underwear. Is that true?" She responded dramatically, "Oh yes." I asked was it really that many and she affirmed it, however, she did not clearly prove to me that the statistic is accurate. She said that a lot of men wear them, even in the office (versus the ER). She said, "And pantyhose too! --I don't even wear pantyhose!" Then she told me a story about a big, burly man whom she gave a shot. She said he was wearing a pair of panties that matched some that she owned. She said she went home and threw her pair away. I never informed her that I was a CD. I did not laugh at the patients or react like those guys are weird. I focused on how amazed I was by how many. Could it be that 1 in 10 men are CDs? That blows my mind!

I asked her about how she reacts in such a situation. I also asked if they were trained to deal with it. She just said that they just act professionally. Later she added that she prefers having men in panties than having men with foreign objects stuck in their ... well, you know... I failed to ask how often that happens. I guess it is because I don't relate to that.

Of course she hasn't kept track of the numb ER of men, but clearly seeing men in panties, among other indicators of transgenderism, is apparently a common aspect of experience in both clinics and ERs. I had a friend who worked as an EMT who often shared stories of such observances. So could it be ten percent....sure.

An interesting story: perhaps I am reading more into it but I thought that throwing out of the "matching" panties suggests some level of intolerance.

Is there any data that would substantiate the 1 in 10 figure, or is there an original source for it?

If it's true that 1 in 10 are wearing women's underwear in emergency rooms then there must be much more than 1 in 10 who cross dress. Let's face it, many of us will never underdress or only do so occasionally. So based on what she's saying it must be much more!

Not sure I believe she really experiences 1 in 10 though. Year's ago, I dated a student nurse who worked for a couple of weeks in the emergency department of a busy hospital. While I remember her mentioning someone coming in who was wearing women's underwear (she said he looked like me!), she didn't say it was really common. However maybe it's more common in the US than the UK!

I have gone to the ER wearing panties under male clothes and have gone to the doctors office in girls jeans, a girl top, painted toes and finger nails and hello kitty panties, nothing was said about it at either place. What are they gonna say, anyway? And if they did, I'd say what I always say when someone asks about my choice of attire, I tell them I'm a crossdresser and leave it at that. If they don't like it then too bad.

All these little research tidbits we pick up over time go into the big mincer of life and come out as google statistics, daily.

I actually told my doctor I am Transgender / Cross dresser and I used to fear being busted under dressing and ending up in the emergency room but now I do not worry so much :)

I have started doing some looking around for statistics for the prevalence of crossdressing. So far, I have found the following link. Their numbers feel inaccurate. Just as 1 in 10 seems too high, 1 in 100000 americans seems too low. I find it interesting that their statistics globally roughly trend 3:1 M2F:F2M.

Well surely many men would put on male underwear for a visit to the doctor or hospital, so 10% may be an underestimate. I'd guess a quarter of guys at least have tried women's underwear on, and probably far more, so yeah- I totally believe it's pretty common.

Vive la difference!

Hmmm ... if the number is really 1 in 10, then think about that next time you're in a crowd. A movie theatre, let's say, where there are a couple of hundred people, half of them men. So that's 100 males, of which 10 might be wearing panties? Wow! And what about the crossdressers who never underdress, or who don't happen to be underdressed that day? I'd guess that most crossdressers, most of the time, aren't underdressed. That 10% number is seriously hard to believe.

I work with about 100 men and often wonder who the others are. It's quite fun in meetings picturing them in a wig and a dress. If only we had big enough balls (in our knickers, of course) to admit it to each other.......... (Sigh).
