I had dinner with my younger sister and brother in law this evening. When I arrived at their home, my sister was on the phone with our older sister, who, upon learning of my arrival, asked little sister if I'd told her my secret. She wouldn't reveal what it was, but certainly piqued little sister's curiosity. My little sister asked several times, but I managed to revert to our previous discussion.
Finally, after dinner, she was adamant that I tell her; did I have cancer, did I have another heart attack, was I gay? What was going on with me? When she started to cry, I knew I had to tell. No, not sick, not dying, not gay. I'm transgender. "Is that all it is?" And I've been on the hormones for 15 months, and working my way up to the big surgery. Yeah, so why couldn't you tell me this before?
Then a big hug and kiss, and she nearly shouted, "I have another big sister!"
My B.I.L. is a bit of a homophobe/transphobe. He hugged me, then said "You do make a pretty girl. You are prettier than (big sister)." They've seen some halloween photos. Lots more hugs and lots of questions, then finally time to go.
I love my family!
Hugs,
Leah
