I have noticed three different spellings being used for T Girls "Gurl" "Grrl" "Gyrl"
Maybe we could use the different spellings to describe the three varieties of T Girl
Girl likes Girls "Gurl"
Girl Likes Boys "Grrl"
Girl likes Both "Gyrl"
It Might Work !!!!!

The first time I ever saw the Grrl version, Sara Pezzini (Witchblade) was wearing a T-Shirt with it on it in a comic book.:)

Interesting thought. Seems to separate gender identity from sexual preference. Well, even if these were adopted, I'd think they would be most useful in posting on sites where one would look for a date. Me, I'm happy with "Girl".

I know alot of girls are offended by the term gurl.......not me.....I pick my battles wisely and fight the good fights......to me the different spellings are like rap music....nobody ever spells anything right in rap, and its done for effect.......it just makes it fun........im sure nobody agrees though and thats ok

Heck, people can't even use two, to, or too correctly, not to mention there, their, and they're!

You're right Donna. Some people's speling makes no whatsenseoever  The op has a good suggestion, but getting the 'word' out may take some time. Not sure if it's doable. (do able?...do-able?)

To me, those alternative spellings of girl add a little extra touch of spice, a bit of whimsy and fun, and suggest that the person being described is a special kind of girl with a little extra something to offer. That's us, right?
On second thought, my response should perhaps only apply to those of us who are MTF CDers. I didn't mean to offend any TS girls who feel that they really are essentially girls, and who are entitled to be respected for that identity.

Looking back in time, this subject shows up now and then.
Girl seems the most descriptive word for a female, or a man wearing a dress well. :)

This trend of creative alternate spellings is all Lynyrd Skynyrd's fault. At least that's what I thynk.
I think that The Bard was twisting spellings long before the boys from The South. He couldn't even spell his own name consistently!

I can hardly spell my own name correctly, how do you expect me to keep track of more spellings for girl?

I read somewhere once that back in the Bard's time, before standardized spelling (and dictionaries), it was considered a sign of intelligence if you could spell words in a variety of ways. Not sure if that story is true or not. But it wasn't uncommon for people to use a variety of spellings and none were really incorrect.

hi, about spelling someone wrote on here that rap stars spell word diffrent on purpose to be cool . well my two cents first off i like rap and hip hop i think there the new beat poets, but i went to the same inner city school system that most of them went and i never learned to spell correckly becouse these svhools or all up and out schools . so if there like me the spelling is not right because they were never tauth to spell correctly . so we spell the way it sounds and you know what thinking about it sometimes it dose sound pretty cool.love lynda

Hi Rili
Seen in the Readers Digest some years ago.
A sign on a wall read “I love grils”.
The next day ‘grils’ was crossed out and replaced with ‘girls’.
The following day an extra line was added ‘What about us grils.’
May grils is what we are.
