I booked my room for Diva Las Vegas, Now that’s done what do I wear. For a weekend getaway I take two suitcases and a couple small bags. This is going to be a whole week with travel. I envision like in the movies a mountain of suitcases. Have you been and how much or many outfits do you take?

We have a rule in our family for holidays. If you can't take it in one bag (i.e. 15kg), you can't take it!

Hell-o Jean,
I imagine your driving, maybe? How many bags will fit in your car?
You being the thrifty person you are though, Vegas is full of pawn and thrift shops, you
will more than likely return home with more than you brought.
Unless of course you have bad luck at the gaming tables, and have to visit that pawn shop
to unload some of your stuff for some cash.
Have fun!
Much Love
Kristyn

Hi Jean,

Just accept you're going to wind up taking more than you will need. At the end of the week you'll look at what you didn't wear and ask yourself "why did I bring that?"

Be that as it may, try to plan the outfits you'll wear during the week. You can mix and match separates from multiple days to make new outfits. Of course you'll need a LBD for those special nights.

Good Luck and let us know how it turns out!

Many seem to show up at DLV with a U-haul full of stuff.

I have found that a decent sized suitcase, a shoe bag (we have a luggage piece that looks like a smallish suitcase but it works more like a duffel bag), a hanging bag & a smaller one for toiletries works well for me. This seems like a lot but I can usually get it to the room in one trip, assuming I don't have a bag of snacks & drinks, presents & party favors for my roomies, a backpack, etc.

Then again, I have friends who think I overpack!

If you decide what you are wearing for each event before you pack and give yourself maybe one or two optional outfits, you should be able to keep things reasonable.

I guess that would depend on how much of a "Diva" you are Hon. :battingeyelashes::)

Good question, Jean. And, one reason why I skipped the SCC in Atlanta last year. Packing a week's worth of outfits into 2 bags for flying there was too overwhelming for me!

Fortunately, I drive to DLV so I can take everything I think I'll need plus extras, as Sara mentioned. I literally carry an Army duffle bag filled with shoes, boots, and purses! I use the weeks ahead of DLV to pick out and model each outfit. Along with every accessory they each will require! I DO try to limit what I bring. Like, only about 12 or so wigs.:battingeyelashes:

When packing for a weeklong event, I have learned how to mix and match on outfits. When you learn how to use separates to match into different daily outfits, you can cut the amount you take in half.

For a week, I take one large suitcase for foldables, one garment bag for hangables. a small case for shoes, one each small bag for makeup and wigs. Of course, I'm driving not flying; I'm driving.

I've found that I still pack too much.

I like to travel light. For a weekend, one suitcase is plenty.

When travel for a week I travel with 2 bags. I have a very difficult time getting it down to 1. I understand the problems of women now. It's the various shoes and outfits to have at hand in case the weather changes. I don't care to be out in the rain in a dress. Or if it is cold the tights and right shoes will make all the difference in the world

And don't forget the bag of guy clothes for emergencies.

I’m will have women’s tee shirt and jeans that can go both ways, but I will not be packing any guy clothes or shoes. This is an all-girl week. I have decided more is better and have added a dress bag and another suite case for shoes. I am going to start packing soon, I know it’s still six weeks away. I may add another suite case. A girl can’t go out in the first outfit she puts on. LOL Jean

I do a complete "dress rehearsal" the week before DLV. Down to gloves and jewelry for each outfit.

By then, I've picked out what events I'm going to and try to pack appropriately. Going there 4 years previously helps!:battingeyelashes:

as my lady stuff seems to take up less space than my man-stuff, I can fit more packed. The one-bag rule is our family rule too, but hey, with a car, and your own fantasies to fulfill, take as many as the car will hold!!!

I really like Linda's advice; that would work for me.

We have a rule in our family for holidays. If you can't take it in one bag (i.e. 15kg), you can't take it!

No way that would work for Claire and her alter ego! One of us would have to lose out ... I wonder who? :heehee: One of the perk's of being Delta Medallion with free bags....

Reminds me of an episode of Big Bang Theory, when Sheldon wanted Penny to guess the name of an animal:
"Hint. It has a trunk."
"A monkey?"
"Why would a monkey have a trunk?"
"When a suitcase just won't do."

Must have been a crossdressing monkey. haha

When I travel and know I'll be able to dress up, I take two big duffel bags. They hold just about everything I have. It's more than I need, but I never know what I will want to wear, so I take it all.

from California to Vegas for a week en femme party? that's at least 15 outfits, maybe 20. I would definitely drive. I have a clothing bar across the back seat of the car. Big suitcase for wigs and delicates, duffel for shoes and purses. But if I was flying, I would mix and match my way into two or maybe three bags.

I usually get by with one big suitcase and a duffle type bag for my girl stuff when I go to DLV. I do quite a bit of mix and match, so I may double up a little on occasion. And if I limit myself to comfortable shoes rather than the cute ones, I don't need as much space. It usually take me a couple of trips from the car to room because I'll also have my CPAP, computer, camera and food for those mornings when I need something to eat, still have my nails painted but don't have the energy to shave and do my makeup. Other things that can reduce the number of things you bring include shopping (yes, there are wonderful thrift stores as well as high end shopping in L.V.) or a late start will eliminate a change and you only get one outfit in where you had planned for two on that day.

And I always pack too much, possibly because my face gets raw a few days in and I just wander around in guy mode. That's one of the wonderful things about DLV, they don't really care if you backslide a little and become an escort for an event rather than a diva. See you down there and consider coming on the Art Tour on Thursday afternoon.

A size 20 case lasts me for four months, then again, I am a minimalist. :)

GREAT question.....I have been trying to learn the art of packing LIGHT !!! I am with you, usually 2 suitcases and a few small bags for a weekend ...its the SHOES that get in the way for me....I have been trying to narrow THAT down to just 3 pairs....a comfy day pair, and 2 dressy that i can mix and match...
I never really plan an outfit I dont really know what im gunna want to wear or how im gunna feel so i try to pack options that i know i can mix & match and stay away from dresses...that way i can mix tops & bottoms according to how i feel that day. Nothing wrong with dresses either....i just perfer not to wear them alot because once you go out with friends in one..snap some pics...its going to be a few months before you can wear it out again , if not the fashion police will arrest you.
