When I'm dressed and walking round the house I find myself trying to walk like a girl, it probably looks silly but I can't help it, any others do the same?

The walk came pretty natural to me for some reason...the same that walking in heels was never ever a problem. not sure why.....maybe i'm relaxed. Even dressed like a man i've had female friends say to me that i walk like a woman and my mannerism when standing and talking are like a woman. For me i think i picked it up very inadvertantly. I've always had alot of female friends. when i was rela young......up to today. my mannerism and walk came from just being with women alot and wasn't something i "tried at".
The funny thing is...women who make these comments always seem to point out that its not that "gay fem" its more natural fem. I've always had circles of friends that were all women where i was considered "one of the girls". The strange thing about that is that they all have known me as a hetro/non TG male.

I've tried. Keep my legs close together when walking and keep my shoulders back and breasts out. I have no trouble pointing my feet straight ahead when walking because my mother kept after me not to walk like I was making a V with my feet. And I cut down on my stride. Do I do a good job? I hope so.

Somewhaer in here there is a film display of the twodifferent male and female walking methods. I rather think it is a DanaJ one. Try searching under "Walk".
It is rather good with the notes.

Hello, I never thought i could but my girlfriend says I walk more fem than she does (dressed). I have always been able to walk in heels, 2..3..4 inches, no problem. Maybe I was born to do this!!!!!!!!! haha Hugs!! Kaitlin

I have always walked as a girl from very young. I was always around my sisters and mother and their (girl)friends. So I guess I picked it up. I have been snickered at for the way I walked. So I had to learn to walk like a man and some times when I don't think about it I walk naturally. A few weeks ago at work I was in the lunch room and walked to the desert table and one of my co workers came up next to me and called me a girlyman. I looked at him like he was crazy then it dawned on me that it must have been the way I walked to the table.
That has happened with two other co workers.

I'm usually the first one into work so I practice as I'm going to the water fountain or bathroom before others arrive. Its much more fun in heels though!

Walking in a feminine manner is definitely better for your back and general posture because you maintain a straight spine.
However what I dislike is that it takes me an eternity to get anywhere:D My male walk is fast and efficient, I have timed myself at 4 mph when I get into my stride which makes walking a very practical solution to getting around. Whereas en femme it takes me 10 minutes just to reach the end of my street and my feet soon ache while in heels.

I always have naturally, as I have been more on the femme side all my life.:)
Pretty much the same as Clarissa, around girls all my life.

I heard (a long time ago) that the way to prcatice is, to cross your feet over while you walk, so that as you step forward with your left foot, you try to put it down ahead of and just a little to the right of your right foot, similarly with the right foot landing ahead of and to the left of the left foot.
This is not "how" to walk... It would look insane, but it forces you to swing your hips, and the exersize makes it easier and more natural to walk with one foot in front of the other like a super-model rather than wide apart like a long distance truck-driver.
Onother thing I heard was, your foot should land toe-heel, not heel-toe ?
Personally I dont worry about walking, I only ever go from my closet to the kitchen and back :o

My wife says that I have a natural sway when dressed. It does not seem to be there when not dressed.I think it has a lot to do with the heels.

I've been dressing for over 30 years. If I don't walk like a lady by now, I'm never going to. When I am wearing high heels, I walk like a lady. When I'm en drab, I don't.

I've been told many times that I use my personal space more like a female. I don't mean in an obviously camp or limp-wristed way, I just dont sit/walk/gesture and take up room much like a male. This is nothing I do deliberately, it is just the way I've always been, gentle and unassuming. In fact, I find it difficult to act in an assertive and masculine manner at all, even though I'm quite a large person. My wife was dismayed the first time she compared videos of us...my movements and walk are more femme and less clumsy than hers.
A few years back I met my sisters for the first time (long story) and they were spooked by my resemblence to my mother and one of my sisters. We look like twins. I was shown a short video of my mother (Who I had not seen since I was six weeks old and who died before I could meet her again.) and it was like looking at myself in a mirror. Ain't life wierd !

Thanks for the info Sam, I tried the search but didn't find the film. I do know that DanaJ had girlie walking lessons in the salon of one of her earlier makeovers. THE STORY OF DANA.

For some reason almost all of my movements and mannerisms are femmine. I never have to think about it and I do all of these things even when I have to be in the guy mode. I sometimes wonder what people walking behind me think if they pay attention to the way I walk. :)

Same here, I never had much trouble learning how to walk, sit and gesture like a girl... I picked it up pretty naturally, probably because my biggest influence growing up was my mother, who is very feminine, and she's the one who taught me feminine comportment anyway when I was a young teen.
I'm not overtly feminine when I'm in male mode, though I have to think sometimes to not sit down like a woman. It's like riding a bike though, when I'm en femme, the movement and comportment all come back.

I use to try and walk fem. But I too thought I looked funny. And I find the more I dress and the less I think about it the more fluid and fem my actions become. Maybe we try to hard. And should just be who we are.

Yup I can..but ...I cheated kinda...:D Will explain..
Due to the nature of my RL as well as some exterraneous hobbies, I'm often faced with the appearance of the female form in various poses in digital format, I.E. 3D high-rez renderings / animations.
Couple this with several years in the martial arts for balance and poise, and I found walking in heels to be almost ridiculously easy. Combined with the innate understanding of the female form's movements (3D/animations) I found I could duplicate what I saw very very closely.
Right now..I'm just trying to find a good place to shoe shop locally that has higher than 3 inch heels..I want to try either 4-5 or higher. ;)

I walk in a feminine manner all the time. I do a lot of walking, so I have had tons of time to practice... Not that I needed it, I guess I have always walked this way...

In Drab, not even slightly but in high heels yes. It helps that I have been wearing 5" and higher heels for 20+years though. :D

Lindahexi,
It takes some practice for most of us. Try this link, I found it very helpful. Then practice where you can see yourself, mirrors, window reflections, etc. Good luck!

Thanks to you all for the response and the helpful tips, I guess I'm not as odd as I thought I was! I'll get in some more practice and try to improve my walk.:bs:
Read somewhere, a long time ago, that when walking, women lead with their hips, while men lead with their shoulders. Seems to make sense, judging from the replies here.

Jayme I have seen the reverse: at a very social event a year ago, I was struck by a very attractive young woman wearing a very sexy outfit, killer boots, BUT, walking like a man. Not just any man. A jock.
She was striding, with her heels landing first, and hard, and at a line parallel with the outside of her hips. Authoritative, not sexy.
If you watch the fashion channels, where everything femme is exagerated, the runway models cross over their strides to the extreme, but, it generates the killer swivel of hips that makes walking sexy. For me, up to 3 inches, no problem. 5 inches, less convincing.

when dressed I always catch myself making sure to walk like a girl. At home and dressed I pratice it all the time. In a cute mini with heels on and having the fem walk just makes it more sexier.
Walking in heels is easy, walking like a woman is not!

When I first went out in public wearing heels and I walked slowly with confidence and was comfortable wearing high heels. It seemed to come naturaly. As did other feminine things such as spending hours shopping and fumbling in my handbag and talking more that I did as a male.

Like Marla, I've been dressing for over thirty years. When dressed, I have no problem walking like a girl, and when in drab the feller in me just comes out. I don't have to be wearing heels to walk feminine, just be in my lady state of mind. Billie Jean;)

I think that when you are dressed in a dress or a skirt and high heels you can't help but walk more feminine. Shorter steps, legs closer together. I don't think you can avoid some of it. Ever try to take a long stride in a stilleto heel?

When dressed and i heels --- yes. I've had lots of practice over the years and I never wear heels over 3 inches. And a good firm girdle doesn't hurt either. I was out in public one night fully dressed and was wearing a dress and 3" heels, I know for sure my girdle helped me walk more ladylike and definitely helped to keep me from being read that night!!!

The high heels tend to make me walk like a woman, whether I'm trying to or not. There are some things that I CAN do as well as, if not better than a woman, but let's leave that to our imaginations! tee hee hee

I was out dressed this evening and stopped into a lingerie store owned by a friend who has been helping me. I dropped by to show her my new heels 4" black patent leather Mary Janes. I asked her about my walk and she said it was very girlie. What a smile that brought to my face.

Not without the right shoes on, I can't. Maybe sometime soon even being barefoot it will be easy for me. The shoes seem to have something to do with this, but even dressed drab sometimes, I can feel that little lift in my walk.

It doesn't get any better than that.
I try to walk feminine when dressed, leading with my upper leg or thigh instead of my foot, and letting my hips sway. I took a Latin dance class and had to learn to let my hips sway opposite to a woman's so it was pretty apparent how I wanted to do it!
