I have been suffering from bronchitis for the past three weeks. I am just starting to recover, and for the first time in three weeks have managed to stay up for 15 hours with minimal coughing, although I still cough here and there.

I don't smoke. I used to smoke (I did so for 12 years), and quit a year and a half ago. I exercise regularly and eat healthy. I don't drink. I don't do drugs.

I have never had bronchitis before. I have only had a handful of illnesses that lasted this long in the past. Usually when I get a cold I am done with it in a week.

I know several people, trans and cis, who said they had bronchitis within the past 4-6 months.

I have been on hormones for 9 months. I spoke with my mom to wish her a happy Mother's Day. My brother called me up at night to talk. He said he was concerned about me having bronchitis, especially since I don't have a history of it. I am 34 and going to be 35 in a few weeks. He said that he wanted to make sure that this is not some weird side effect of the hormones.

I know this is paranoid and crazy-making, and probably me caring too much about what my brother thinks, but has anyone ever heard of bronchitis or a weakened immune system as a side effect of hormones? Or was it just my bad luck that I got bronchitis during my first year on hormones? Mostly I want to educate my brother with the facts, because he might make assumptions about hormones that are based in ignorance and fear. Or could bronchitis or weakened immune system be real side effects that anyone thinking of trying HRT should be aware of?

I understand that bronchitis is caused by a biotic. Pneumonia is akin to bronchitis. I had both severial times many years ago when I was young. I had the dubious honor of being the 4th civilian to be treated by penicilian.. Got a shot every 4 hrs. in the bottom. At 77 yrs. old, memory can be sketchy, but having had pneumonia 6 times, pleurisy and bronchitis several times before i was 20, I am very greatful for penicilian..

You need fairly high doses of progesterone to cause immune suppression. Most of the other meds, assuming your using standard bioidentical E and spiro or something shouldn't cause it. Your regular bloods should pick it up anyway.

Go and see a doctor. Smoking for 12 years, now with a chronic cough? Best to get it checked with a doc + / - maybe chest radiographs if indicated.

Three to four week history of bronchitis (admittedly self diagnoses) not too bad. If sputum becomes bloody or cough goes six weeks, time to see doctor. Hormones not culprit.
