NPR just ran a story that today is the 75 th anniversary of the manufacture of the nylon stocking. For cders, this has to be one of the greatest inventions of all time!!! Anybody up for a party to celebrate?

Lifting my coffee cup right now in a toast to the invention of nylons! My old battered legs need the help that's for sure. I remember my parents talking about how during WWII that nylon stocking were a high value commodity since production of them had temporarily ceased due to the war production efforts. It seemed odd to me at the time they told me that but now I understand entirely!

Considering that nylon, as a substance, was first produced 80 years ago, it sure didn't take them long to figure out the best way to use it!

Hey Mel, you and I have tipped one together before, so set 'em up and salute the Nylon! It's ironic that an American is credited for developing the material nylon, but 20 some years early a French Chemist poured raw nylon down a drain as it wasn't the dye base he was looking for. When nylon was introduced, he realizes he had it in his lab 20 years before, but never stretched the liquid out to see it would make a fiber!

Celebrate by going out and buying some. With pale legs that do not tan at all, life without nylons would be terrible. I pity those poor girls during World War 2 that went without nylons because the material was used for parachutes.
