Greetings. I wanted to change a bit from serious topics and talk about my funny relationship between crossdressing and playing video games.

I've noticed I have a trend on always playing female characters in video games or rpgs.
I've just realized I particularly take time and effort when there's a customisable character (clothes, shapes and so on) like a virtual doll.
And the ultimate fun is to create a "perfect" me and crossdress while playing my feminine virtual alter ego.
Am I the only one?

I am assuming that a lot of us that do play games will do something similar when it comes to playing games with either customizable characters or just allows us to pick between genders. I do this when possible as I feel more comfortable playing as female even though my friends don't know about me.

No you're not the only one. I always pick female characters in RPG's.. all my EQ characters are female.. I think my first ever female character was back in the days of paper and dice.. played a female cleric called Sharana..

It probably stems from even earlier than that, I've always enjoyed strong female characters in fantasy fiction.. many of my early online characters were named after characters from the Elenium/Tamuli series or the Belgariad.

Princess, I like to play Call of Duty(Ghosts), there are various female characters to choose from. I'v noticed that there are a lot of males playing as the female characters but you know they are male because many use headsets with voice which are clearly male. I've heard some players mention that there sure are a lot of Trannies playing this game, it makes me smile and wonder why so many males would choose female characters and use pink weapons. Yes of course there are GG who also play these games but even they have mentioned the number of males using female characters.

It's quite rare that I play as a female character. The only series I really use female characters for is Saints Row and that's because of the gender related achievement. I play a lot of Rock Band though and hope there is an option of crossdressing my male avatar.

I do remember always choosing Chung Li as my character back in the day of my Snes on Street Fighter 2. She was the quickest and best fighter on that game, and I liked her outfit too!!

Back during my high school and college days I got a lot of ribs for always picking the female characters in Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Gauntlet. Mainly because I usually won all the time and other players were trying to get me to switch to a different character with a hope of winning. Now most of my close friends and family know the real reason I'm always picking Kitana, Chun-Li, etc, and on current games playing as the woman.

lol my character in GTA is a women my buddies were asking me why i didnt do a male and make him look like me. i justified it by saying that i was tired of looking at the virtual back side of a man so i went with a women. good thing they bought it lol

I tend to play female characters whenever I get the option. Only time I don't are games with romance options, would rather romance a woman.

Yes I always play as a female character whenever I have the choice. Personally I find it more fun and enjoyable to make create and customize a character that looks super cute.

I loved some of the old EA Sports Tiger Woods golf games, because you could create and customize a golfer of either gender. I always used to play a girl golfer.

I play Lord of the Rings Online and am always a Female char except when playing a Dwarf they do not seem to have genders. LOL
I also always use a Female char when ever possible in all other games that I play.

Perhaps it is because I am TG and live 24/7 as a woman.

Second question :

Do you sometimes cosplay your character while playing (or the contrary) do you create a version of you crossdressed in the game?

I also like to play the female role in all to most of the games I play.
I like to buy the most girly things that they can wear. In the most beutiful and colourful clothes I can.

It's why I can't get into the Witcher series. I'm forced to play as some scarred up old dude with Standard Fantasy "Badass" Monotone Voice. That and the combat just never clicked with me for some reason. I'm tending more toward the tactical stuff like in Dragon Age Inquisition (in spite of the wonky tac cam) as I get older. Looking forward to the return of VATS in Fallout 4.

I spend way too much time in the clothing shops in the Saints Row series. Oddly, I enjoyed GTA5 in spite of it forcing you to play as not one but three male characters. Ultimately a good game is a good game, I guess.

Go figure, On my wizards, I have three females life, death, and fire. My males are myth, storm and balance magic. I did that naturally and I think it shows my fem/male balance is pretty even, i just noticed that the other day. MY female wizards get more friends and support than my male wizards, go figure that. Yet my storm wizard does get male and female friends.

I always default to a female.
In WoW, it was always a female(though my first character was a male, I didn't want to make a female in fear of being made fun of(I was 9 ok?! Lol!))
And in GTA 80% of my time is spent in shops buying clothes for my female toon. GTA is great for CD'ers, in terms of RP. I want to go swimming? Ok go back to the apartment, change into a bikini and ride the bike to the beach. Want to go out driving? Put on some nice clothes and go drive around the city. So many opportunities for it. All the stuff I wish I could do, just haven't been able to yet.

EDIT: as for being defaulted to a main character being a male, I've always been fine with it. I'm fine with being the badass macho man, if the game forces me. But given the option, it's almost always female(save Fallout New Vegas, bought it again in hype of Fallout 4 and I made a male)

*On phone so I apologize for any typos*

I often play female characters given the choice. My friends make fun of me for it sometimes, but really if i'm gonna spend hours staring at the character model i might as well make it more enjoyable to look at.

Hello! Geeky Gamer Chick here!!! Yes I always play female chars unless your only option is male... I always spend more time making my chars pretty with hair and dress up (especially games we can mod like Skyrim or Fallout) then actually playing the game. I think we are all Geeky Gamer Chicks :)

No, I usually will use a female character also. I played Saint's Row the third recently and refused to change the clothes on the president because was wearing these super shiny hosiery and no other outfit had them or the option to apply them lol I know.....it is what it is lol

I've had the same problems with the Witcher, just have desire to play as Geralt. I do play of male characters in other games though, I'd say about 60/40 female to male lately, but when I do play male characters then stay way from overly macho stereotypes, usually more cunning or strange characters instead.

You can dress in pretty much anything with the right achievements. My band's lead looks much like my guy self in a corset and skirt.

I always play female character when there is a choice for example Fallout and Elder Scroll series.
To go one further I also choose lesbian romance relationship when possible like in Mass Effect and Dragon Age series. As a side note I so wish Miranda in ME was available for female-female romance.
I wish Ubi Soft will give us a choice choosing female character on Assassin's Creed series.

One thing I've done a few times lately in games where you can create multiple characters to be in the same party, is create opposite sex twin characters, then I could have both a male and female avatar at the same time.

I rarely play female characters, when given the choice I pick male characters 90% of the time, I'll play around in the customisation with a female character but not actually play the game as a female.

I do crossdress in games though, very few of them support it, the sims was disappointing since it's all about creation and includes same sex relationships.
Most games that feature it have it as a joke.

I rarely play male characters in RPGs and MMORPGs (EQ2, SWTOR, Star Trek Online, and the Mass Effect series). Most of the time I play female characters. My brother (who does not crossdress) up in Canada also plays females almost exclusively in the MMOs with me, and it's rather amusing that we both spend a lot of time getting new clothing and costumes for our characters.

My wife giggles when she hears us talking about new wardrobes for our characters, and I'll be the first one to admit that I'm a clotheshorse when it comes to my online characters.

I almost always play female characters too...
I was a GameStop store manager for a few years, and you'd be surprised at how many straight guys agree with Natalie and play female characters in third person games so they aren't looking at a dudes backside for 40 hours!

I have a mix. I mostly play SWTOR and find that Sith and Healers are all female while my tanks are male. The DPS characters are a mix.
One of the most fun thing about playing female characters is when other players start hitting on you because you have a cute female avatar. :)

I play gta 5 and wanted to play as a girl. You can kinda pick some of the traits you want. But when I got my girl she's a beast like 6'6 and can beat up any man

Of course, female video game characters are WIN.

I've been playing Sarah Bryant as my main in Virtua Fighter since the arcade days. 28 years is a long time to have a relationship with anyone, even a fictional character... we've been together more than half of my life! And we still just keep getting better. Sarah isn't just a digital character on a screen, to me. She is me. I am her. We KICK ASS.

Given a choice, I ALWAYS play as female in games. After 246 hours in Skyrim as a gorgeous, so-stealthlike-she's-almost-invisible-to-enemies Nord archer, I wasn't looking forward playing gruff Geralt in Witcher III. But, OH, what an amazing game.

The reason I'm chiming in here is because I'm in the middle of a Witcher III quest where Geralt encounters someone who turns out to be a crossdresser...a "straight" crossdresser...and it all plays out beautifully...

Dragon age inquisition which was a great game that came out last year is being praised for its gay character companion, bioware often feature realistic, interesting and believable gay characters in their games but in inquisition also included a FtM transgender character who was essentially a crossdresser but only due to the fact that in the medieval world of the game sex changes wouldn't be feasible. He was a mercenary in a mercenary company who's leader is a gruff hulking macho beast who you can discuss his soldiers gender and he says something to the effect of "it doesn't affect me, he's a good fighter and is the way he is, who am I to judge?"

The upcoming fallout 4 which has featured in the past same sex intercourse has shown crossdressing in a montage trailer, the game can be played as either male or female but never had crossdressing, I'm not sure if the clothing the character is wearing is just a silly outfit or if all apparel is wearable inter changeably but hopefully it's the latter

Having played Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas several times, and always with a female character, I am really looking forward to Fallout 4. I modded Fallout 3 to have a female companion alongside my character.

I always play with a female character. I've done so since the old Ultima Underworld and Ultima Underworld II. I played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim all with female characters. And married a female NPC in Skyrim, too. All my 8 characters in World of Warcraft are female, although I haven't subscribed to the game for a very long time.

For games that I'm playing to try to relax with, I choose a female.
Probably something in that...

Oddly enough I rarely play as a female character in RPGs and always seem to create characters that look more like my male persona :p I might have to try this for fallout or if I play Skyrim again. I do like playing as the princess characters in games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros though

I am Playing Fable 2 and I crossdress my male character. In Fable 3 i do the same. In Saints Row 2 through SR4 I do the same. I didn't know that you can pick the gender of your character in Skyrim. I am going to check out Dragon age later.

Same for me.. 100% of the time.. if its available, i play as a women..

as of the design of the player.. I do not always design the player to look like me.. but i spend a lot of time in the CREATE section.. i do feel a stronger link to my player when i am dressed to kill while playing :)

I was a female for 5 years in Star Wars Galaxies.. 4 years in wow.. guild wars 2.. lords of the rings.. skyrim, starwars old republic.. ESO online, shooters, rpgs, sumulators, whatever.. you name it, i was there CDing :)

I am with AprilMayy about GTA online.. its so much fun and i do spend a lot of my time cloths shopping.. changing outfit.. swiming in bikinis.. i change outfit VERY often! hehe

I have been ask many time why i always choose to play as a women.. i just answered that: if i must spend so much time online, why not making it more fun to the eye.. make it more entertaining. I have the choice to play as a dude or to look at a sexy badass chick while doing the same thing.. with no negative side. Since then I converted a lot of my friend and coworker player to play as female too :)

I started playing the Neverwinter Nights MORPG about 8 years ago and, just for a lark, chose a female character. Over the years she's become like an alter ego and in some ways is responsible for more feminine behaviours bleeding into my real life. I think she has also facilitated my explorations of sexuality and - more recently - gender identity. I don't have a problem playing male characters (especially in FPS and other solo games) but I'm now more predisposed to play women in RPGs.

Within my own gaming experience, I usually pick a female avatar to represent myself. Which given my choice in games, is not very often – I rarely get to take off my helmet and fireproof suit, apparently.

One of my current IGNs could be construed as a female name as well as a noun anyway, but the references in my alt IGN reinforces the latter.
