A few months ago I deliberately bought a skirt that was too small. I was getting way too fat and of course the skirt didn't fit so I set myself a goal: "you will be able to wear this skirt eventually, no matter what"! Well...after a lot of walking, cycling and of course changing my diet I tried the thing on today and it fits!!! Ok, still a little tight but I'm getting there.

I'm so happy and proud of myself. Sorry girls, just had to get this off my chest!!!

Awesome! Congratulations!

I also have been purposely losing weight so I'll look better in women't clothes -- my doctor is actually cheering me on because of the related health benefits. I'm down to a waist size I haven't seen in decades. But now I have to buy new outfits... ;)

JeanetteX ..... you should be VERY proud of yourself . So many people take for granted how lucky they are to have never battled extra pounds . When I first started dressing pretty in my early 20's , I weighed 135lbs .... I could fit into almost anything. Now at 47 and in the 270lbs range , it's hard to get "that" right shape we all so desire .

P.S.

I recently have dropped 40lbs in the last 3 months by going back to work at a physically challenging job . I got up to almost 315lbs !!!!!!

Yay Me !!!!!

Losing weight is hard , great job .....

I, too, am on a weight loss journey. I habe lost around 60 lbs and have quite a way ti go still. I am also working on training / exercise to focus on my body and hopefully get back my more girlish figure from years ago.

Maybe we should all start a group here to encourage each other and push us to our goals. Just a thought.

Hi Jeanette,

Strange coincidence there. I've been losing weight and tried on a skirt tonight that I hadn't worn for a couple of years. It did up but I still need a little bit more to disappear for total comfort.

You / we need to tell others as an inspiration for ourselves, as it helps to reinforce the goal.

Similar motivations here. The largest shorts Abercrombie/Hollister make are size 10 (Abercrombie) and size 11 (Hollister) and I wanted to fit into them. I also wanted to look better in my Victoria's Secret bikinis and underwear. So I switched to diet soda and baked potato chips, started counting calories and exercising. I've lost nine pounds so far, and been under 160 for the first time in years. More important, the male "love handles" above my hips are gone and my belly is a lot flatter. Now I can wear the high waist Hollister shorts as well as the low waist ones.

Thats awesome way to go !!!
I have always dealt with weight gain off and on but it never kept me from dressing.

Cheers to all who have lost weight, I need to loose 20 to 30 lbs in the tummy and love handle area. I try to eat properly but I need an exercise program. I'll be semi-retired in a couple of months, maybe then I can fit it in!
Hugs, Bria

I did the same, lost half the weight I wanted and then got way too busy. Trying to get started on losing the rest again.

I also fixed my posture quite a bit and worked on tightening my core which is fixing part of my pot belly.

Congrats!! Maybe this is the secret "male" diet. I know myself that I'm far more conscious of my weight than I have ever been. I've lost 10 lbs myself lately and though my desire to lose 30 more is unrealistic due to my body type, if nothing else, a person may make the decision to eat better and get more exercise because, dammit, I just spent 80 bucks on a dress and I'm not going to ruin it on a binge of beer and wings!!!!

Absolutely! You know I think it would be really fun to have a cooking group just to keep in trim and centered, etc. Too bad everyone is so scattered.

Steffi bought me a gown that motivated me to lose weight and once I got started I just kept going. I know the feeling well and glad to see others are having the same thing happen to them! Congrats to all and may we never see those pounds come back!

great news!!!!! I wish this topic was a regular topic on here, but excersise and diet always take a back seat to how to hide it instead of focusing on how to lose it. I do the same thing, I have had a skirt that was way too tight, just a few days ago I was able to zip it up yay!!!!!! Now to focus on this other skirt thats a size smaller !!!!!!!

JeanetteX

You are so right Adriana, we should be discussing our weight much more openly and freely. As others already stated its not just a good thing for dressing but also, and much more important, for our health. I wasn't as fat as a rhino or anything but it was surely time to get rid of the fatty love handles!!! And if it creates a more feminine body in addition then I'd be completely over the moon.

Cant believe I hadn't thought of buying a smaller skirt before...its so motivating and from what I read it works miracles for you too!

This is certainly a great topic of discussion. If any of the moderators are watching, they should consider making a "Health & Fitness" forum/section where we could post similar discussions and encourage each other.

Unfortunately I had let myself go for way too long and did resemble a small rhino  :bonk:  ; but happily I am on my way to a healthier self. I have lost 60 lbs or so through healthier habitz and exercise. Now I am more like a small cow. :D

I am still going and hope to get to a good weight in another 6 months or so.:cheer:

Maybe I will try this too.

Anyway, a big congrats to all of you who have been successful. Keep it up and if you need a cheerleader, count me in.

Many years ago I bought a lovely ISL three piece suit...grey with pink striping. I really loved that suit in male mode: matching pink tie, etc., and all years before Tina! I recently rediscovered that suit (stored away when I gained 50 pounds) and I'm determined to get back into it. Tina will love being that size again as well!

Ladies I too have been losing weight slowly just the way I put it on. From wearing a 2x I bought a dress yesterday which was size 16 by Michael Khors. I have lost a total of 34 lbs and have at least another 5 pounds to reach my goal. I have attended several programs put on by my medical provider. Nothing is off limits but everything is in moderation. They said if you say you cannot have something that something is all you will think about. A diet that is most fruits and vegetables and limiting the number of time you meat from four legged animals, substituting two legged (chicken, turkey and other fowl) and of course no legged meat from fish but be mindful of the mercury content.this is what was recommended by the Doctors.

Very awesome Jeanette!
I've discovered that my "girl figure" really influences my fitness and diet. I've lost about seven pounds in the past few weeks; just said bye to fast-food and soda. I've also tweaked a few other things. Also stepped up my workouts.
My goal is 150.
Another major influence is I want to get a 90+% on my next fit test in September.

Thanks for sharing motivation for daily exercise! I lost weight too, after changing diet since health was on a decreasing slope. I am purging large clothes, and enjoy medium sized ones that were tight fitting.

Said goodbye to soda as well and dropped a pound and a half in a week. I was only drinking 1-2 cans a day... But that's 1400 calories. I walked a little more than usual over the last week, which probably helped. But dropping soda (or switching to diet) can make a big difference.

Jeanette,
I have several skirts where the waist button has been moved as far as possible ! I didn't realise that my favorite black velvet skirt has a broken zip , so now I've got to decide if I try and fit a new one myself or bite the bullet and take it to a repair shop, it does need extending on the waist band it's always been tight as a small fitting size 10 !
We don't usually get things off our chests but normally add things like a nice bra and forms !

My problem is, the weight is in the wrong place. Males carry weight (fat) differently than females. If my belly fat would just move to my hips and butt, I wouldn't have to wear padding.

I tried a gym for a year but I didn't like it. Many of the other customers were jerks and the music was too loud. keep telling myself I can exercise just as well at home but I seldom remember to do it.

Krisi,
I'm grateful I have a dog , I walk twice a day I lost 28lbs exercising her the added bonus is getting out in various stages of being dressed and underdressed .

Teresa, I have a dog as well but she only walks from mail post to mail post and stops to sniff. If I want to burn some calories, I have to leave the dog at home.

I have been running and working out vigorously for 35 years. That did keep my weight down. Due to a recently discovered medical condition I have had to curtail the vigorous exercise. Hopefully it will be resolved and I can resume my normal workouts. I was afraid of gaining weight. As a result I have drastically modified my diet. Fresh Fruits and vegetables, cut way, way, way, down on sugar, alcohol, and red meat. The weight has stayed off. I can still exercise moderately but nothing like I used to. I have to admit I never ate this well. And as an aside I do feel better. I guess this was a wakeup call for me in more ways than one. Diet is crucially important.

Krisi
07-26-2015, 10:48 AM
Eating right is the key, along with moderate exercise. Genetics play a big part as well. I could eat less and healthier food but my wife usually selects the food and piles it on the plate. I was raised not to waste food so, if it's on the plate I eat it.

She has a moderate weight problem as well but she can't seem to make the connection between eating right and weight problems.

Krisi, it's time to go beyond silly raising patterns, if you choose whats on your plate, put less on or leave some as feedback ...

Yes congratulations are in order. Our health and fitness goes hand in hand with our Beauty. It's hearing stories like this that have given me the inspiration to loose weight as well, 30 pounds over the last year. Loosing weight also gives us a reason to go shopping!

I wholly agree with Adriana Moretti that heath and fitness should be a regular topic on here as well

Congrats!

Over the past year, my wife and I have lost 20 lbs each. I don't mean to give a sales pitch but if you have the opportunity, group fitness classes are the ONLY way to go. Not only are they 90% women, you will never push yourself as hard as you do in a group class. Nobody looks at you. Nobody laughs. Nobody cares if you stop to breath, huffing and puffing. Catch your breath, take a drink and jump back in.

Just like here, you're part of a group. You see the people from class in the supermarket, they stop and talk to you. It's a great feeling.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said the "only" way to go. Group fitness is one of the ways to safely and slowly lose weight. We also switched to a (mostly) paleo diet which at first sounds like anther no carb, protein only gimic diet. Taken to extreme, yes. It could be seen that way.

Basically, if it comes from a box and/or has too many ingredients that we can't pronounce, we skip it.

Lots of fresh fruit, veggies, fish.......and eggs. Lots of eggs. haha.

The other day I put on a set of shorts and just kept going.

They were my 13-year-old's shorts. My boy is a beast, (6'5" at 13)

I'm amazed that I can even get his clothes over my ankle, much less fit over my butt. I haz a big butt.
