View Full Version : Crossdressing on a Raft Trip? Just saying.....

Just spent 8 days out in Idaho on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River rafting with a group from here in Arkansas. The MFSR is also known as the River of No Return/Frank Church wilderness area. Large rapids, white water, big sky country! On day two of our voyage, I and four other river rookies were "initiated" by the rest of the group by having our toenails painted up. Ah yes, humiliation by making you have something on you that is associated with the other sex! Hum... you think folks could come up with something new.

Any way, we get our toes painted and the tradition is that you have to take another float before the polish wears off. During the trip we ran into two horseback riding cowboys staying in a nearby lodge. Two of us rookies and a female member were on the trail having just looked at some Indian cliff paintings near our camp. The lead cowboy asked how we were doing, etc. and then asked "say I noticed that the two guys have painted toes and the girl doesn't, this mean anything?" We explained about the tradition and that she was on her third trip, so no polish. The two cowboys both had a chuckle and then the back cowboy asked if we had the polish with us, because the horse he was on was making it's first ride on the river trail and needed something on its hoof!:)

The trip was fantastic, and Jennifer at Home's hometown of Boise was beautiful. We didn't get a chance to meet, maybe next time.

Below are a few photos of the rookies, I'm up first in Purple, and the only GG is the last one. And the nail polish on my toes today? Well, when I returned home, my wife had gone on a trip of her own for the rest of this week. That color was definitely not going to go with what I have on thru Sunday! Its off and my toes are now a lovely pink. Details of the rest of my week later!
And be sure to keep your toes clean on any raft trip you take!

So lucky,
I tried to grab the female wetsuit but wife corrected my mistake, and I've always wanted to do the cowboy thing (wife says she will one day send me to a US ranch on one of those trail rides, where we eat baked beans, stare at the night sky and sing trail songs like a John Wayne movie)

I have never heard that custom before, but I like it. In 2002 I spent 7 days and 6 nights rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. What a wonderful and fantastic experience. Anyway, the night before we hit the river my sister and her friend decided to paint their toenails for the trip I didn't like the color that they were using so I went out and bought a bright purple color. Then in the middle of the trip I got a few other rafters to paint at least one toe on each foot the color purple. It was not easy convincing the others, men and women, to join in the fun. I loved it. Now the funny part of all this is that I hadn't even started crossdressing then. That would come 4 years later. I must have been way ahead of my time and didn't even know it then! Damn, other great opportunities lost to my own ignorance.

But that raft trip sure sounds fun. I guess you were in heaven with painted toes. Even though it was meant as something else.

Heidi,

That red I similar to my normal color. Great story! I haven't been down that river but my scouts have a couple of times. A really great trip, and a couple of tricky spots I understand.

Rachel, I'm now envisioning Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles campfire scene. Beans.

Thanks for the input, ladies! When we got back to the camp, the woman who did the nail work said she barely had enough for us, let alone a horse hoof! There were about 10 rapids that were tricky, Meghan. I gave control of the raft back to my rowing partner who had done it several times. My first trip on the MFSR was mostly scouting a possible future trip. But I did enjoy the company and my purple toes!

Heidi, that sounds like a lot of fun! I've never done white water rafting but spent quite a lot of time in a canoe years ago on several Explorer Scout canoe trips into Canada, always wanted to try white water, maybe some day.

Silly tradition but beautiful country. Nothing like a mix of whitewater and 90 degree heat.

Paddled a kayak down that river several years ago while friends went on big raft and fly fished. They never caught any flies and I did not get a pedi...just soaked.

I did a simular outing but with some friends front Iowa had my toes bright red got lots of loss and some compliments from a few women. It was also a time before I started to CD. You just have to wonder sometimes. All good fun.

What a great thrill to have and nice nails with it, Heidi... :D

Just hope you kept clear of any Kevin Bacon-type characters...

Thanks for sharing the experience for those of us a long way from wilderness... :)

I have that same purple on my toes right now. Lol

Side note. The John Wayne thing made me crack up. Few people knew or know that he also cross-dressed. When he was asked once he said he like to go home after a hard day of acting and throw on a little nighty to relax. Puts a whole new spin on being on the trails, eating beans, and singing under the stars.
