Hi Melissa,

Great song . . . I was wondering if you might post some of the lyrics as they were a bit hard to hear over the acoustics . . . although I did hear some of them :) . . . great guitar playing BTW. It is interesting that you posted this song as it reminded me of an interesting conversation I had a work with one of my staff. I was presenting as a woman and had submitted a policy decision to translation (here in Canada everything has to go out in both official languages English and French). I had not received the translation so my staff member went to query the translator. When he returned he indicated the translator was not comfortable with me as he did not find it normal that I could be a guy one day and a girl another . . . okay I get that. So, I went over to ask him for my translation and he went to French on me and pretended not to speak English (a translator that can't speak both languages . . . seriously :raisedeyebrow:). So I switched to French (hence the Marcelle in my name). I explained that he may not think it is normal but it is normal to me so get over it or he could start looking for a new job. I got my translation in record time.

Thanks for sharing your talent. :)

Cheers

Isha

But of course darling. I'm really glad you like it.

(G)
I hear 'em talking in the magazines
I see it written on the TV screen
(E)
I hear em saying that they've had enough
That they don't ever wanna see this stuff
(G)
All these cameras here to film the scene
They don't mind if you're a beauty queen
(E)
Now they're saying that we've gone too far
But all we wanna be is who we are

(A-F#-E)
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us

(G)
I know they wish that we would fade away
I know they don't care what we think or say
(E)
But the world is turning and they gotta deal
No one can tell us how we gotta feel
(G)
The party's started but they're coming late
Don't read the comments cuz it's all just hate
(E)
They say they wanna hang us from a tree
I won't apologize for being me

(A-F#-E)
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us

(A-B-F#)
If you wanna see a butterfly
you know the caterpillar's gotta die
If you wanna see a butterfly
you know the caterpillar's gotta die
If you wanna be a butterfly
you know the caterpillar's gotta die
I know the haters wanna see me fall
but I got wings baby I can fly

(A-F#-E)
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us

(G)
We don't fit into their politics
And they don't even want us to exist
(E)
I see the writing on the bathroom wall
They wanna know they wanna see it all
(G)
They call us sick and they call us fake
Then they say that it's not really hate
(E)
I guess it's true that we don't understand
There's nothing less than being less than a man

(A-F#-E)
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us
They're only normal cuz there's more of them than us

Thanks, I play for fun, but I also play for people whenever I can.

I'm a songwriter with limited singing ability, so I've always depended on other people to sing my songs, but lately I'm trying to work out the songs so that I can gig them myself with the help of pedals and whatnot.

Thanks ladies. I really appreciate the looks.

It's a hell of a thing when you're writing songs you can't sing. :-)

(yes that's an actual lyric from one of my new ones)

If you can realign your gender, Misty, you can sing your songs. I say this as a person who can neither sing nor write songs, but I respect anyone who puts herself out there.

Here's one of my older ones you guys might like. I'm not singing in this one. :-)

https://youtu.be/AkBVaUdMayU

Remember the secret
Back when it was new
I just had to keep it
What else could I do
That little secret
It seemed so benign
It was nobodies business
No one’s business but mine
And the years tick away
And time passes by
But secrets don’t age
They grow into lies

We forget who we are
We forget who we were
I remembered the scars
But I forgot I was her

It was easy to try
With a lie that’s so small
That it’s barely a lie
Hardly a lie at all
I hated to lie
But what else could I do
It was such a small lie
That I tried to make true
So the secret becomes a lie
And the lie becomes deceit
And deceit becomes a life
That can never be complete

We forget who we are
We forget who we were
I remembered the scars
But I forgot I was her

So I left it behind
So I left it behind
So I left it behind
So I left it behind

And time after time
Another mountain to ascend
There’s no end to the climb
For a man that pretends
And then you can’t take it
And one day you see
That you don’t have to fake it
And you set yourself free
Remember that secret
It’s no longer mine
I just couldn’t keep it
So I left it behind

We forget who we are
We forget who we were
I remembered the scars
But I forgot I was her

A great beat, and all...but I have to confess, being somewhat hearing impaired, I have a hard time making out the lyrics to any rock song. Remember the Beatles song with the lyric, "the Girl with colitis goes by" or the Creedence Classic, "there's a bathroom on the right"?

So, would you post the lyrics before I come up with something equally convoluted?

Leah Lynn

I mentioned on You Tube that you're writing the soundtrack of my life. The only thing missing would be something appropriately titled "I Had A Deathwish".

Hugs,
Leah

It's a hell of a thing when you're writing songs you can't sing.

Go easy on yourself, I've seen a video of one of your guitar solos and the guitar and lyrics are awesome, and your singing isn't bad at at all 😀

This is fun.
Here's another older one about coming out. No video. It was recorded in the singer's living room on an iPhone. Came out pretty good I think.

https://soundcloud.com/misty-cherry/freedom-rudellcherry

Behind bars of my own creation
I sit and pass the time
In a cell of my own making
In a prison of my own design
I sit quietly and wait
And wait, and wait some more
There’s a guard, I see his shadow
And he never leaves the door

This room is not unpleasant
My life is not so bad
I could be happy here
If I could get over being sad
I didn’t choose this life I say
But then I think again
Would I choose to leave this cell
And let my life begin?

What if I go out there
What could be there
What if I go out there
What will I find

Hey man won't you let me
Won't you let me go free
Hey there won't you let me
Won't you let me go free

So I’ve wasted so much time
Just waiting to be set free
And in the dark I finally know
The guard was only me

I remember the first time I read those lyrics here and they still hit home, maybe should have said sweet note, for me. So so true and they really were bars of my own creation. You are awesome.

Great lyrics...especially appreciated the line about them wanting to hang us from a tree. Recalled the Billy Holiday song, "Strange Fruit"

Badtranny

Thanks.

I saw a comment in response about some trans person a couple of months ago that said something like "hang it from a tree". It struck me as being particularly violent and hateful, so when I wrote the "don't read the comments" line, I knew I was going to have to work that in somehow.

Also, "I hear 'em talkin' in the magazines" is a very literal line. I actually heard a couple of dudes talking in the magazine section of a supermarket when Caitlyn's Vanity Fair came out.

I've always loved to write, but I think writing songs is my favorite.

kimdl93

I have always been moved, in a disturbing way, by such imagery. Isn't it funny how word overheard can also make their way into your head?

Totally tangential, but this brings to mind Mark Knoffler...actually overheard some guy griping that "that ain't workin...' The lyrics to Money for Nothin were pretty much what the guy was saying. On a further tangent...it's how my mind works...Gordon Lightfoot got most of the lyrics for "the Edmund Fitzgerald" directly from a Time magazine story.

Badtranny
08-13-2015, 11:25 PM
Yeah, it's funny I always say the songs write themselves. My new Bass player/singer was asking about the weird progression on the low E right before Only Normal gets back into the chorus and I had to tell her I don't know, it's just what the song wanted.

The melody doesn't come from me ya know, the guitar is in charge and I'm just its damn servant. :-)

kimdl93
08-13-2015, 11:38 PM
You must obey the chord progressions...

I date myself with my anecdotes, but I read that when Donald Fagan and Walter Becker wrote Deacon Blues, that the song began with just an idea...if Alabama could be the Crimson Tide...call me Deacon Blues. It just poured out from there...and they knew it was special...

"Sue me if I played it wrong". god I love that line
