View Full Version : If you have a wig and don't mind posting a picture of yourself....

I just bit the bullet and bought my first wig. Of course I imagine that I am going to look just like the model in the picture - HA! So that got me to thinking. Some folks wear wigs and look great, while others wear wigs, and end up looking not so great (basically a guy wearing a wig).

So if you have a photo of yourself in a wig, and have a photo of the model wearing the same wig you bought, did it turn out the way you expected? If you have the cojones, feel free to post both pics for comparison.

I think it might help others to have realistic expectations as to how things sometimes turn out.

Jannelle, The secret to looking good in a wig is the selection for your personal features and the professional shaping for your face. You can't get this buying mail order or from e-bay. As you said, "Will I look like the model"? None of us will look like the model. The models in pictures have had the wig shaped and trimmed especially for them. To look great in a wig, it doesn't have to be the most expensive one, it has to match your color hue, flatter your face shape, and provide for full coverage of your hair. For any girl to want to look great out in public, your hair must look great. Women notice the hair on other women. Early on in my experiences of going out, I was advised by other cd's--Put your money and effort into your hair. They were absolutely correct.

I brought one once, and the hair was so thinly layered, you could see the cap holding it together. It's definately worth investing a little extra if you are trying to pass in public!

Hi. Go get yourself a wig and wear it for yourself not for every one else. we all try to be female in our own way, some succeed, some dont,(just look at my avatar with a wig). Love to you Davina

Actually it appears that my neck isn't long enough to be a proper wig model.

The wig style is Danielle by Aspen #C-301 Colour 27L

_http://www.bmts.com/~dojo/debbie/wigout_2.jpg

It's the first style I ever tried and I have more than one of them.

http://www.bmts.com/~dojo/debbie/wigout_3.jpg

I've always been a fan of big hair and even had my own head of it back in the 70/80's. The colour 27L seems to match my eyebrows, which I think is an important thing to consider when acquiring a wig, so I'm very happy with it.

As for a comparison with the way the wigs are shown in the photos I do notice one big difference. On the models the hair hangs longer. My head is rather large, 7-5/8, so much of the length of the wig is taken up in just covering my top. For that reason the wig is shorter on me than it shows on the model. Something to consider when buying online.

Anyway, my "hair" is very important to me and I think I lucked out when I first bought that style. It was at a boutique that had only 4 styles on hand!

Hairs to you!

I was told that if you pick a dark colour wig it should make you look younger, not sure if this is true. I but this wig here in Vancouver from the suppier for $30.cdn. This is the same one in my photo but mine is a light shade of brown.

Lucky you. I used to have my own, then it started thinning:cry:
So I have to wear a wig, I like this one because I can partially hide my face under the cascading hair which I think is quite alluring

See my Avitar. I have had it for years. My best advice for thos of us that need a wig, is to go to a trans friendly wig store and have one done for you that fits your face and desires. Ordering wigs on line simply does not work, at least for me.

It is all part of the illusion that we try to create.

I think everyone is missing the point of the thread that Janelle is trying to show (except Debbie Kong :)) - without the original wig ad photo, there is nothing to compare your pic with. Here are two of mine...

A couple of good posts! One thing that seems apparent, is you need to get a wig that is a little longer than what the model's have, to get it to look the same (presumably since our heads are larger). The one I went with is a longer one. I actually was looking at a bob style wig, but was talked out of it thank goodness, for that very reason - it would have looked way too small.

Thanks for posting the photos, Dana and Debbie - you both look great! I can't promise I will post my head shot - if I do it will be for the first time!

This is my favorite wig. I got it from crossdresser.com. I may not look as good as the model but it makes me happy.

Heres a few of me in my fave. wig. Its the same in the pic. just in "chestnut brown". Also, I just restyled it a bit more. I think it does an good job. My other wig is a short chin length bob with bangs, I usally reserve that for "special" ocassions!

And trisha anne, I think you look SO much cuter then the model, no lie!!!!!!

Hi all

My wig which I got off ebay Looks better on the wig stand just as it did
on the ebay site. However when I have it on my slightly bigger head, it
appears to dramatically change the shape. But it still works well.

My wife, who fully supports my dressing, hates it when I wear the wig. she says she does not know why, I feel it is because completes the picture and she can not she her S.O

Just a side story. When I Finally received the wig, It looked nothing like the
advertised Item:eek: . I was upset:angry: , the Photo looked so good, was I being ripped off. When I contacted the supplier they assured me it was a mistake  and I had been sent the wrong item I sent back the wrong one and received my purchase shortly after;)

here is mine, but i use my own hair now:)

Aww Lauren, I am so jealous. I f I looked that good, I would be booking my operation tomorrow. (Still have to wait for 2yr RLT)

Charlotte, it's what you like best, of course, but IMHO, you look so much better in the top pic. Color and style seem to "fit" much better, but then what do I know?
