I was just watching the most recent Zatoichi film on Netflix. One of the characters is a geisha who is a boy.

"It is all about the face" he said to a suitor.

"You could be a boy again!"

"I'm fine, thank you"

This is a new part of CDing I was blind to before. <reads>

"Actually, the original geisha were only men" ("http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/02/04/the-secret-world-of-male-geishas.htm"l)

In ancient Japan males would routinely dress as women. Especially in the kabuki as women's roles were portraid. As I understand boys were sought after for sex in the same sex realm as well.

Even later, in W Shakepear's time, it was common that boys played female roles.

I guess I just never 'grew out of" that phase.

I'm more comfortable in a dress than I am in man pants. I guess I'm a geisha if you can accept the antlers and hooves. I'm still pretty.

This will blow a plug , google "visual kei" then hit images . Very common in japan rock scene . Not Geisha in the classical sense .

Males doing frilly cosplay?

No fight here honey, I'm not seeing that as us.

Maybe I misunderstand.

There's some funny (strange) sociological and cultural stuff at play in Japanese society... I find the contradictions fascinating and quite compelling..

Examples (not all CD related, but bear with me... :)):

- A society where senior, respected businessmen are so formal in the relationships with their wives that they only ever refer to them as 'Mrs Xyzagawa', but the same businessmen will spend time with their favoured hostess girls (kyabajo) rather than their wives quite openly, and it is accepted, relatively openly...

- A society where 'the nail that stands out gets hammered down' is a principle of life but which (in Tokyo) tolerates the predominantly male cosplayers of Akihabara who dress quite outrageously, often as very sexualised female manga and anime characters

- A society that on the surface appears so straight-laced but actually supports some weird and wonderful (errr... sometimes ) fetish-stuff below the surface...

- A society that has taxis with lace antimacassars (headrest covers) in the 21st century... :)

There are some curious parallels in world view between Japan and this island nation here, and I'd still love to visit a CD venue in Tokyo some day.... that is so permanent on my bucket list - I'd just be soooo tall there in heels... :heehee:

I love a kimono, so pretty.

Japan is a weird place, even for a kinky person like me. Vending machines with used panties? Really?

The Japanese nationals I have known have been downright 'earthy" on sexual stuff. It is like 'pooping' to them. Everyone does it.
