Most people here know that I ran the Boston Marathon in April and started HRT immediately after finishing. I have struggled to keep running since recovering from an injury to my foot combined with the changing hormone levels in my system. Presently I run 4 miles 2 to 3 times a week at a slow pace.

Yesterday I decided to run the 2016 Boston Marathon. I am qualified as a male with a time of 3:19. But I was confused about how to register since I am legally a female as of last month. I called the Boston Athletic Association and asked how they preferred me to register and if I could run as my actual gender in the 2016 race. They are calling me back to tell me how to proceed.

I am hopeful that I can come back and complete a marathon again. Plus my blood sugar level has gone up since HRT, I am diabetic. I need to get my A1C number down before my SRS surgery in June, I hope! I am waiting for confirmation of my date. I wanted to put is out there as it will help me stay motivated now that I have made it public. I have to start training and I have weight to lose!

Good luck. i get tired walking up the stairs so I really admire anyone who can run a marathon. Especially someone in your situation. I think it is a very good idea to have something non transitioned related to focus on. Transitioning can be all consuming.

As a runner as well and marathon finisher I wish you good luck. I also have just started HRT and was worried about my running but to see you and your struggles or little bumps we will just have to do our best and be happy.

You're awesome! As a runner and marathoner, I would love to run Boston. It's getting down to qualifying, and losing weight and finding the time to run, and...well you know.
Good luck with the run and the HRT.

Sounds like a great goal, Suzanne! I came back from severe illness to run a half marathon 7 months later. You seem to have that personal drive needed to succeed. Good luck!

I too am a runner and I think that could be a complicated situation. From what I've researched myself, most major sporting events would want you to be at least two years on HRT or post op to register as your non birth assigned gender. Also they may not let you register as female with a male qualifying time. They may insist that you run a qualifying race as female first even though your time as male more than makes you qualify as female. I'm just throwing that out there in case the reply you get is not favorable.

Good luck with your blood sugar, Suzanne. And I think you should run the next Boston Marathon, regardless of what group you qualify in. I really admire you.

It is no surprise that you may have some barriers to leap. But I think it is a great goal. If I remember the timing of the marathon right, you are putting surgery immediately after the marathon. I think the training will be a great thing to have you in the best shape which would hopefully translate into a faster recovery.
