I don't know if it's appropriate to discuss this here, so moderators, please forgive me in advance if this isn't allowed. I've been taking a somewhat commonly known (ad's are sometimes on TV) perscription daily for anxiety/depression for quite a while. I've found it lowers my libido a lot (not eliminated by any means), and has reduced my desire to dress. It helps quite a bit with the anxiety and depression. I use to go to counseling once a week, then later once every two weeks. Now, I don't have the need to go at all. I do check in with my psychiatrist once every two to three months to monitor how I am doing with the meds. I am going to see my therapist again very soon, but will probably just see her once a month unless big changes start happening in my life.

In some ways, I miss the desire to dress, and in other ways I don't.

I was put on several antidepressants back when I was married when things were going bad. I have been on 3 different ones none did anything, either to my depression or to the crossdressing. I came to the realization that if there is a good reason to be depressed, as long as you can still think, you're going to be depressed. Western medicine doesn't use or allow any medications that will make anyone happy. Indeed, we spent billions of dollars to find out exactly how much of the active ingredient in marijuana we could use to get the elderly to want to eat, but specifically avoid giving them any of the enjoyment they might get out of it. In effect, we wanted them to eat to stay alive, but we didn't want them to be happy about it. What a miserable bunch of hacks we have running our medical science here in America.

I did years ago so I could get a handle on the feelings but in all honesty, it never affected my dressing per se. :)

Laura,
I found the side effects of a SSRI worse than the problem I was trying to solve so discontinued them, I feel better without them but my wife said if my sleep pattern reverts to how it was I will have to go back on them. She's happy to accept that sleeping in a nightie does help !

The worse side effect was almost mind blowing I wanted to dress but the chemical cocktail felt like a battlefield in my brain !

"In some ways, I miss the desire to dress, and in other ways I don't."

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you miss the desire to dress, isn't that really just a desire to dress?

Many times on this forum, people have lamented the fact that they cannot stop dressing. Perhaps you have stumbled upon the magic "anti dressing" pill.

In any event, if you want to dress and it's not hurting you or anyone else, go ahead and dress. If your medication takes away your desire to dress, don't dress. It's as simple as that.

My first recourse is always the natural remedies. A while back, I was waking up every morning with anxiety, and bad dreams, and tingling all over. And not tingling in a good way. I Googled "anxiety and depression, natural remedies", and a bunch of hits came up. All pointed to a magnesium deficiency. So I got some magnesium, and melatonin, which I take now, and I feel great. No more depression, bad dreams or anxiety!
