View Full Version : So I Was In The Ladies Room When...

My spouse and I were in a restaurant tonight and we went to the ladies room together. It was a two staller.

My spouse finished before me and, as she washed her hands, she said, "Barbara, I'm heading back to the table."

One of Persephone's Rules is "Never speak where you can't be seen." So I kinda softly said, "OK," and she left.

I was washing up when another woman came out of the other stall. Evidently, she'd come in as my spouse was leaving.

I noticed her glancing at me in the mirror so I did a little woman-to-woman smile through the mirror.

A moment later she turned slightly and kinda studied me for a moment. Then she said, "Are you Barbara?"

"Yes," I said, fearing something was going down.

"I am too!" she said, "and I couldn't figure out how that other woman knew my name and why she was telling me she was going back to the table!"

Suddenly we were both laughing. As I finished drying my hands I said, "Nice to meet you, Barbara."

She said, "You too, Barbara."

We both giggled again and left the room.

Maybe the moral is never assume the worst?

Hugs,
Persephone.

Persephone, what a cute story. Having your spouse vouch for you probably made acceptance in the Ladies Room guaranteed.

It reminds me of the stories of people talking on cell phones in the restroom and other people thinking they are talking to them.

Nice story. Good thing your wife did not slip up and use your male name! That would have been interesting.

I don't know why but that story really made me giggle.
I guess I was thinking what that person must have thought when your wife told HER she was going back to the table.

Just funny to me for some reason. Wonder what the expression on her face was? :)

So your fears were unfounded that you might be exchanging a couple of Barbs. Lame, I know. Sorry.

Nice message, Barbara. I used to ALWAY assume the worst out dressed. Suffering the real and imagined slings and arrows from vanillas.

Now, I try to be more in the moment and get into what folks r actually saying and thinking. And, I've been rewarded with some pleasant, informative, even eye opening conversations! Many quite different from what I mite have imagined.:)

Great story!

I try to follow the "no talking when I can't be seen" rule too, but recently it became a bit awkward when I visited the restroom with two GG friends. They only know me as female (yay!) but they kept talking throughout and I had to respond!

(You'd know the restroom Barbara, the one with a Jack Oakie theme.) :)

Thanks for sharing that Barb. After reading all the comments - I am still giggling like a girl at it. How fun.

And Stephanie honey, Barbara doesn't have a male name any more - it was legally changed a few months back. And just thinking of that is making me smile all the more. What an awesome day this is - and I am half way round the world from you all right now!
