View Full Version : Maybe this is how it's done

Hey Ladies,

I've just been reading the thread Traci has started about how it should be done featuring Amanda May's videos. I have watched her videos on youtube before and she is a lot of fun and I admire her courage and her fun spirit, fair play to her, but as some of the girls on the tread said most of us girls want to dress to blend when out.

I have posted a link for Starrynowhere channel on youtube, she is a Scottish girl called Emma and she really does show how it should be done if you want to blend as she blends in no problems. She may overdress as we all do now and then but don't we all!

Check out her channel and see what I mean.

Nothing against Starrynowhere, but comparing the two -- someone out and engaging the public and someone being solitary, I think I prefer the more public persona. She does do a good job of presenting to be ignored if that's what blend means.

Starrynowhere's vids are inspiring. Good recommendation, Michelle.

As for Amanda May, her 'fun sprit' gets to me like fingernails running down a chalkboard.

Starrynowhere's videos are great.

I like what Emma is wearing. The walk is good, except for the exaggerated wrist.

Here's a video of a busy NYC street. It focuses mainly on the traffic although we can see women walking on the sidewalk. No woman walks with her wrist upturned like Emma's.

Also, Emma sat on the bench in an unnatural way as if she was posing for a camera (which she indeed was), but hopefully she would just sit normally if she wasn't videotaping herself. People don't usually lean on their arms when there are backrests nor do they change their poses so often.

Hope you don't mind the comments. I'm just saying what, to me, stands out as behavior motivated by being on camera vs. just acting normally. I agree with the others though, it would be nice if Emma interacted with others by going to restaurants, stores, etc, and stopped being so self-conscious about the way that she moves.

Yes Reine I get what you are saying Emma does over do the wrist thing, as you say. It may be because she is aware of the camera on her, If I was her I'd be constantly worried somebody would notice it and steal it!

It would be great to see her interacting with others, I know in some of her videos she does go out with a few other girls, a couple of her videos are around Glasgow and Manchester with a girl called Rachel who also has her own channel on youtube.

She still does a great job for me of blending in the real world.

Well, I understand if she's self conscious in front of a camera. I'm awful when I know someone is videotaping me. I hate it. lol.

I saw the wrist but just assumed it was a mnemonic device to settle her into her girly-walk. I do a similar thing (not as broad) to help me settle when I'm feeling tense or flustered.

I love her "Rust Never Sleeps" outfit. She looks so cute and natural. It took me a good thirty seconds of staring at her face to clock her in that one. Well done!

I think we should take the positive and negative from these videos. Not many of us get to see ourselves out and about. I'll bet that most of us can visualize ourselves doing some of these things. Learn from what they do wrong as well as what they do right. Some of the things I've done make me cringe to think about.

I like Emma. Her wrist style is okay by me. She looks like a GG who just moved to a big city; natural but not quite at home yet.

I watched the entire video and didn't see how it was possible for her to blend, in a deserted park. I did hear birds chirping in the background, perhaps she was blending in with them.

I admit, her videos are pretty dull, just a woman hanging out at the park...oh, wait a minute...that's the point! Plus one for Emma! 😉

I think both videos r instructive.

Amanda makes no bones about passing. She's confidant and self assured. She may enjoy that everyone notices she's "different" and is treated as such.

Emma is passable. That is what she enjoys, passing. NOT standing out. What we don't see is her reactions when someone makes her. Probably why she ignored the woman near her who seemed to want a conversation. And, why she's filmed going in and out of stores and not any of her conversations with vanillas inside or out!

When I'm dressed out, I wish I could be like Emma. Dress to blend and pass occasionally. But, I can't pass, period.

My second choice would be to be like Amanda. Dress as I like and have fun with vanilla folks. But, I'm too uncomfortable with my looks to ever do that.
Unless I'm out as Sherry. Then, I have fun but most other folks don't!

If I can't sleep, I'll watch Emma.

It's all to with attitude with Amanda. The no holes barred approach really shows confidence and I think she's great if just a little ott. Emma I would prefer to see her more interact on her videos and I find her walk very convincing if her hand / arm positions a little too feminine. An upturned wrist is great in a photograph - any good photographer will tell you for a lady, if you've got a limb that bends then bend it - it really add to the feminine touch. Unfortunately it doesn't always work in general life. Still which I had that look and the confidence.

I'm sure Emma like the rest of us is still learning and honing her presentation.

The videos are fine apart from the observations which have been made here.

Having interaction on a video can present problems. Not everyone will want to be filmed even if its for private use.
