I was out in a black top with a built-in cardigan, with a multi-colored knee-length skirt, black hose, and black flats. I was presenting male otherwise. I felt good about my outfit. I went out to eat at a fast food restaurant. I walked in. There was an older couple at the counter. I waited. The cashier, a young woman, saw me and greeted me and her smile brightened as she actually looked at me and saw my presentation. I have seen women do that, but I don't know if it means anything. After the older couple finished their order, I approached the cash register. The woman took my order and said, "I think you look beautiful, by the way." She was in her early 20's. I think she was somewhat alternative. She had a small tattoo on her wrist and a ring going between her nostrils. Not to wild otherwise. We spoke very briefly after her compliment and then I went to get my drink. While I was working on that, the older woman spoke to me about the weather. She actually tried to drum up a light conversation. I was surprised. I wished her a happy Thanksgiving as she left and she smiled warmly at me and wished me the same. I received my food, ate in the restaurant, and went on my happy way.

I feel good for you. I love hearing stories like yours it makes me lose a little bit of the anxiety for when i go out in the future. I too am "Alternate" i have a lip piercing and I wouldn't mind getting my septum (middle of nose) done too.

I think it means that you have the confidence and looks to pass big time to be complimented. Great feeling

Congratulations, i don't think it means you pass tho, it means your presentation has earned you membership of the lady tribe, an honour in itself above passing imho.

Pamela your comment about being accepted in the lady tribe is a good one - that is much better than passing.

Way to go, Jjjjohane! That must have felt great! I totally agree with Bridget and Pam. My goal is acceptance, more than passing. I'd love to do both, but it's not possible with my build. So I own what I have, and try to present myself in the most authentic, classy, age appropriate way I can. I am happy with the responses I get. It's either a smile or maybe a comment about my shoes from the women, and nothing more than a longish glance from men. The sense of freedom I get is indescribable.

Some have responded speaking of me passing or not. I am a dude in a skirt. Passing is incompatible with what I do.

Here is a post where I included a picture of me in the skirt:

It is great to read stories like this, thanks for sharing.

Earlier this autumn I went out in skirt, heels and a cardigan. As you know I too don’t try to look like a girl and still feels like a man, but I think I have a more feminine style than you. This is the way I prefer it. I went into a gas station to pay for filling up my car. There was this young girl working as a cashier. When I paid she said I looked great and continued to say: “I would have think this would look strange if someone told me about it. But, it actually look surprisingly great on you. Keep on being you.”

I thanked her, and went out walking on clouds
