Because I am going to dinner with friends A couple of days ago I treated myself to a new dress, suitable for day time but more so for evening wear, having gone out en femme and bought it on returning home I realised that the neckline needed a necklace also I was clean out of wine for this evening so I dressed in my new outfit and went to a shopping mall that I had not been to before en femme. I read somewhere of not looking at people but carry on as normal. This time I was at first a bit out of my comfort zone because when I got inside the mall it was heaving with Christmas shoppers, the old nervousness came back a bit but I thought I have got to get over this nervousness somehow so I decided just to walk round casual like but in the general direction of the wine section, what put me at ease fairly soon was how I seamed to blend in and soon it felt like I was at home with my surroundings. I then went through the self check out but had trouble with the machine a man helped me out. no problem.
Next on my list was the necklace so to the second shop, bought what I needed and came home. This outing was the biggest thing I had done so far, previously I had been into shops where they knew me as I am and also before I started to CD so to go to an "alien" place like this was another big leap for me and also for my confidence in going out more en femme. I hope to do more of this!

Always good to read about a good outing. You must be very proud of yourself it takes a lot of courage to go out in public. I know because I sure don't have any.

Hi Bobbi,
Well I suppose if you are going out wine shopping, France is not a bad place to start. :heehee: I applaud your strength of character in going out and just getting on with it.

Hi reb,
Yes Here I am in France just a hop skip and a jump from Bordeaux and no wine! but it was soon sorted, yes a fantastic day for me and when I arrived for dinner in the evening I was told how lovely I looked including a compliment about my legs!. Just the encouragement I needed for the future.
And I hope this episode will help all of you who are worried about venturing out.

Glad to hear you are continuing to venture out Bobbi, and that you eventually got comfortable with new surroundings. It's been awhile since I've been out (too long actually) so I hear what you're saying about getting over the nervousness that's bound to return. Was it easier to find and buy the wine or the necklace?? :heehee:

Karen, it was buying the wine that was the most difficult not because of the choices available but for the fact that it was the first time in a shopping mall amongst lots of people, dressed properly and trying to remain calm and nonchalant in my manner and bearing, the longer I was in the mall the easier it got. buying the necklace was a joy because I knew the SA's quite well by then having been in that shop buying my girlie stuff, also its the most economical shop with good value. As I say the shopping mall was the biggie for me as a first.

Marcelle,
The dinner was great the first time I have been to a vegetarian evening dinner and been complimented on how nice I looked including my legs!

Well done Bobbi! :)
You're doing what you want to and how you want to and clearly enjoying it while building confidence and that is the most important aspect of all this...
Long may you buy wine and jewellery! And other stuff too... :D

Bobbi,
It's so good it worked out for you . One question , I assume you speak fluent French to know what comments were being made ?
I'm finding that getting the small details right does improve the look, like having a lady's watch and next time I have an eye check I will ask what deal can be made on a third pair in a femme style.

Teresa, my French is very limited, I can get the nuts and bolts out of what people say but in this instant I did not see or hear anybody outwardly talking about me as I mentioned only one man seemed to "clock me" which is small potatoes in the whole thing. It makes me think I was blending in quite well.

Bobbi,
I think there is no stopping you, the hurdles should get easier day by day.

Beverly, Yes today was easier, even when I returned to my hamlet and bumped into an old friend who lives in the next village, this was the first time she has seen me dressed completely. We had a lovely chat and I carried on home. She was totally accepting with my feminine looks. This happened back to back to being in my main town again.
Now it almost feels like the most normal thing to go out dressed but I still have a way to go. I still feel slightly nervous but not as bad as it has been.
