My therapist confirmed what I've long thought to be true, even when though there was a long time when I couldn't understand why I felt and thought the way I did: I'm trans.

I've heard every word in the book from my parents...who I sadly still live in the same house as until mid-February. I'm moving to Chicago in February so I'm going utilize Howard Brown to start my transition. I still have to look into hair removal, etc. My parents would rather I not tell people while I would rather be open and honest. I hate living a lie.

My mom thinks trans girls are only into gay guys. And I'm like that couldn't be further from the truth! I repressed and lied to myself for so long that I'm still figuring out my sexual orientation. First thing is figuring out exactly who I am other than a nice, amazing, funny, and smart girl who needed 31 years to realize who she is (as one friend put it).

Family are often the hardest, in many ways they have the most to lose (apart from you of course).

Best wishes, once your parents see you are happy they will come around :)

When you finally decide your own identity, you have made the biggest step. Work with helping your family accept. Don't be in a big hurry to determine your sexual orientation, it doesn't matter that much, and is subject to change. Just dig deep, and become happy, and proud of who you are.

Hi Danielle,

Congrats on a step forward. Just take things slow, become comfortable with who you are and work towards acceptance with your family. It is a long road but one that can be travelled :)

Cheers

My first cousins have been more supportive than my parents.
