My job required me to be outside New York City for a month prior to Christmas. Being away from home, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to dress. I contacted a group called Crossdressers International and was invited to their open house one Wednesday night in Manhattan. I decided to take the train in, so I put my tights on under my jeans and packed the rest of my outfit in a bag. On the train, I was envious of all the cute girls in their skirts, tights, and stylish boots. I wished I had the courage to take the trip into town en femme, and if I were to do it again, I just might. The train stopped at Grand Central Station, which really was amazing, but I was running late, and didn't have time to play tourist. I caught the subway shuttle to Times Square and then began my walk to the venue. Of course, I went the wrong direction at first, and didn't realize it til I noticed that the Avenue numbers were going in the wrong direction. Most of the walk was in the theater district, and felt very safe. I eventually got to my location, buzzed at the door and was let in. Only a few girls were there when I arrived, but they were friendly. I was escorted to a room that had a dressing table with a lighted makeup mirror and given the opportunity to make myself pretty. I rushed a little bit, so it wasn't my best effort, but I thought getting to know the other dressers was more important than looking my best. I left the room and was introduced to the crowd of about 10. They had a very nice space, with three dressing areas, a kitchen, a dining room table, a living area with couches and an HD TV, and a bathroom with shower. It was by far the best space I have seen of any TG group that I have visited. We had some nice conversation over drinks, and then a few of the went to get takeout for dinner. A few more people arrived and roughly twelve of us had delicious fried chicken from a local place, and then adjourned to the TV to watch some videos on how to pose for the camera. After that, things wrapped up and people started to leave. I reluctantly stripped off my Jamie gear, and walked out with two of the members, one who decided to remain en femme. The train ride back was uneventful, and I had a chance to reflect on a wonderful evening. I had a chance to make some new friends, and hope to get back to visit them soon.

Sounds nice. I'll be in Manhattan for New Year's, and the remaining weekend, and If I had a block of time in my schedule that wasn't already filled, I'm sure I'd fill it with hitting the town in my best.

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for sharing about your experience. Glad it was positive. I was going to attend one of the group's meetings in August, but couldn't because of last minuted scheduling changes. I'm moving back to NYC in a few weeks, maybe I'll have a chance once I've gotten settled in. If you're every in NYC again and want to go out dressed with another CD, PM me...

Yes, it might seem funny that I went into Philly dressed but took the trip into NYC in drab. But, going into Philly I was with a fellow dresser who drove us right to the gayborhood (the LGBT section of Philly). This time I was on my own, taking a train, and going somewhere I've never been before. I've always had a bit of a phobia about NYC, so doing it en femme would have just added to my anxiety. I now realize NYC isn't that different from any other city, just bigger.

Check out their website: http://cdinyc.org/ The style is a little dated, but they told me they have plans to bring it into the 21st century.

Do some internet searches. See if there is a Renaissance or Tri Ess chapter near you. Sign up on meetup.com and look for a local transgender group, as a lot of the social gatherings are being advertised that way. Also you might want to try http://www.glbtnearme.org. And of course, unless you live in a remote area, the girls here can probably give you some pointers of where to go.
